The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of physical activity on physical self-concept among college students. Physical activity has been promoted as a means of reinforcing self-concept. A sedentary lifestyle and physical inactivity are considered to be leading components known to result in obesity.

Hate Crimes Based On Gender Identity And Sexual Orientation, Katie Nicole Williams

The purpose of this study was to examine hate crimes based on their gender identity or sexual orientation of the victim through selected variables. The research looked at information collected from a variety of media sources, categorized the information into the existing dataset, and used a chi-square test to prove the significance. The sample analyzed contains 121 cases of individuals that were killed because of their real or perceived gender identity or sexual orientation within a twenty year time frame; Mathew Shepard, a highly publicized hate crime victim, was used as the focal point of this research.

Research has suggested smaller class sizes in early elementary grades lead to improved academic achievement, particularly for minority or low socioeconomic status students. Yet, the impact of class size reduction in middles schools is largely unstudied. The focus of the current research targeted the impact of class size reduction in two middle schools in Southern California that successfully applied for the Quality Investment Education Act (QEIA) grant. The study used individual survey methods to collect its data. Participants for this study were recruited from paid employees of Catholic Charities of San Bernardino and Riverside (CCSBR), one of the largest non-profit organizations in the Inland Empire. The purpose of this research study was to explore the level of knowledge among Master's of Social Work (MSW) students regarding the effects of parental incarceration on the children and families involved, and the special needs that result from this experience. This study utilized an online survey targeting MSW students at three Southern California Schools of Social Work to assess their overall knowledge of this topic, how this knowledge was attained, and level of competence and confidence that the respondents felt in meeting the psycho-social needs of the population. A total of 70 surveys were completed by the target respondents.

The purpose of this study was to investigate sexual assault disclosure reactions and psychological symptoms. It was predicted that negative disclosure reactions would be positively correlated with psychological symptoms and positive disclosure reactions would be negatively correlated with psychological symptoms. Participants include twenty-nine females who had previously experienced a sexual assault. Each participant filled out several on-line questionnaires.

The purpose of this study is to explore whether social workers can recognize depression in the elderly. The elderly who are experiencing depression usually do not seek treatment from mental health professionals. Instead they go to primary care personnel in medical settings. Yet, social workers are employed in medical settings and are part of the primary care personnel. But, often the medical and/or mental health communities' lack of recognition of late life depression results from the attitude that old age is innately a downward spiral into limitations, weakness, helplessness, and burdensome existence.

This study examined the effect of a workshop with simulated clinical interpersonal skills practice and conversational analysis on second-year nursing students' interpersonal communication skills. The ultimate goal of the present researcher is to empower nursing students with the knowledge and skills to communicate effectively with all members of the healthcare team. The target population consists of second-year nursing students, with the accessible population at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB). This study looked at the Senior Peer Counseling Program to see what motivated these seniors to volunteer. Much research has been done on voluteering and the older adult population, much of it showing the benefits of volunteering on the health and well-being of the seniors that volunteer. The San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health's Agewise program has has a Senior Peer Counseling Program in effect since 1987 and increased it through MHSA (Mental Health Services Act) funding in 2007.

In this study, a structural equation model was used to investigate the relationships between neuroticism, Early Maladaptive Schemas (EMS), and agression. Findings from this study indicates significant paths between all latent constructs and measured variables. This study investigated responsibility attributions for a partner's emotional infidelity and for a partner's sexual infidelity, and the likelyhood that the victim or partner would end the relationship. This study found a significant relationship between responsibility attributions for a romantic partner's unfaithfulness and the likelihood the relationship would end: the stronger the attributions of personal responsibility the more likely the relationship would dissolve.

The purpose of this study was to examine the current research on mergers and acquisitions which includes organizational factors, such as communication processes, and their impact on employee reactions. The current study addresses this issue through a simulated M&A announcement laboratory experiment with 156 CSUSB undergraduate students.
