Effects Of Night Feeding On Spf (Specific Pathogen Free) White Egg Layers Under Heat Stress, Mesut Fi̇li̇zci̇ler, İ. Hali̇l Çerçi̇, Pinar Tatli

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This experiment was conducted to determine the effects of night feeding benefiting from temperature differences between night and day in SPF (Specific Pathogen Free) white leghorn egg layers under heat stress. For this purpose, 100 SPF hens were randomly assigned to two groups. The control group was fed between 5^{00} and 21^{00} and the treatment group was fed between 17^{00} and 09^{00}. House temperature was averaged at 29.5±0.78°C and 22.9 ± 0.72°C in the control and treatment groups, respectively. The feed and water intake of the hens were 113.60±0.75 g/day and 274.96±2.62 ml/day for the control group, and 120.09±1.77 g/day …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

It was found that the histological features of all native and hybrid sheep skins used in this study were similar to those well documented previously. The total skin thickness was determined to be thickest for Hampshire X Kıvırcık (F_1) (3507.2 \mu), and thinnest for Kıvırcık (2897.8 \mu). It was observed that the stratum corneum of the skin of Kıvırcık and Kıvırcık hybrids was thicker than that of Karacabey Merino and their hybrids. The deposition of lipids was seen on the surface of the epidermis of Karacabey Merino sheep and their hybrids. When compared with the other breed, it was noted …

Mono And Multiphasic Analysis Of Growth Curves Selected Of A Japanese Quail Line At 5-Week's Body Weight, Handan Çamdevi̇ren, Bahar Taşdelen

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this research, monophasic, diphasic and triphasic logistic growth curve functions used to introduce the growing of the body weight in Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica) are presented. In male and female Japanese quail, the diphasic growth curve fits better than the other growth curves because of residual variance, autocorrelation and determination coefficients. In addition, the diphasic growth function is compared with the monophasic growth function to study the relationship between these two approaches for describing growth curves.

For this purpose, TOCs prepared from one-day-old SPF chicks were inoculated with IBV M41 strain in serial dilutions. IBV antigen detected by IP technique in TOCs 18 h postinoculation. IP staining was observed before siliostasis in all dilutions. The IP technique was also applied to detect IBV antigen in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded sections of TOCs inoculated with IBV M41 strain. Viral antigen was also detected in these sections. Histopathological examinations of IBV M41 infected tracheal rings showed loss …

Ultrasonographic Evaluation Of Liver Damage And Obstruction Of The Biliary Tract In Experimentally Bile Duct Ligated Dogs, Remzi̇ Gönül, Yücel Meral, Abdullah Kayar, Utku Bakirel, Mehmet Erman Or, Gülbi̇n Şennazli, Aydin Gürel, Zi̇ya Aslan

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The liver damage and obstructions of the biliary tract were evaluated ultrasonographically in experimentally bile duct ligated dogs. Seven healthy dogs of different breeds were used. The common bile duct was double ligated at the duodenal region after clinical and ultrasonographic examinations. After that, clinical examinations, biochemical analyses and examinations of the liver, gallbladder and biliary tract were done ultrasonographically over 6 weeks. All dogs were necropsied and macroscopic and histologic alterations were determined at the end of the study. It was determined that the levels of serum ALT, ALP, GGT and T. Bilirubin were (p < 0.001-0.05) statistically significantly increased after the operation in all dogs. As a result of ultrasonographic examinations, it was determined that the bile ducts and gallbladder were distended, the neck of the gallbladder was larger and more tortuous than normal, hypoechoic sludge was prominent in the gallbladder, and perivascular, multifocal hyperechoic areas appeared in the liver parenchyma toward the end of the study. These alterations were confirmed macroscopically and microscopically at the end of the autopsy in all dogs. We consider that as well as blood serum parameters, ultrasonographic examinations are useful in the early diagnosis of biliary diseases and in differentiating them from hepatic diseases.
