Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this study, it is aimed to reach detailed information about the anatomy of arteries in the sheep spleen, which can be used as an example and model for the success of planned or emergency surgical interventions related to the spleen. In spleen injuries, the spleen may be divided into two or three parts, or it may be limited to cracks on the spleen. In particular, it is aimed to protect the organs that have been damaged by trauma recently. Operations such as splenectomy and splenography are surgical procedures that require good knowledge of the pathways of artery and its …

Investigation Of Snps In Bmp15 And Gdf9 Genes In "Çepni" And "Of" Sheep In The Black Sea Region Of Turkey, Koray Kirikçi

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Sheep fertility genes have been studied in Turkey for many years. But so far it cannot be said that a satisfactory result has been achieved in terms of the number of detected polymorphisms on fertility genes. Exhibiting the genetic structure of local gene resources adapted to a particular region is very important for sustainability, conservation and breeding studies, and many other issues such as profitability. Therefore, the primary aim of this study was to investigate the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) on the BMP15 and GDF9 genes in two new Turkish sheep breeds, Çepni and Of. DNA sequencing was performed to …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The genus Philophthalmus, Looss 1899 (Echinostoma: Philophthalmidae) is a cosmopolitan group of parasites that infects the eyes of birds and mammals, including humans. A great egret (Ardea alba) was found dead in Kızılırmak Delta, Samsun, Turkey. The bird was transported to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ondokuz Mayıs University, Samsun Turkey, for a necropsy. In the parasitological examination, a trematode was detected in the eye, and then it was identified as Philophthalmus lucipetus. This is the first report of the zoonotic parasite P. lucipetus in Turkey.

Effects Of Feeding In Different Quality Rangelands On Meat Quality And Fatty Acids Composition In Angora Goat Kids And Young Bucks, Betül Zehra Sariçi̇çek

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The effects of feeding in different quality rangelands on meat quality and fatty acids composition in Angora goat kids and bucks were determined. Twenty male Angora goat kids were selected from each farm that produces Angora goats in the area. There are three separate rangelands with previously determined quality classes (good, medium, and low-quality). In each farm, among these animals grazed completely on the rangeland, 7 heads from 4-month-old kids and 7 heads from 7-month-old bucks were selected and slaughtered. The Longissimus thoracis muscle was removed for meat quality measurement. The increased rangeland quality increased the protein content of kid's …

The Effect Of Simvastatin Treatment On Tnf-Alpha-Induced Inflammation In Human Vascular Endothelial Cells (Huvecs), Büşra Görgün, Betül İşi̇ner Kaya, Kübra Kaya, Leyla Di̇dem Kozaci

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study investigates the effects of simvastatin (SMV) on human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) inflamed by tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-a). Cells were treated with simvastatin (5 μM, 10 μM, and 50 μM) with/without TNF (20 ng/mL). The effects of simvastatin on the proliferation of cells were examined, and its cytotoxic effect was determined by lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) assays. Metalloproteinase expression (MMP-2 and MMP-9) levels of SMV at different concentrations were determined by qPCR, and protein levels were determined by Western blot. The increasing concentrations of SMV down-regulated the expression levels of MMPs. After stimulation with TNF-a, the effect of …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In the tomato greenhouse production process, a by-product emerges in the form of greenhouse residues. One of these residues is leaf pruning residue, which poses an environmental pollution problem in terms of waste management. The purpose of this work was to investigate the use of fermented tomato leaves (FTL) as an animal feed additive and its potential to mitigate the environmental pollution problem caused by greenhouse pruning residues. The pruning residues were fermented and their in vitro antioxidant activity (AOA) levels were analyzed using 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS), 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazylhydrate (DPPH), reducing power (RP), and total phenolic content (TPC) assays. Different challenges are being applied in the poultry industry in order to protect animal health and to increase immunity and production. The supplementation of microbial phytase is essential in terms of both reducing the inorganic phytase rate and contributing to the absorption of other minerals. In this study, a newly isolated microbial phytase was added at different concentrations to the diet together with calcium (Ca$^{2+}$) and available phosphorus (AP), and the effects of this supplementation on intestinal absorption capacity and Ca$^{2+}$ binding capacity were investigated via morphological measurements and immunohistochemical examination of the duodenum and ileum. For this purpose, 90 …

Effects Of Probiotic Supplementation For Piglets In A Nursery: A Meta-Analysis Ofcontrolled Randomized Studies, Isabella Cristina De Castro Lippi, Larissa Braganholo Vargas, Fabiana Ribeiro Caldara, Henrique Biasotto Morais, Jean Kaique Valentim, Janaína Palermo Mendes

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The objective of this article was to evaluate the effect of probiotic addition on average daily gain and feed conversion on the final piglet nursery phase. This study used a systematic review by meta-analysis to contrast the effect of piglets supplementation without antibiotics (negative control) and with antibiotics (positive control). These results archived a dichotomy that suggests a need for different statistical treatments to evaluate these outcomes obtained by articles. Because of this, a metaanalysis evaluation is justified to identify the animal performance on probiotic or antibiotic supplementation conditions. The use of probiotics improved the feed conversion in the experiments …
