Impediments To Teaching Science In Elementary Schools In South-Central Minnesota With Comparisons To Findings Of The National Science Foundation, Edward R. Borchardt

Theses and Dissertations

This study identified and ranked impediments to teaching elementary school science perceived by elementary teachers in south-central Minnesota, examined impediments for common roots, compared current impediments to findings of a 1977 National Science Foundation study, and investigated if the survey device used affected the results obtained in a study.

Public and private elementary school teachers in southcentral Minnesota were surveyed using one of two forms. Survey 1 was a list of impediments generated by 34 teachers and ranked by 104 teachers. A Comparison Of Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory Profiles In Native American And White Alcoholics, Barbara Nelle Vesely

Theses and Dissertations

Although the literature on alcoholism is extensive, virtually all of the existing psychological theories of alcoholism are based on research primarily conducted on White males. The question of generalizability of these research findings to females and to other ethnic groups, such as Native Americans, is one of paramount importance. The present study was designed to investigate differences between the sexes and between the White and Native American groups, by analysis of the MMPI profiles of each group.

In addition to investigation of the group differences, this study addressed another major deficiency of the literature. Many psychological assessments, for example the …

A Comparison Of Homosexuals' And Heterosexuals' Love And Friend Relationships, Nanette M. Gorman

Theses and Dissertations

The present investigation employed Wright's self-referent model of relationships in the examination of homosexual relationships. It was hypothesized that the voluntary interdependence and person-qua-person scales would be higher for female homosexuals than for female heterosexuals. For both male and female homosexual relationships, it was hypothesized that ego support value, self-affirmation value, security value, and maintenance difficulty would be higher for homosexuals, with maintenance difficulty being higher for male homosexual love relationships than lesbian love relationships. In terms of love relationships, it was expected that homosexual males would provide lower scores than homosexual females for exclusivity and emotional salience.

Research materials …

Preschool Behavioral Precursors Of The Delinquency Of Juvenile Offenders: A Retrospective Study, Kay A. Halverson

Theses and Dissertations

Early behaviors of juvenile offenders and nonoffenders were studied to assess differences between the two groups. Experimental subjects were 50 youth residing in three northeastern counties of North Dakota who had committed two or more offenses. Control subjects were 50 non-offenders matched for birthdate, sex, and school. Data were collected retrospectively from both groups on Form 1 of the Louisville Behavior Checklist (LBC)» an inventory designed to detect psychopathological behaviors among preschool children. The responses were analyzed in terms of hypotheses that were designed to address (a) which scales of the LBC would show a significant difference between the offender …
