Electronic Data Processing Feasibility Study Machinery For Commercial Banking Firms, David W. Howell Aug 1967

Electronic Data Processing Feasibility Study Machinery For Commercial Banking Firms, David W. Howell

Theses and Dissertations

Electronic Data Pro9essing is one of the most significant developments in recorded history. Many commercial banks have computers installed on their premises or lease computer time from a service company. A significant proportion of the installed systems are underutilized both in the number of applications programmed and total computer run times. This is a result of bank management's ignorance of electronic data processing characteristics and the subsequent poor and incomplete planning.

A commercial banking firm should establish electronic data processing feasibility study machinery on a. permanent basis. The creation of a permanent staff of junior bank executives should ensure intelligent …

William Langer: The Progressive Attorney General (1917-1920), Elaine J. Weber

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study is to indicate how many of William hanger's actions during his years as Attorney General from 1917-1920, can be understood by identifying him with the progressive leaders of that day. The main sources of information used were the William hanger Papers and newspapers of the day.

Early Twentieth Century progressives were often noted for their zeal in moral reform. As Attorney General, hanger strictly and conspicuously enforced prohibition and the Blue laws, hike other progressives, he believed in the perfectability of man and looked for the day when the people would keep the laws voluntarily. …

The Development Of Basement Membranes Associated With Vascular Invasion Of The Brain In The Chick Embryo, Richard G. Peterson Aug 1967

The Development Of Basement Membranes Associated With Vascular Invasion Of The Brain In The Chick Embryo, Richard G. Peterson

Theses and Dissertations

Since a basement membrane is present on all blood vessels and also on all tissues of ectodermal origin, the blood vessels of the central nervous system should have two basement membranes, one related to the blood vessel, the other related to the nervous tissue. Also, the tissue space usually bordering on the basement membranes should in the central nervous system separate the two. In the adult brain and spinal cord, however, only one basement membrane and no tissue space surround the blood vessels of the central nervous system. This study, therefore, has been concerned with the embryonic development of blood …

Painting As A Public Art, Wayne R. Juhala Aug 1967

Painting As A Public Art, Wayne R. Juhala

Theses and Dissertations

The artist throughout history has had difficulty in communicating to the mass of people. Most art has been made for special classes of people who represent authority. There has always been a need for a meaningful visual communication with a"VI the people because there is a need for a fine art which can fill the gap left by the passing of folk art. Painting is the easiest of the art forms for the public to understand and grasp because it has the greatest storytelling possibilities. There is a real need for artists to try and communicate with the broad mass …

Physical data were also collected: bicarbonates, carbonates, free carbon dioxide, hydroxides, oxygen, pH, and temperature. The physical environment of the water was found to be very constant. Tests taken at the different study sites were consistently similar, not only during each day, but all year around. No great variation of any kind was found in the water. In contrast to the water environment, the topography of the …

Unionism In The Field Of Banking, William Gardiner Aug 1967

Unionism In The Field Of Banking, William Gardiner

Theses and Dissertations

In the forty-five years since the first labor bank was chartered, unions have enjoyed little success in organizing bank employees. Unions now face declining membership unless white-collar workers can be convinced of the value of unionism, so bank workers, as one of the rapidly growing elements of the white-collar population, are being closely scrutinized as potential union candidates.

The unique aspects of the banking industry have in the past dissipated drives of any 1113.gnitude directed at individual segments of the industry, while rendering any organizational campaign across the entire banking front unfeasible. The close relationship between worker and management, the …

Three judges were used to code a sample of the material, and inter-agreement percentages were calculated for each coder. The results of the subject matter and directional analysis are presented in tables …

An Ecological Study Of Two Adjacent Microtine Populations, James E. Skaley Aug 1967

An Ecological Study Of Two Adjacent Microtine Populations, James E. Skaley

Theses and Dissertations

Daily movements of two adjacent microtine populations were correlated with the utilization of various types of microenvironments. Animals were trapped, marked and released on a gridded area which transected three ecological zones, a riparian woodland, an edge, and an old field. Average distance traveled between recaptures and standard diameters were used to estimate activity patterns and home ranges of the meadow vole, Microtus pennsylvanicus, and the red-backed vole, Clethrionomys gapperi. Microtus restricted their activity to grassy habitats while Clethrionomys remained in the woodland. There was no ecological overlap between the two species. In spite of relatively high population densities, meadow …

The Status Of The Common Crow Corvus Brachyrhynchos Brehm In The Great Basin, Gerald Low Richards

Theses and Dissertations

Due to a lack of taxonomic and distributional information concerning the Common Crow Corvus brachryhynchos Brehm inhabiting the Great Basin of North America, Johnston (1961) in one of the most recent revisions on crows, was unable to include this area in his work. Between 1965 and 1967, field trips were taken throughout the Great Basin to secure specims, and to determine to what extent the area was being utilized by crows. Ecological information such as habitat prference, nesting behavior, and interactions with other species was collected where possible. Forty-eight birds were collected from the Great Basin. From a comparison of …

Triatoma Infestans As An Experimental And Natural Vector Of Rauscher Murine Leukemia, Mary Frances Bobo

Theses and Dissertations

The reduviid bug, Triatoma infestans, was Investigated as a possible vector of Rauscher murine leukemia, since these insects are closely associated in nature as inhabitants of rodent burrows.

The effect of triatomid ingestion of leukemic blood was tested by maintaining insects fed on leukemic mice for various periods, and then injecting whole-insect homogenates into test mice. The viremic period for mice injected with Rauscher virus was determined by inoculating a large group of mice and sacrificing them over an 18-day period. Blood and spleen preparations were assayed for presence of virus by inoculating test mice. Biological and mechanical transmission was …

The Changing Aspects Of Nature In Art, Donald C. Grandbois Jun 1967

The Changing Aspects Of Nature In Art, Donald C. Grandbois

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study Is to explain my theory of painting. Why I paint as I do Is a conplex natter. My painting Is neither accidental nor the tracing of surface reality. Depth Distribution Of Goldeye, Hiodon Alosoides (Rafinesque), In Moccasin Bay Of The Little Missouri Arm Of Garrison Reservoir, North Dakota, Spencer A. Peterson

Theses and Dissertations

The depth distribution of goldeye, Hiodon alosoides, and yellow perch, Perea flavescens. was studied in Moccasin Bay on the Little Missouri Arm of Garrison Reservoir, North Dakota, using a specially constructed vertical gill net (June through August, 1966). Ten other species were captured in relatively small numbers. Throughout the summer nearly all goldeye were caught at night in the upper ten feet of water. Indications were that goldeye depth distribution was affected more by light and feeding habits than by the limnological factors measured. Small numbers of yellow perch caught in June indicated no distinct depth preference; however, all yellow …
