Social Support Systems Of A Selected Sample Of Older Women, Carol Thorpe Tully
Social Support Systems Of A Selected Sample Of Older Women, Carol Thorpe Tully
Theses and Dissertations
In an effort to examine social organizational structures and support systems in the social world of the older lesbian woman, 73 self-identified lesbian women fifty years of age or older provided data on their personal interactions with the economic, political, educational, religious, social welfare and familial social systems of the heterosexual culture and the homosexual subculture. Results from this cross-sectional survey depict the sample as well educated, professional, financially secure, politically liberal women in good health who are selective with whom they reveal their sexual orientation. The knowledge of their lesbianism is shared more with female friends than with family …
A Production Approach To The Shadow Box: A Thematic Study Of Death And Dying, Michael Joseph Kramer
A Production Approach To The Shadow Box: A Thematic Study Of Death And Dying, Michael Joseph Kramer
Theses and Dissertations
Life continually ceases to exist, making death a mysterious frontier that even learned people have been unable to grasp. Death has been the subject of all genres of literature where answers to this phenomena have been infinitely scrutinized. Within the last few decades, a curiosity over the unknown dinensions of death has risen. Literature has also shared this curiosity. In the late seventies, Michael Cristofer's The Shadow Box adopted the theories of contemporary research and depicted three social units adjusting to the dying process. My purpose in this study has been three-fold: to compare other twentieth century plays on death …

Person-Environment Interaction In Nursing Homes For The Elderly, Stan J. Orchowsky
Person-Environment Interaction In Nursing Homes For The Elderly, Stan J. Orchowsky
Theses and Dissertations
There has been a growing interest in recent years in the study of person-environment interaction in the elderly. Several theoretical models have been proposed in the gerontological literature. Each of these models suffers from one or more limitations, including the restriction of requiring that the person and the environment be measured in the same terms, and the difficulty posed by attempting to empirically test the model.
A new model of person-environment interaction in the elderly is proposed here. The model views life satisfaction as the ultimate outcome variable. Feelings of personal control and choice are seen as intervening between life …
A Study To Compare The Strength Changes After Training The Abductor Digiti Minimi In Young Adults And In Geriatric Adults, Timothy Lee Kauffman
A Study To Compare The Strength Changes After Training The Abductor Digiti Minimi In Young Adults And In Geriatric Adults, Timothy Lee Kauffman
Theses and Dissertations
A paucity of research exists in the strength training and aging literature. Hettinger (1958) reported that strength declined with age and that older persons gained less with strength training than younger persons. This study altered Hettinger's design by using a different muscle and a different strengthening routine. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of isometric strength training of the non-dominant left abductor digiti minimi muscles of young subjects and old subjects. The ten young female subjects, mean age 22.6 years, were all nursing students. The ten older female subjects, mean age 69.2 years, did not constitute …

Attraction Of A Senior Citizen To A Hypothetical Stranger As A Function Of The Stranger's Age, Sex, And Attitude Similarity, Carl R. Westphal
Attraction Of A Senior Citizen To A Hypothetical Stranger As A Function Of The Stranger's Age, Sex, And Attitude Similarity, Carl R. Westphal
Theses and Dissertations
The present study was designed to examine the variables which affect attraction in a senior citizen population. In particular, variables which have been shown to affect attraction in younger persons were examined as to their relevancy to older subjects. It was predicted that a stranger’s age, sex, and proportion of similar attitudes would have a significant effect on a senior citizen's attraction rating of the stranger.
A stranger’s age, sex, and proportion of similar attitudes were varied according to a 3 (proportion of similar attitudes) X 3 (age of stranger) X 2 (sex of stranger) factorial design. Male and female …
