Quaternary Geology Of Rolette County, North Dakota, Dwight E. Deal Jan 1970

Quaternary Geology Of Rolette County, North Dakota, Dwight E. Deal

Theses and Dissertations

Rolette County contains approximately 942 square miles in north central North Dakota (Tps. 159-164 N., Rs. 69-73 W.) adjacent to the Canadian border. It includes the southeastern part of the Turtle Mountains and part of the glacial Lake Souris basin. Basic lithologies recognized in the surface sediments were bedded clay, silt, sand, and gravel; and three types of non-bedded diamicton. These were combined and, with bedding characteristics and organic content, formed 15 practical field mapping units. Geologically significant scarps and hill slopes were also mapped. The data collected is shown at a scale of 1 inch to 2 miles. The …

Groundwater Flow In Part Of The Little Missouri River Basin, North Dakota, Thomas M. Hamilton Jan 1970

Groundwater Flow In Part Of The Little Missouri River Basin, North Dakota, Thomas M. Hamilton

Theses and Dissertations

The Little Missouri valley in western North Dakota is deeply incised into slightly permeable Mesozoic and Cenozoic sediments. An evaluation of the groundwater flow in part of this valley was 'based on the present groundwater flow-system models. Abrupt changes in the hydrochemical facies have been explained relative to a continuous flow system.

The Little Missouri valley ls the discharge area of a regional groundwater flow system; it affects the potential distribution of the flow system for a minimum of 1.000 feet below the valley floor. The discharge area is approximately the same width as the valley floor and has a …

Comparison Of Three Training Methods For Middle And Long Distance Runners, John A. Mitchell Jan 1970

Comparison Of Three Training Methods For Middle And Long Distance Runners, John A. Mitchell

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to determine whether a training program could be found which would enable middle and long distance runners to improve their performances in a short period of time.

Three groups (Fartlek, Interval, and American) of six subjects each were equated with the matched pairs technique. The groups were tested in the spring of 1969 after twelve days of training. The test used in this study was the 880 yard run. The runners participated in a six week conditioning and training period before the retest was administered.

Between group comparisons were made using the mean differences …

Punishment Correlations In A Multiple Schedule, John O. Kling Jan 1970

Punishment Correlations In A Multiple Schedule, John O. Kling

Theses and Dissertations

Research indicates that punishment sometimes has discriminative as well as suppressive properties. The discriminative property of punishment usually has been exhibited by correlating punishment, with positive reinforcement, then testing for facilitative effects of punishment on responding in the absence of positive reinforcement. In the present study, punishment was correlated with one or the other of the two components of a multiple fixed-ratio schedule after the discrimination based on differential frequency of reinforcement had been formed. The correlation of punishment x^ith the components we.s reversed with the expectation that reversal of the correlations would reveal appropriate changes in responding in the …

Stabilization Of Soil By Use Of Expansive Cement, Ebrahim Shirazi Jan 1970

Stabilization Of Soil By Use Of Expansive Cement, Ebrahim Shirazi

Theses and Dissertations

Hydration of the cement paste resulting in the formation of shrinkage cracks in soil-cement stabilized bases is one of the major problems when cement is used with certain soils. A new approach to control these shrinkage cracks is the use of expansive cement instead of regular portland cement. In this study the writer attempts to gain an insight into the effect of expansive cement on strength and durability of the soil-cement and examine whether it is advantageous to substitute expansive cement for regular portland cement.

A silty soil typical of materials found in the Red River Valley, North Dakota, was …
