Influence Of Plasticizer Type On The Structure And Drug Release Characteristics Of Lm-Pectin Hydrogels, Banu Kocaağa, Fatma Seni̇ha Güner
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
This study investigated the effects of different plasticizers—castor oil (CO), polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), and polyethylene glycol (PEG) with varying molecular weights (MWs)—on the structure and drug-release performance of low-methoxyl pectin (LM-pectin) hydrogels. Theophylline was used as a model drug to evaluate release behavior under physiologically relevant conditions. The incorporation of plasticizers modulated polymer–polymer interactions, swelling behavior, and thermal properties, thereby affecting drug-release kinetics. CO, a hydrophobic triglyceride, created microdomain-induced diffusion pathways; PVP, containing water-affinitive lactam units, facilitated moisture-driven plasticization; and PEG (MW 400/1000/1500), with hydroxyl-terminated chains, established hydrogen bonds with pectin. Structural analyses (FTIR and DSC) revealed that CO disrupted pectin …

A multiscale computational investigation integrating density functional theory (DFT) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations was conducted to elucidate the mechanisms through which sulfur-containing donor molecules stabilize the photoactive α-phase of formamidinium lead iodide (FAPbI3) perovskites. The binding energetics, charge-transfer behavior, and hydrogen-bonding interactions of thiourea (TU), thiosemicarbazide (TSC), thiocyanate (SCN–), and diethyldithiocarbamate (DTC) were systematically analyzed. DFT results revealed pronounced Pb–S coordination and multidentate hydrogenbonding, with binding energies following the trend SCN–>TSC>DTC>TU. Thermodynamic analysis demonstrated that these additives lower the Gibbs free energy difference, thereby stabilizing the black α-phase, with TSC, TU, and to a lesser extent …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry
This study highlights the potential of organometallic carbonyl complexes as selective markers for biomolecules, enabling sensitive infrared (IR) detection. The regio- and stereoselective coupling of N-acetylhistamine, a histidine analogue, with the precursor complex 1 [Fe(CO)₃(1,4-η⁵-N-pyridiniocyclohexa-1,3-diene)] BF₄ affords the labeled complex 3 [Fe(CO)₃(1,4-η⁵-N-acetylhistaminocyclohexa-1,3-diene)]. X-ray diffraction (XRD) confirms the exo stereochemistry and reveals a rigid, well-defined architecture. IR and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopic studies combined with IR-monitored acid–base titration demonstrate the complex’s stability in aqueous media between pH 5 and 8, alongside a modest increase in basicity relative to the free ligand. These findings establish the Fe(CO)₃ moiety as a robust …

Since PI3Ks are targeted by a variety of bacterial pathogens, they represent a promising target for host-directed immune therapy and may be beneficial in managing persistent bacterial infections. In the present study, computational studies of 5-(pyridin-4-yl)-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-amine derivatives for phosphoinositide-3-kinases (PI3Ks) inhibitors were carried out using dock scores, Glide scores, and the MMGBSA dG method, with comparison to standard drugs (ofloxacin and fluconazole). A series of 5-(pyridin-4-yl)-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-amine derivatives (D1-D17) were synthesized and evaluated for their in vitro antimicrobial activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial strains, as well as fungal strains, using the tube dilution method. The synthesized compounds were characterized …

This study presents an original, effective, and environmentally friendly method for synthesizing pure molybdenum carbide (Mo2C) from ammonium molybdate tetrahydrate (AMT) without generating carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas. The process involves the sequential transformation of AMT to Mo2C, which follows the reaction pathway of (NH4)6Mo7O24→MoO3→MoO2→Mo→Mo2C. This transformation is achieved by strategically altering the gas atmosphere, switching from Ar to H2 at 800 K and then from H2 to CH4 at 1000 K. Thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques were used to characterize AMT and the products. Mass measurements were used to follow the conversion of …
