Differential Thermal Analysis Of Lignite Ash, Robert G. Bredahl Aug 1965

Differential Thermal Analysis Of Lignite Ash, Robert G. Bredahl

Theses and Dissertations

The feasibility of applying differential thermal analysis techniques to relate variance in the chemical analysis of fouling and non-fouling lignite ashes to specific differential temperature peaks was investigated.

Analysis was accomplished by heating powdered samples (minus 200 Tyler mesh) at an average heating rate of 13° F per minute from ambient conditions to 1*850° F in an oxidising atmosphere. The samples were contained in a cylindrical nickel sample cell and temperature was monitored with ehromel-alumel thermocouples.

Boiler flyash samples* laboratory ashed samples of natural lignite and synthetic ash mixtures based on the chemical analysis of the natural lignites were prepared …

A Comparison Of Physical Fitness Levels Attained Over A Two Year Period By Elementary School Children Using Obstacle-Type Playground Equipment As Against Conventional Equipment, Douglas G. Lithun

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to compare and differentiate between the extent of physical fitness of 193 elementary school children in Crookston, Minnesota as achieved by two different types of playground equipment. The experimental equipment consisted of an obstacle course while the control group used conventional equipment.

The statistical procedure used in this study included the matched sample and random sample t test. In using these two procedures, the matched sample t test was computed using a program of related t scores in matrix form for 30 variables with means and standard deviations. The random sample t test was …

Tularemia And Deer Flies In The Environs Of Utah Lake, Utah, Kaye B. Cox May 1965

Tularemia And Deer Flies In The Environs Of Utah Lake, Utah, Kaye B. Cox

Theses and Dissertations

Deer flies have been implicated as mechanical veotors of tularemia in Utah. Although infected flies heretofore have not been tound in nature, there is little doubt of their importance in transmitting tularemia to man. Two species present in this area, Chrysops discalis Williston and Chrysops noctifer Osten Sacken, have been shown experimentally to transmit the disease. The presence of deer flies in the environs of Utah Lake where tularemia is endemic oftera a potential health threat to man, and the expanding human population and development ot recreational facilities adjacent to the lake inorease this potential. Despite the taot that deer …

A Thermodynamic Study Of (1) Ligand Replacement Reactions And (2) The Interaction Of Hgcl[Subscript 2](Aq) With Hydroxide Ion, Ethylenediamine, Glycinate Ion, And Methylamine, Jerry Alvin Partridge

Theses and Dissertations

A method is reported for determining the species formed in solution by ligand replacement reactions. Reactions in dilute aqueous solution were studied in which the Cl^- on HgCl_2(aq) was replaced by hydroxide ion, ethylenediamine, glycinate ion, and methylamine. The species formed by the replacement reactions were established through computer analysis of pH titration data. Various reaction sequences were proposed for each system and log K values were calculated for each sequence. The selection of the correct reaction sequence for each system was based on the premise that only when the correct sequence is proposed will consistent log K values be …
