Effects Of Environmental Stress And Antimicrobials On The Health, Microbiome, And Product Shelf-Life Of Channel And Hybrid Catfish, Guyue Tang

Two studies investigated various aspects of channel and hybrid catfish production and processing. The first study examined the effects of ammonia stress (15 mg/L vs. 1 mg/L control) on growth performance and fillet quality. While channel catfish demonstrated superior growth, ammonia stress minimally impacted the sensory profiles of both species. Gut microbiota analysis revealed species-specific differences, with Lactococcus lactis dominating hybrid catfish communities. The second study evaluated buffered vinegar treatment (1.5%) on fillet shelf life during refrigerated storage. Vinegar-treated fillets maintained better microbiological quality, with aerobic plate counts remaining below 7 log cfu/g through day 6, while untreated fillets exceeded …

Diffusion has been used to create synthetic data in the industrial, medical, and financial domains. Root phenotyping provides insights into root structure, function, and response to environmental stimuli, aiding researchers in improving crop yields, developing new plant varieties, and enhancing plant health. Traditionally, measuring root traits, such as length and area, is manual, time-consuming, and resource intensive. This study introduces a deep learning-based computer vision method for soybean root segmentation and traits estimation using RGB (red, green, blue) images captured under controlled illumination. This research study was conducted to determine how the COVID-19 pandemic affected the work-life balance of faculty at HBCCs based on their race, gender, age, marital status, and tenure status. The study employed a quantitative research design utilizing Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) to conduct time-based activities separately and group perception-based response variables into meaningful categories to uncover patterns. Catfish aquaculture is a critical industry in the United States and Mississippi in particular. The industry is beset by depredation, rising feed costs, competition with imports, and loss to disease. Chief among these is the myxozoan parasite and causative agent of proliferative gill disease, Henneguya ictaluri. In chapter 2, novel molecular markers for greater resolution in species identification of these parasites are provided, allowing more robust life cycle inference, species-level identifications, and inference of evolutionary relationships through molecular phylogenetic analyses. Cold spray additively manufactured (CSAM) aluminum alloys exhibit heterogenous microstructures and mechanical properties, primarily due to high dislocation densities, sub-grain structures, and variation in inter-particle (intersplat) bonding arising from high-velocity particle impacts. Thermal post-processing has been shown to enhance intersplat bonding, reduce high residual stress concentrations, and lower dislocation densities, thereby improving the overall mechanical properties. Building on previous advancements with a mean-field viscoplastic self-consistent (VPSC) model, integrating intersplat boundary terms, Hall-Petch relations, and physically informed residual stress parameters, the current work extends the model to include precipitates and their effects. Stepto’s “Afro-American narrative” tradition, Chapter One presents a biography of Hughes from his birth in 1902 until he came under the patronage of Charlotte Osgood Mason in 1927. Chapter One also addresses the aesthetic expectations of the Harlem Renaissance and the extent to which Hughes either met or failed to meet those expectations. Accurate and efficient detection of epileptic seizures from EEG signals remains a critical challenge due to high-dimensional data, class imbalance, and the limitations of standard classifiers. This thesis introduces two novel models to address these challenges. The first model presents a new classifier based on the Hellinger Distance, specifically designed to enhance discriminative capability and robustness against imbalanced datasets. By integrating the Hellinger Distance Classifier with Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) for feature selection, this model significantly improves classification performance while reducing computational complexity. This study examined how symbolic images in YouTube videos influences viewers’ emotions, trust, and engagement with political content online. Approximately 2,000 videos were collected and analyzed, with a focus on both thumbnails and standout frames. The findings revealed that cultural symbols were particularly effective at capturing attention and evoking strong emotional reactions—especially anger and disgust. Notably, these same symbols also enhanced viewer trust, making audiences less susceptible to misinformation. Statistical tests confirmed that these effects were consistent and significant. This thesis explores how Gloria Anzaldúa’s Borderlands/La Frontera (1987) and Helena María Viramontes’ short story “The Cariboo Café” (1985) portray marginalized individuals navigating liminal spaces of identity, oppression, and survival. Borderlands/La Frontera and “The Cariboo Café” show how systematic violence and displacement shatter the self, pushing characters to navigate trauma in a dystopian space. Sonya, Macky, the café owner, and the grieving mother represent Anzaldúa’s concepts of borderland subjectivity, betrayal, and spectral haunting.

We investigate the existence and stability of traveling wave solutions in a predator--prey population model that incorporates both nonlocal dispersal and time-delayed interactions. The problem arises when species distributions and feeding or reproduction processes do not respond instantaneously, but rather exhibit lags in space and time. Our aim is to understand how these delays and nonlocal effects impact the wavefront speed and the eventual establishment of a predator population in previously prey-dominated regions. This study examines how Sudanese refugee women, who arrived in Faisal, Cairo, after April 2023 experience gender-based violence (GBV). The research investigates the types of GBV these women encountered during their journey from Sudan to Cairo, how their gender roles changed in the asylum context, and their vision for the future regarding safety and support. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether individuals with moderate Broca's aphasia exhibit different pause duration and frequency patterns compared to individuals without neurological disorders, as well as to explore how speech task type influences pause patterns. A total of 16 participants (eight male and eight female) previously diagnosed with moderate Broca's aphasia and apraxia were included in this study, along with 16 age- and gender-matched control participants.
