New Petrographic And Geochemical Constraints On Pre-Eruptive Storage Conditions And Their Control On Eruptive Styles In Martinique’S Recent Volcanic Systems, Abigail Martens
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation investigates the volcanic systems of Martinique Island, focusing on magma storage conditions, magmatic evolution, and eruption dynamics. Chapter 3 presents a petrographic analysis of volcanic rocks from the island’s old, intermediate, and recent arcs, examining the evolution of plagioclase textures and the increasing abundance of other mineral phases, such as pyroxene, amphibole, olivine, and quartz, which provide insights into changing magmatic conditions. The main research is divided into two projects. Chapter 4 addresses the pre-eruptive storage conditions (pressure and temperature) of magmas beneath recent (<5 Ma) volcanic complexes (Morne Jacob, Piton du Carbet, Trois Îlets, Mt. Conil, and Mt. Pelée), exploring magma evolution, crystallization, and the role of lower crustal injections and flank collapses in triggering eruptions. Results reveal variable magma storage depths (<6 km), with significant temperature and pressure variations, indicating complex magmatic systems. Chapter 5 focuses on the Roches-Genty ignimbrite in southwestern Martinique, investigating its stratigraphy, geochemistry, and age using field mapping, grain size analysis, and 40Ar/39Ar dating. The study identifies two distinct sub-Plinian eruptive phases associated with the Dizac ignimbrite, with ages of 3.37 ± 0.14 Ma and 2.10 ± 0.26 Ma, providing insights into past explosive volcanic activity. Geochemical analysis confirms an andesitic composition, similar to regional volcanic systems. This dissertation enhances understanding of Martinique’s volcanic history, providing valuable insights into magmatic processes and eruption dynamics, with implications for volcanic hazard assessments in the Lesser Antilles.

The Prideful Ass: Using Augustine's Neoplatonic Theory Of Sin To Investigate Curiosity In Apuleius' Golden Ass, Danielle E. Booth
The Prideful Ass: Using Augustine's Neoplatonic Theory Of Sin To Investigate Curiosity In Apuleius' Golden Ass, Danielle E. Booth
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Ancient discourse about the beneficial yet predominantly dangerous role of curiosity inattaining knowledge was prevalent in the Roman Empire around the 2nd century C.E. when the North African author, Apuleius, composed his Latin novel, the Golden Ass. Although there is no shortage of modern scholarship that focuses on how Apuleius dramatizes obsessive intrigue by means of his protagonist, Lucius, contemporary publications seldom reorient the discussion to consider how unclear he is about the unstated source of curiosity, as I do in the following thesis. Approaching this topic through the context of ancient Neoplatonism, I argue Augustine of Hippo – a …

The recent development of Raman spectroscopy as a powerful analytical tool for trace gas analysis owes much to not only advancements in modern optoelectronic tools but also to substantial research in enhancement techniques. Feedback-assisted, non-resonant, multipass cavity Raman spectroscopy stands out among various Raman enhancement methods. We effectively employed this technique to estimate the deuterium/hydrogen ratio in water vapor, to simultaneously identify and quantify multiple analytes, even at extremely low concentrations such as 20 parts-per-billion for methane (CH4), and to detect hydrogen (H2) at concentrations as low as 75 parts-per-billion. This dissertation focuses on the practical application of spontaneous Raman …
Development And Initial Validation Of The Increasing Mathematical Processes Opportunities For Vital Engagement Instrument, Joseph A. Ours
Development And Initial Validation Of The Increasing Mathematical Processes Opportunities For Vital Engagement Instrument, Joseph A. Ours
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Many undergraduate students struggle to learn college level mathematics. This may be because they have not developed their mathematical processes. Mathematical processes are the habits of mind of successful mathematicians and are how one learns and subsequently applies mathematics content. Five categories of mathematical processes are problem solving, reasoning and proof, communication, connections, and representation.
Students need opportunities to develop their mathematical processes. This is the foundation of high quality mathematics instruction. Many instructors, however, lack practical knowledge on how to enact a pedagogy that provides students with opportunities to engage in mathematical processes.
The purpose of this study was …

The results of the DA were used to calculate the probability of a specific topography of attention following a problem behavior P(SR/B) and the unconditional probability of a specific topography of attention in the absence of problem behavior divided by all occurrences of that topography UP(SR-B/SR). …
Distributed Repeaters For Extending The Range Of Harmonic Rf Tags, Trevor Saunders
Distributed Repeaters For Extending The Range Of Harmonic Rf Tags, Trevor Saunders
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Passive harmonic Radio Frequency (RF) tags are highly advantageous compared to theiractive counterparts due to their ability to operate effectively in environments that are cluttered or where access to the tag for battery maintenance is challenging, dangerous and/or time consuming. They are also resistant to the local oscillator (LO) phase noise in radar applications where the doppler frequency from slow moving targets is buried beneath the noise. One of the major constraints of passive harmonic RF tags, however, lies in their operating range and the significant amount of power required to overcome the conversion loss and activate the nonlinear device …

Protracting The Immediate: Time As Form In Contemporary Horror, Kennedy Kelley
Protracting The Immediate: Time As Form In Contemporary Horror, Kennedy Kelley
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This thesis examines the expression and experience of temporality in horror films of the last decade. Whereas early twenty-first century horror was characterized by high-octane jump scares, current horror is marked by contemplative slowness. I argue that the elongated duration of recent horror extends an experience of indeterminate anxiety that attunes us to an expansive relationality, offering a corrective not only to contemporary logics of immediacy, but also to the frequently constricting nature of embodiment as a theoretical concept. Recent horror scholarship tends to center sensuous propinquity in response to a long history of gaze theory’s disembodied passivity. While these …
