Behavioral Responses To The Medicare Part D Coverage Gap And Its Closure, Selene Urbatsch

The author examines how exposure to the Medicare Part D coverage gap affects future prescription drug use and whether the closure of the gap under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) altered beneficiary behavior. Using 2007–2019 MEPS data, the analysis compares Part D enrollees to similarly aged, privately insured individuals, producing first-differences and difference-in-differences estimates. Before the ACA, exposure to the gap was associated with 4.9 fewer prescription fills relative to comparable non-Part D individuals. After the ACA, the effect fell to a reduction of 2.2 generic fills, with no significant decline in branded use. Sudden out-of-pocket cost increases prompted sharp …

This thesis examines how economic theory can explain differences in preferential access across products. Preferential access is the difference between the preferential tariff and the most favored nation (MFN) tariff. This research applies the theory from Bagwell and Staiger (1990) and the empirical findings from Bown and Crowley (2013) to tariff, import flow, import demand, and export supply elasticity data, where Chile is the reporting country. The two-way fixed effects linear regression estimates how changes in import growth, the volatility of import growth, and the inverse sum of import demand and export supply elasticities affect preferential access. This paper analyzes the ex-slave narrative Behind the Scenes, or Thirty Years a Slave and Four Years in the White House by Elizabeth Keckley through a Marxist and Romantic lens as a means to explore the impact of capitalism on Keckley while enslaved, as well as post-slavery. Through the paper, the author argues that Keckley successfully deflects the white voyeuristic gaze by replacing her physical form with clothing that she creates, as a means to both indict capitalism and reclaim ownership over her body. Mrs. Dalloway is one of Virginia Woolf’s best-known novels. It was published in London in 1925-seven years after the end of World War I. The novel centers on Clarissa Dalloway’s life on a specific day in June 1923, in preparation for a party she will host in the evening. The day is also the death of Septimus Smith, a subplot character who is an ex-soldier of World War I and serves as Clarissa Dalloway's doppelganger. “A Grieving Heart” is a 12-minute animated short film about an immigrant woman examining her past in the wake of her American ex-boyfriend’s death. The film features a first-person confessional voiceover, 2D black and white animated imagery, and an original score. The narrator reflects on her Chinese-American upbringing, her past relationship, and her current grief. The film explores how love and loss impact the ways she confronts her immigrant identity, memories, insecurities, and regrets.

As Above So Below is a short experimental documentary film that reveals an unexpected world of entanglements connecting life, death, and fungi in Brooklyn’s Green-Wood Cemetery. Fungi are nature’s decomposers, turning dead trees into soil so new trees can grow, for example. Mycorrhizal fungi perform acts of collaboration and mutualism, delivering water and nutrients to roots of plants through their underground networks of mycelium. However, traditional approaches for PICO classification demand computationally expensive domain-specific language models, such as BioBERT and ClinicalBERT, which require extensive training and large annotated datasets. This qualitative research study explores the lived experiences and sense of belonging of college students who identify as Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual (LGBTQIA+) at urban higher education institutions. Using Meyer’s minority stress model, Crenshaw’s intersectionality theory, and Strayhorn’s belonging framework, the study investigates how students’ intersecting identities shape their college experiences. Over 200 million liters of nuclear waste is stored in tank farms in Hanford, Washington, USA. An ongoing effort to immobilize non-solid nuclear waste is through waste vitrification, where waste is mixed and melted with glass-forming chemicals (GFCs) to form a waste glass. Algorithms to determine the ideal mixing recipes are formalized as constrained optimization problems to maximize waste loading in the glass product, with constraints on several properties of the glass melt and final product.
