Effect Of Promoter Type And Synthesis Method On Catalytic Performance Of Fe-Mn Based Ft-Olefin Catalysts, Gamze Gümüşlü Gür, Özge Ati̇k
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Direct production of light olefins, building blocks of chemical industry, can be attained by developing efficient catalysts for Fischer?Tropsch synthesis (FTS). The nature of FTS complicates the catalyst development process as the product distribution is affected by the components and the preparation methods of the catalyst. In this work, high-throughput (HT) methodology is employed to overcome this problem by testing many different catalyst formulations. Fast performance screening of 40 different α-Al2O3 supported Fe-Mn based catalysts promoted with Cu, K and Ni, using different impregnation agents, was performed in a HT test system at atmospheric pressure. Promising catalyst candidates identified by …

A Theoretical Study Of Co Adsorption On Cu(211) Surface With Coverage Effects, Murat Oluş Özbek
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
CO adsorption on the Cu(211) surface was investigated using energy, geometry and vibrational data, which were produced through periodic DFT computations. Adsorption on the (111) terrace, as well as the previously reported top and bridge sites of the step-edges, was studied at 0.25, 0.33, 0.50, 0.66, 0.75, and 1.00 monolayer (ML) CO coverage. Results showed that up to and including 0.50 ML, on-top or bridge adsorption is preferred on the step-edges. When 0.50 ML is exceeded, top-bridge alternating patterns become feasible on the step edges along with possible shifts towards the terrace. Several feasible patterns were identified at 0.66, 0.75, …

Synthesis Of Titanium Dioxide Nanoparticles With Renewable Resources And Their Applications: Review, Umut Şafak Öztürk, Ali̇me Çitak
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Metal-oxide nanoparticles have reached a wide range of applications in the last ten years. Titanium dioxide nanoparticles stand out with their unique crystal structure and near-perfect physical and chemical properties at nanoscales (crystal size between 10-100 nm). It has created many applications with its white pigment, semiconductor state, and effective photocatalytic properties, but the synthesis of these nanoparticles is very damaging to nature. Titanium dioxide nanoparticles, which can be synthesized with toxic solvents or high-energy machines, have started to be synthesized by the green synthesis method, which has been a cheap and easy method in recent years. The application areas …

COVID-19 disease caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) has struck the whole world and raised severe health, economic, and social problems. Many scientists struggled to find a vaccine or an antiviral drug. Eventually, both vaccines and recommended drugs, repurposed drugs, or drug combinations were found, but new strains of SARS-CoV-2 continue to threaten human life and health. As part of the fight against COVID-19 disease, this study involves an in silico molecular docking analysis on the main protease (Mpro) of SARS-CoV-2. To this aim, a Schiff base compound was synthesized and characterized using spectroscopic techniques, including X-ray, …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry
In this work, the kinetic electrochemical degradation of Cartap (CT) (in Padan 95 SP) at boron-doped diamond (BDD) electrode was investigated. This study indicated that the degradation of CT underwent both direct and indirect oxidations. Water matrices can either accelerate or inhibit the removal efficiency of CT: adding 15 mM Cl- improved kCT from 0.039 min-1 to 0.054 min-1 (increased by 38%), while kCT decreased by 61.5% and 64% when increasing the concentration of HCO3- and humic acid (HA) to 15 mM and 15 mg L-1, respectively. CT degradation was inhibited …

Although poly-vinyl alcohol (PVA) has certain mechanical drawbacks such as a weak barrier, it has widely been used in food packaging over the last many years. To increase the suitability of PVA (C2H4O)n and render it ideal for food packaging, a diversity of studies have already been carried out. In the below-mentioned script, we, for the first time, report the use of natural product osthol in making a new composite with PVA for enhancing thermal, physicochemical, and antimicrobial properties. The significant aim of the report is the insertion of osthol (C15H16O3 …

Effects Of Hydrogen Peroxide, Temperature And Treatment Time On Degradation Propertiesof Polyethersulfone Ultrafiltration Membrane, Yasi̇n Özay, Erdal Yabalak, Nadi̇r Di̇zge
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Oxidative cleaning agents such as hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) used in water and wastewater treatment play an important role in the degradation and rapid aging of the polymeric membranes. In addition, when the temperature is above the maximum operating range of the membrane, it negatively affects the membrane performance. H2O2, which is also known as a green and environmentally friendly strong oxidant because of releasing only water as a by-product, can provide good cleaning efficiency under temperature, but its influence on membrane aging is not fully understood. In this study, the aging of polyethersulfone (PES) ultrafiltration (UF) …

Different derivatives of imatinib were synthesized by a 3-step reaction method. The structures of the new compounds were characterized by spectroscopic methods. For quantitative evaluation of the biological activity of the compounds, MTT assays were performed, where four BCR-ABL negative leukemic cell lines (Jurkat, Reh, Nalm-6 and Molt-4), one BCR-ABL positive cell line (K562), and one non-leukemic cell line (Hek293T) were incubated with various concentrations of the derivatives. Although imatinib was specifically designed for the BCR-ABL protein, our results showed that it was also effective on BCR-ABL negative cell lines except for Reh cell line. Compound 9 showed lowest IC50 …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Coated paper sheets were prepared by immobilizing a thin coating layer of cross-linked polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and inorganic particles onto Whatman filter paper Grade 1 (WFP) substrates. Several coatings that differed in terms of their PDMS molecular masses were sprayed onto WFP substrates to investigate the effect of this variation on the (i) wettability and (ii) mechanical properties of the samples. Different samples having clay or silica particles in the coating formulation were investigated separately. Nonwettable coated paper sheets with promising mechanical properties were achieved and further investigated in terms of (iii) thermal resistance.

Although OD at 560 nm and chlorophyll-a content were decreased in Arthrospira platensis during 7 days depending on dose and time, increases in both OD at 750 and chlorophyll-a content at 8 ppb (parts per billion) concentration on the 7th day were observed in Chlorella vulgaris. However, total SOD (superoxide dismutase) and GR (glutathione reductase) enzyme activity of A. platensis cultures did …

The study reports preparation, characterization, and catalytic activity of Pd0/WO3 nanoparticles in H2 evolution from dimethylamine borane (DMAB). The active catalyst called Pd0/WO3 NPs were obtained from the in situ reduction of Pd2+/WO3 precatalyst and tested in H2 releasing from DMAB. Pd0/WO3 NPs were found as remarkable catalysts providing a turnover frequency value of 948.0 h-1 in H2 releasing from DMAB at 60.0 ± 0.5 °C. The results of some advanced analytical techniques reveal that Pd0 NPs show uniform dispersion on the surface of tungsten(VI) oxide (WO3) with 5.85 ± 0.57 nm of particle size. The reducible nature of tungsten(VI) …
