United States Mainland Speakers' Use Of Hawaiian Creole English And Standard American English Across Social Situations, Nicole Kaylani Kanahele Stutz

This study will focus on Hawaiian Creole English and standard American English (HCE/SAE) speakers who grew up in Hawai'i and relocated to the mainland as adults, and how their use of HCE and SAE varies across different social situations. In Hawai'i much of the population speaks Hawaiian Creole English and Standard American English, speakers often code-switch between the two varieties. Fluency in HCE and SAE differs among speakers, and this fact has implications for communication in a preferred language variety in particular social situations.

Effects Of Early Amphetamine Exposure On Memory, Wendy Ann Holmquist

The purpose of the current study was to determine if rat pups treated with amphetamine (AMPH) during a critical time of hippocamal development would exhibit deficits in spatial learning and memory when tested in the Morris water maze during adolescence. Exposure to amphetamine during early postnatal development induces long-term reductions in protein kinase A (PKA) activity. Because PKA activity is known to regulate the production of brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), and reductions in BDNF are associated with memory deficits, it was hypothesized that early exposure to amphetamine would lead to declines in both BDNF levels and memory performance. An area that is often malingered is insanity, where criminal defendents will fake that they are mentally ill as to avoid imprisonment or the death penalty. The purpose of this project was to look at and determine the methods that would best prevent the occurrence of false readings durring testing and analysis of cyanide in wastewater. This project was designed to help those wastewater treatment plants in the Santa Ana Watershed who are in the process of developing a uniform method that minimizes or eliminates interferences currently found. Eastern Municipal District, Inland Empire Utilities agency, Orange County Water District, San Bernardino Valley Municipal, Water District, and Western Municipal Water District all are members of the Santa Ana Watershed Project Authority (SAWPA).

The primary focus of this study is to explore the underlying reasons for the negative attitudes that mental health professionals harbor toward clients diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. Of main concern is a problem that involves a lack of desire on the part of the clinicians to treat individuals with an Axis II diagnosis, specifically Borderline Personality Disorder. Much of this attitude can be attributed to the fact that clients presenting with symptoms of BPD exhibit extremely destructive personality characteristics that cause others to distance themselves.
