Modern warfare is placing an increasing reliance on global communications. Currently under development are several Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite systems that propose to deliver voice and data traffic to subscribers anywhere on the globe. However, very little is known about the performance of conventional routing protocols under orbital conditions where the topology changes on a scale of minutes rather than days. This thesis compares two routing protocols in a LEO environment. One (Extended Bellman-Ford) is a conventional terrestrial routing protocol, while the other (Darting) is a new protocol which has been proposed as suitable for use in LEO networks. …

A ten element micromirror array has been designed, fabricated, and employed to control the far field irradiance pattern of a phase locked laser diode array. The laser array used in this experiment was a ten element, gain guided array lasing at a nominal wavelength of 828 nm and operating in the it out of phase supermode. The laser's near field irradiance was imaged onto a micromirror array, where the it phase differences between adjacent laser elements were corrected. This research examined health effects literature concerning several occupational chemicals, to identify significant adverse health trends and assess research quality, completeness, and relevance. After compiling this knowledge base, the research focus was narrowed to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), solvents, and pyridostigmine bromide (PB). A robust and efficient optimization code is developed and validated. The code is used to redesign an existing Mach 12 wind tunnel nozzle and utilizes response surface methodology (RSM) techniques. Explicit, globally second-order, flux-difference-splitting algorithms are used to solve the Navier-Stokes (NS) and Parabolized Navier-Stokes (PNS) flow solvers incorporated into the optimizer code. Either the Baldwin-Lomax or the Yang-Shih k-s turbulence model may be employed in the optimization code. First, 2-D/axisymmetric NS and PNS flow solvers are developed/modified and account for perfect gas/nonequilibrium chemically reacting flows.
