A Comparison Of Homosexuals' And Heterosexuals' Love And Friend Relationships, Nanette M. Gorman
A Comparison Of Homosexuals' And Heterosexuals' Love And Friend Relationships, Nanette M. Gorman
Theses and Dissertations
The present investigation employed Wright's self-referent model of relationships in the examination of homosexual relationships. It was hypothesized that the voluntary interdependence and person-qua-person scales would be higher for female homosexuals than for female heterosexuals. For both male and female homosexual relationships, it was hypothesized that ego support value, self-affirmation value, security value, and maintenance difficulty would be higher for homosexuals, with maintenance difficulty being higher for male homosexual love relationships than lesbian love relationships. In terms of love relationships, it was expected that homosexual males would provide lower scores than homosexual females for exclusivity and emotional salience.

A Comparative Study Of Successful Female And Male Educational Administrators, Loretta M. Delong
Theses and Dissertations
Women who seek careers in educational administration find that, in practice, equality of the sexes is an illusion. There is an apparent need to better understand the variables which have had an impact on the success of female educational administrators in comparison to male educational administrators. As a result, this study was undertaken for the purpose of examining what the differences and similarities are between female and male educational administrators. A questionnaire was constructed and administered to 200 administrators deemed to be successful by the Executive Educator. The data obtained from the questionnaire were analyzed utilizing the t-test and Chi …

A Critical Edition Of Paolo Virchi's Il Primo Libro Di Tabolatura Di Citthara (1574), William E. May
Theses and Dissertations
Paolo Virchi's II primo libro di tabolatura di citthara di ricercati, madrigali, canzoni, napolitane et saltarelli (Venice: Girolamo Scotto, 157414) is typical of many tablatures written for lute and cittern during the sixteenth century. It consists of fantasias, intabulations of madrigals, solo songs for tenor and cittern, and dance music. This thesis presents a complete transcription and analysis of the collection, the only surviving copy of which is preserved in the Osterreichische Nationalbibliothek, Vienna. The edition was made from a microfilm copy obtained from this library.
Virchi's music demonstrates his command of four divergent styles prevalent in the sixteenth century. …

Human Resource Accounting: Putting A Price On People, Michael P. Maciver
Human Resource Accounting: Putting A Price On People, Michael P. Maciver
Theses and Dissertations
Since its' introduction in the early 1960s, the idea of Human Resources Accounting has, for the most part, been resisted, rejected, and left the perish in the pages of business periodicals. Exactly why such a well-intentioned program has been met with such disdain is uncertain.
This study proceeds with a discussion of the topic of Human Resources Accounting, outlining two main tasks which proponents of the idea have had to accomplish thus far: winning acceptance of the idea of the human resources as a capitalizable asset and deciding upon what basis the value of the human asset will be quantified. …

An Analysis Of The Comic Elements In A Production Of Joe Orton's Entertaining Mr. Sloane, Mary Beth J. Barder
Theses and Dissertations
This analysis addresses the classification of a production of Joe Orton's play Entertaining Mr. Sloane as a comedy. Its intent is to question the classification by considering several factors.
The thesis begins with an introduction, contained in Chapter I. Chapter II applies several concepts of comic theory as conceived by Susanne K. Langer, to the play. The third chapter offers the background of the playwright and the play's past reception by theatre critics. Chapter IV deals with the directing of a production of Entertaining Mr. Sloane, presented at the University of North Dakota in November, 1985. It includes a pre-production …
The Effect Of Histamine On Lanthanum (La3+) Binding In The Isolated Rabbit Heart In The Presence Of Verapamil, Scott A. Barman
The Effect Of Histamine On Lanthanum (La3+) Binding In The Isolated Rabbit Heart In The Presence Of Verapamil, Scott A. Barman
Theses and Dissertations
Two of the major effects of histamine in the rabbit heart are the enhancement of contractility and microvascular permeability. In cardiac muscle it has been documented that calcium (Ca ) bound to the sarcolem- mal-glycocalyx complex is essential for the regulation of the contractile response. In addition, it has been postulated that histamine's regulation of microvascular permeability may occur via an endothelial contractile response causing the formation of submicroscopic gaps between endothelial cells. It was postulated that these effects of histamine may in- O . volve an alteration of Ca r binding to the plasma membranes of these tissues. In …

Aspects Of Stifter's Concept Of The Sanftes Gesetz As Displayed I N Nature And Man In The Bunte Steine Stories, Elaine M. Porter
Theses and Dissertations
Adalbert Stifter believed in a natural law which he called the sanftes Gesetz (gentle law) as the sustaining power for both mankind and nature. He sees the sanftes Gesetz at work in the powers which he deems gross (great): those gentle laws which govern the world order. His foreword to the Bunte Steine is a summary of these beliefs. Although he did not write the foreword specifically to discuss the Bunte Steine stories, these thoughts are evident in the six stories of the collection. An examination of the workings of the sanftes Gesetz in nature and in man can therefore …

Four hundred twenty-eight completed questionnaires were obtained from students in grades seven through nine from Central Junior High School in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. Social Control Theory {attachment element) was examined as a viable predictor of differences in the relationship between elements of the bond, athletic participation, self-concept, and juvenile delinquency.
This study focuses on juvenile delinquency as it relates to the …
Hedging Interest Rate Risk With Financial Futures, Jerry M. Stai
Hedging Interest Rate Risk With Financial Futures, Jerry M. Stai
Theses and Dissertations
In the period of volatile interest rates since 1979, many businesses have sought to lower their exposure to interest-rate risk, which is the probability that profits and values will be adversely affected by changes in market interest rates. The thrift industry has particularly been damaged by interest-rate risk. By borrowing short-term and lending long-term, liabilities repriced or matured faster than assets, which cause a classical earnings squeeze. The Federal Home Loan Bank, the regulatory agency for the thrifts, has set into law regulations authorizing individual thrifts to utilize financial futures as a tool to reduce interest-rate risk. The central issue …
