Enthalpies Of Solution Of Co2 In Aqueous Methyldiethanolamine Solutions, Keith E. Merkley Jan 1987

Enthalpies Of Solution Of Co2 In Aqueous Methyldiethanolamine Solutions, Keith E. Merkley

Theses and Dissertations

The enthalpies of solution, HS, of carbon dioxide in aqueous methyldiethanolamine were measured with an isothermal flow calorimeter over wide ranges of temperature, pressure, weight percent MDEA, and loading (gmole CO2/gmole MDEA). The values of HS (kJ/gmole CO2) were found to be constant up to the saturation concentration of CO2 in the aqueous solution. In addition, experimental data showed that HS was independent of the total pressure over the solution, but linearly dependent upon both temperature and weight percent MDEA as was given by a correlation. A computer program based upon …

Seventh-Grade Student Achievement In Length, Perimeter, Area And Volume, Cathy Pierce Jan 1987

Seventh-Grade Student Achievement In Length, Perimeter, Area And Volume, Cathy Pierce

Theses and Dissertations

This study was designed to measure seventh-grade achievement in finding length, perimeter, area and volume when four different presentations of the problem were given: standard textbook problems, word problems, students measuring, and problems labeled differently than the standard textbook problems. Each of the 235 subjects took one of four different measurement skills testes developed by the researcher. Results indicate student achievement decreases as the complexity of the attribute increases. Overall, students found standard textbook problems the easiest to solve, followed by word problems, and students measuring, respectively. Problems labeled differently than the standard textbook problem were the most difficult for …

Attitudes Of Secondary Special Education Teachers Toward Using The Computer As An Instructional Aid, Mary Nell Nail Jan 1987

Attitudes Of Secondary Special Education Teachers Toward Using The Computer As An Instructional Aid, Mary Nell Nail

Theses and Dissertations

This descriptive study was conducted to determine the attitudes of special education teachers toward using the computer as an instructional aid. The subjects were 78 secondary special education teachers from a southern metropolitan school district of approxіmately 30,000 students. The data-gathering instrument used for the study was a 20-item questionnaire devised by the researcher which employed the Likert scale to register the extent of agreement or disagreement with particular opinion statements.

The results, subdivided according to secondary school areas in which the teachers worked, years of teaching experience, areas of exceptionality, and subject matter areas, indicated that teachers in all …

A Model Literature Curriculum Guide For The Secondary Learning Disabled Student, Peggy G. White Jan 1987

A Model Literature Curriculum Guide For The Secondary Learning Disabled Student, Peggy G. White

Theses and Dissertations

This Literature Curriculum Guide has been prepared for Learning Disabled Students enrolled in special English classes at Hardaway High School in Columbus, Georgia. It was motivated by the observation that curricular materials for secondary Learning Disabled pupils were limited to content in grammar and other aspects of written language. Literature as content for these pupils had been completely overlooked.

Secondary English instruction, when using grammar only as content, is restricted to productive aspects of English. This restriction would necessarily deprive the Learning Disabled pupil of experiences with the heritage of literature shared and enjoyed by their peers. And, Learning Disabled …

An Evaluation Of The Effectiveness Of A Substance Abuse Awareness And Prevention Program Developed For Use With University-Level Varsity Student-Athletes, Robert Joseph Marcello Jan 1987

An Evaluation Of The Effectiveness Of A Substance Abuse Awareness And Prevention Program Developed For Use With University-Level Varsity Student-Athletes, Robert Joseph Marcello

Theses and Dissertations

Substance abuse problems affect all segments of society including collegiate athletics. Drug testing programs are viewed as one method of combating this problem, however, more emphasis should be placed upon developing effective prevention programs. Towards this end, the first purpose of this study was to draw from available literature to design a prevention program which would cater to the specific needs of student- athletes. The position is taken that since multiple factors such as genetic predisposition, the pharmacological properties of various substances, psychological variables, and environmental/socio-cultural influences are implicated in the etiology of substance abuse difficulties, multi-focused/broad-spectrum intervention programs would …

Assertiveness As A Characteristic Of Females In Male-Female Relationships In Selected Adolescent Novels From 1967-1976 And 1977-1986, Wanda Hagler Jan 1987

Assertiveness As A Characteristic Of Females In Male-Female Relationships In Selected Adolescent Novels From 1967-1976 And 1977-1986, Wanda Hagler

Theses and Dissertations

This descriptive study dealt with the subject of female assertiveness in male-female relationships as portrayed in adolescent novels. The hypotheses were that a more contemporary attitude toward women would be reflected in the past decade's literature for adolescents by featuring women who act more assertively in dating relationships, and that there would be a difference in the behavior of females in the novels published between 1967 - 1976 and those published between 1977 and 1986 with females of the former period assuming a more passive role in male-female relationships. Fifteen representative novels of each period were analyzed, and data were …

A Curriculum For The Moderately Mentally Handicapped For Recreational And Leisure Skills, Krista S. Lee

Theses and Dissertations

As a teacher of moderately mentally handicapped. students, I often ask myself, am I doing enough for my students? Am I giving them all I can? My answer at·3:45 p.m., as I walk out of my classroom on tired feet, is an emphatic yes. And I think, even in my rested moment, that I am giving much to my students. We all are. As we look back to where we've come from, we can see the great advances we have made in education for the handicapped. They are being given better education than ever in the ·history of education.

Histamine Receptors And Cyclic-Amp Levels In Rabbit Coronary Arteries., Dale Arthur Schuschke Jan 1987

Histamine Receptors And Cyclic-Amp Levels In Rabbit Coronary Arteries., Dale Arthur Schuschke

Theses and Dissertations

Histamine is known to cause an H$\sb 1$-receptor mediated vasoconstriction and an H$\sb2$-receptor mediated vasodilation in the coronary vasculature of the rabbit heart. In this study we looked at the role that the adenyl cyclase-cyclic AMP system plays in mediation of the histamine response in the vascular smooth muscle. Change in perfusion pressure in the isolated rabbit heart was used as the index of change in vascular tone when histamine was added to the perfusate. The vascular response to histamine was then studied while cAMP levels were altered by adenyl cyclase potentiation and phosphodiesterase inhibition. After the physiological responses of …
