Separation of natural hydrocarbon minerals into their constituents non-destructively is a very difficult problem. A non-destructive analysis of the hydrocarbon minerals is essential to their wise utilization. Chromatography represents a non-destructive means of separating adsorbable substances non-destructively with a high degree of purity. The chromatographic separation is based upon the simple principle of the difference in adsorption affinity of compounds for a particular adsorbent. The chromatographic separation of gilsonite was, therefore, undertaken in an effort to prove that the adsorbable compounds of this hydrocarbon mineral could be separated by this simple non-destructive method. The lack of a convenient method for the synthesis of m-alkylphenols has long been recognized by organic chemists. Within recent years the study of the physiological properties of these compounds and their derivatives, particularly the curare analogues, has caused much more concern to be placed upon a satisfactory method of synthesis. The problem of their synthesis offered an interesting study in synthetic organic chemistry. Both groupd, the alkyl group and the hydroxyl group of a meta-alkylated phenol, direct to the ortho and para positions. A Preliminary Study Of The Siphonapterous Ectoparasites Found On The Mammals Of The Families Cricetidae And Muridae In Utah County, Vernon J. Tipton

The purpose of this study was to determine the species of fleas infesting the mammals of the families Cricetidae and Muridae in Utah County. This was accomplished by establishing twelve collecting stations throughout the county from which 198 mammals were collected. From these hosts, 392 fleas were collected representing three families, nineteen genera , and twenty-four species. Four species are new to the State of Utah and twenty-two species are recorded from Utah County for the first time.

This paper will be confined to the northern portion of the range though it might be noted that the topographical descriptions of the Bingham district apply in a general way to the southern district also. The northern Oquirrhs contain a number of sizeable canyons running either east or west from a central ridge seven thousand to eight thousand feet in altitude. Bingham Canyon, one of the largest of these, is located on the eastern slope of the range and drains into Salt Lake Valley.

Mormon periodical fiction has had a slow and painstaking development. Not much fiction of worth was produced prior to 1900, but by 1900 the antecedents of a future "mature" fiction were established.
The fiction of the years following those initial developments of fiction is largely, as yet, unexplored and unevaluated. It is my purpose in this study to map out the broad areas of this fiction and attempt to measure its literary value.

Although many compounds have been prepared which contain the heterocyclic nucleus known as the quinoxaline nucleus, very little fundamental experimentation has been reported by way of expanding the chemistry of quinoxaline beyond the basic condensation reaction and its valuable use as a means of characterization, for example, the reaction of vicinal diketones with o-phenylenediamine. Also, no know effort has been made to assemble the chemistry of the quinoxalines into one paper for ready reference. Additional interest is concerned with the chemotherapeutic value of basically substituted quinoxalines^1; however, this aspect of the problem will not be discussed. The chemistry of quinoxaline …
