This research evaluated the effectiveness of the Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.) gang prevention program among elementary school children. The focus of this research is to determine if the G.R.E.A.T. program changes the attitudes and beliefs of elementary school boys and girls who live in areas that are at high risk of gang involvement and gang related crimes. This research also aims to find out which gender is most affected by the program. The sample size was 103 females and 82 males in the fourth and fifth grades. The purpose of this project was to develop a customer service survey to be used by child welfare agencies to improve both ongoing social work practice and training of new social workers. Two organizations in Southern California under contract with Children and Family Services (CFS) to serve former foster youth were contacted to recruit volunteers for the focus groups. This study examined whether there is a correlation between medical practitioner's level of death anxiety and communication about the advance directive. Even though there is a lot of common sense in stating the obvious complexity of issues surrounding end of life, there is also a clear discomfort with accepting the advance directive and the patient's wishes at face value and the underlying reasons for that may lie in the physician's own feelings over death.

This study provided a statistical analysis of reunifications rates and treatments offered for sexually abused children and their parents. This study consisted of computer case files in Riverside Child Protective Services of foster children who had been sexually abused and will help in further research studies conducted in Riverside County and in various surrounding counties to understand the impact of child sexual abuse. Data was collected from fifty case files using computer databases and a data extraction tool.

The study investigated Children and Family Services (CFS) workers' awareness of the importance of father-daughter attachments and the associated risks of teenage pregnancy as well as the use of such knowledge in their intake assessment process. A quantitative, cross-sectional, survey design was utilized to study 113 child welfare workers who were employed with San Bernardino County Children and Family Services in California.

The intent of this research is to determine the relationship, if any, between social worker characteristics such as age, gender, parental status, years of experience as a social worker, education level and the perception of safety and risk factors in child abuse investigations. The research study will focus on the public sector of child welfare, specifically the initial investigation period (Investigative Services program) within Riverside County Department of Public Social Services in Riverside, California. The purpose of this study is to gain understanding into the effects that juvenile offender treatment facilities have on the nurturance of protective factors leading to resilience in juvenile offenders. This research study looks into juvenile offenders self-perceptions of factors associated with resilience during an intervention program. This thesis centers on establishing the relationship between a parent's employment status and the impact the loss of funding from CalWORKs Stage 3 childcare funding might have on child abuse. CalWORKs Stage 3 funding was installed in 1997 as a safety net for families to receive subsidized childcare for working parents if the household is below 75% of the state median income and the children are under the age of 13 and eliminated in November 2010. The purpose of this study was to address social workers concerns associated with the loss of this funding.

The youth population is vulnerable to the constant changes that they are encountering. The stressors of school, their changing bodies, and coping with the stressors of home all play an important role in the way that they develop themselves as responsible citizens. The purpose of this study is to add new information to the field of social work and enhance the current practices that are implemented in the criminal justice system to help juvenile dilinquents. What is now considered ordinary operations such as dialing, texting, photographing, gaming, email and voice mail, downloading, etc., is not viewed as ordinary forms of communication by some people and particularly, not by portions of the elderly population.
