The Effects Of Temperatures And Chemicals On The Oocysts Of Eimeria Stiedae, Charles Larry Keehner
Theses and Dissertations
A study was made of the effects of temperatures and chemicals on the unsporulated and sporulated oocysts of Eimeria stiedae. In general, oocysts were affected by temperatures lower than -10 C and above +39 C, while normal development occurred between these temperatures. Unsporulated oocysts were more tolerant to temperature extremes, as they survived up to 8 days at 39 C and 12 days at -28 C. Sporulated oocysts were killed after 24 hours storage at 39 C and 4 days at -28 C. Oocyst resistance to low temperatures was not improved if unsporulated and sporulated oocysts were conditioned before and …

A Comparison Of Secretaries' And Feminists' Attitudes Toward Traditional And Non-Traditional Female Roles, Susan Higgins
Theses and Dissertations
This investigation was designed to study current attitudes of women to female roles. An adapted form of the Maferr Inventory of Feminine Values was given to 23 full-time secretaries and 19 feminist women. The inventory consisted of traditional and non-traditional items, and general statements and specific examples, which were rated in appropriateness separately for women and men. Two predictions were made about the subjects' responses: (1) The secretaries would make a greater differentiation between male and female roles, by judging traditional female statements more appropriate for women than men, and non-traditional female role descriptions more appropriate for men than women. …
Analysis Of An Orthogonal Grid Composed Of Straight And Circular Members, Te-Hsiung Lu
Analysis Of An Orthogonal Grid Composed Of Straight And Circular Members, Te-Hsiung Lu
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis has been written for the purpose of using the stiffness method to analyze an orthogonal grid composed of straight and circular members that is loaded perpendicular to the plane of grid. In the development of theory, each member is assumed to carry bending, torsion and shearing force, and the axial force is neglected.
It is much more complicated to derive the stiffness matrix for a circular member than that for a straight member. The stiffness matrix for a circular member is derived by using the strain energy and Castigliano's theorem while the stiffness matrix for a straight member …
Multiple Unit Correlates Of Discrimination Learning In Rats, Lynn C. Conrad
Multiple Unit Correlates Of Discrimination Learning In Rats, Lynn C. Conrad
Theses and Dissertations
Multiple unit recording is a relatively new electrophysiological recording technique which records spike potentials from many neurons. In several laboratories, systematic changes have been observed during classical and instrumental conditioning but none under other conditioning procedures. The present study attempts to extend the method of multiple unit recording to discrimination learning using rats as experimental animals.
Five permanent electrodes were implanted in each of six rats. The sites implanted were the dorsal medial hypothalamus, the amygdaloid complex, the reticular formation, the medial geniculate, and the inferior colliculus. The animals were subjected to discrimination training which utilized tone as the auditory …

Selected Songs Of Frederick Delius, Katherine Lucille Lee
Selected Songs Of Frederick Delius, Katherine Lucille Lee
Theses and Dissertations
Frederick Delius (1862-1934) began his career as a composer of songs and continued writing them at intervals throughout his life. Generally, he concentrated on one language at a time, setting Norwegian, French, Danish, German, and English poems. This study has shown that a relationship exists between the events of Delius’s life and his use of a particular language for his song text3.
The nine songs chosen to be analyzed are representative of the various language groups. Through analysis of form, harmonic relationships, cadences, key centers, accompaniment texture, melody, and mood the songs were divided into two general groups. Comparisons were …

Histological Changes In The Rat's Spleen Induced By Selected Anesthetic Agents, Donald R. Fowler
Histological Changes In The Rat's Spleen Induced By Selected Anesthetic Agents, Donald R. Fowler
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to determine what histological parameters of the rat's spleen were altered as a result of the anesthetic agent used. It also was desired to determine which anesthetic agent might be the most suitable to use in a transillumination study of the microcirculation of the living rat's spleen.
It was found that sodium Amytal administered intraperitoneally results in splenic dilatation. Chloral hydrate and sodium thiopental, given intraperitoneally, resulted in splenic contraction. Penthrane, ether, and chloroform administered by inhalation technique also resulted in splenic contraction. Penthrane and chloral hydrate while producing splenic contraction appear to do …
A Comparison Of The Self-Concepts Of Institutionalized Delinquents, Non-Institutionalized Delinquents, And Non-Delinquents, Franklin D. Deforest
A Comparison Of The Self-Concepts Of Institutionalized Delinquents, Non-Institutionalized Delinquents, And Non-Delinquents, Franklin D. Deforest
Theses and Dissertations
On the basis of previous theorizing and empirical research, it seems that the self-concept may be a highly relevant factor in the understanding and containment of delinquent behavior. However, as Rubin (1970) has noted, there remains some doubt as to the effectiveness of existing treatment programs in promoting a change in the delinquent's self-concept structure which will be lasting and lead to a more adaptive response to the normal social environment. Therefore the present investigation proposes to show that there exist fundamental differences between the self-concepts of delinquents, both institutionalized and non-institutionalized, and non-delinquents. These differences can then be assumed …
Adolescent 4-8 Mmpi Profiles: Prediction From A Taxonomic Class, Douglas L. Hippe
Adolescent 4-8 Mmpi Profiles: Prediction From A Taxonomic Class, Douglas L. Hippe
Theses and Dissertations
Throughout the past two decades of MMPI research minimal effort has been directed toward adolescent populations. Notable exceptions to this have been the pioneering works of Hathaway and Monachesi (1951, 1953, 1957, 1960, 1963), and the later prediction studies concerning subtypes of delinquents, emotionally disturbed adolescents and most recently, drug abusers. Characteristic of all this research was a focus on the study or demonstration of the MMPI itself and its ability to differentiate personality types that the test does in fact identify. The most frequently occurring profile type uncovered by these studies appears to have been the 4-8 configuration. Some …

Large School, Small School: The Relationship Between A College Student's High School Size And His Non Class College Activities, John A. Call
Large School, Small School: The Relationship Between A College Student's High School Size And His Non Class College Activities, John A. Call
Theses and Dissertations
Past research indicates that the number of students in a high school is related to the students' behaviors and subjective experiences. Students of small schools, vis-a-vis students of large schools (1) enter more different kinds of activities, (2) hold more responsible positions, and (3) experience more satisfactions in connection with their nonclass activities. Thus, the question was raised whether or not this higher rate of high school nonacademic achievement among students from small high schools had any more or less permanent effects on the student's college nonclass activities.
The Non Class College Setting (NCCS) Questionnaire was devised and administered to …
