Early Mormon leaders realized the value of music as an important element in spiritual and recreational activities. Consequently, they encouraged and sponsored musical groups.
Three pioneer bands of Salt Lake City—the Nauvoo Brass Band, Nauvoo Legion Martial Band, and Quadrille Band—had originated during the early 1840's in Nauvoo, Illinois, under the sponsorship of Joseph Smith. They performed at all important civic and social occasions.

The history of the Manti temple, in a sense, began the first winter the Mormon Pioneers spent in Sanpete Valley. Because of the extreme cold they move to "temple hill" for protection. This same hill later became the site of the temple.
It had been predicted by Heber C. Kimball that a temple would someday be built on this spot. By 1873 plans were being made to this end. Preparations for construction were soon in progress and on April 25, 1877, the site was dedicated by President Brigham Young.

The colorful history of Mormon polygamy has many interesting stories to tell, and one of the most interesting is that of Rev. Dr. J. P. Newman's debate with the Mormon Apostle Orson Pratt on "Does the Bible Sanction Polygamy?" This debate was held at the New Tabernacle in Salt Lake City, Utah, on August 12, 13, and 14, 1870. Newman was the Chaplain of the United States Senate and one of the foremost preachers of Washington, D.C. His appearance in Salt Lake City to debate the question of polygamy was a national topic. John Elliott Tullidge was one of a group of early musicians that exerted a considerable influence on the culture of Utah. He was a gentlemen well trained in the musical arts and intensely proud of his profession.
He was born November 5, 1807, a son of Edward and Mary Elliott Tullidge, in Weymouth, Dorsetshire, England. It is hoped that through the inclusion of the history of the drama in Corinne, Utah, some interesting contrasts can be shown. Such contrasts are heightened when it Is realized that geographically the two towns are very close and that unlike Brigham City, and other Utah towns, Corinne was non-Mormon. During its zenith it undoubtedly reflected the typical frontier town characteristics more than did the Mormon town nearby. This fact provides opportunity for comparison of two societies as reflected in their dramatic activities. Millard County, Utah is located one hundred and fifty miles south of Salt Lake City in the west central part of the state. The county is bounded on the north by Juab County, on the west by Nevada, on the south by Beaver County, and on the east by Sevie, Sanpete, and Juab Counties.
There are interesting formations of extinct volcanoes. Fossils can be found and well marked evidences of an ancient lake named Bonneville.

The Indian agent, the trapper, or the citizens of small Iowa townships were undoubtedly startled to see such a large movement of people and wagons across the state of Iowa. It was the winter and early spring of 1846. The onlooker would have seen men, women, and children muffled against the wintry blast, walking or riding in covered wagons and lesser vehicles.
