Moral Competence In Nursing: An Exploration Of The Giving Voice To Values Curriculum, Catherine Costa
Moral Competence In Nursing: An Exploration Of The Giving Voice To Values Curriculum, Catherine Costa
Theses
The development of moral competence is central to the profession of nursing and its practice. Nurses engage in moral decision making that impacts the health of people, families, and communities. It is important, then, to ensure that nursing graduates possess the necessary moral development for engaging in professional practice. To this end, research was conducted, the principle premise of which was to explore the use of the introduction of the Giving Voice to Values curriculum (Gentile, 2010) and its contribution to the development of moral competence in nursing. The Giving Voice to Values curriculum is a values-based methodology enabling students …
The Confluence Of Short-Term Immersion And Intercultural Competence: Positive Impacts For Australian Preservice Teachers, Julie Maakrun
The Confluence Of Short-Term Immersion And Intercultural Competence: Positive Impacts For Australian Preservice Teachers, Julie Maakrun
Theses
Increasing global migration across geographical, linguistic and cultural borders has resulted in culturally and linguistically diverse classrooms in Australia. In response, teacher education programs are exploring ways to enhance preservice teachers’ ability to engage with cultural diversity appropriately and effectively. One way is through the provision of short-term immersion programs. As experiential learning, such programs allow opportunities for students to be embedded in the breadth and depth of human experience, to better understand themselves and the ‘cultural other’. These programs also enable an examination of personal beliefs, habits, and values, which may assist students in moving from a rigid dualist …
Worker Psycho-Spiritual Self-Care Choices: Making Sense During Times Of Stress And Anxiety, Peter Devenish-Meares
Worker Psycho-Spiritual Self-Care Choices: Making Sense During Times Of Stress And Anxiety, Peter Devenish-Meares
Theses
This thesis explores and extends the use of psycho-spiritual self-care choices in support of sense-making and inner healing of workplace stress. The study was motivated by a lack of research about and the observation that, despite their usefulness in other disciplines, psycho-spiritual self-care choices are often poorly understood or ignored in the workplace. Yet, chronic stress, if left unaddressed, can lead to adverse mental health consequences. This is particularly so when harsh self-criticism, poor self-acceptance and lack of self-kindness stymie self-care and meaningful sense-making. Notably too, there is next to no research that shows how workers might detach from work …
Integral And Holistic Catechesis For Children In The Third Millennium, William K. O'Leary
Integral And Holistic Catechesis For Children In The Third Millennium, William K. O'Leary
Theses
The Third Millennium necessitates a catechetical vision that engages the whole person and is faithful to both God and the human person who receives it. Catechesis, from the beginning, has had the mission to witness to and instruct believers in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This dissertation seeks to lay out a Catechetical Synthesis which sets the stage for children (and adults) of how the Church over the last two thousand years has transmitted the gift of the deposit of faith by engaging the whole person: body, heart and mind. Catechesis which does not engage the whole …
A Study Of The Contributions Of Fr. Johannes Hofinger S.J. And Msgr. Eugene Kevane To The Catechetical Renewal Of The 20th Century And Their Relevance For Catechesis Today, Ronald Bolster
Theses
The Kerygmatic renewal of the 20th century, facilitated and documented by Fr. Johannes Hofinger, S.J., was launched in response to the recognition that the traditional method of instruction from the catechism was no longer bearing the fruit of lived Christian discipleship. During this period, Msgr. Eugene Kevane associated this decline in effectiveness with the influence of Modernism. The contributions of both were consistent with the conciliar and post-conciliar catechetical interventions of the Catholic Church. Resistance to the Church’s implementation of these interventions demonstrates that the challenge for catechesis today is a contemporary manifestation of the historical tension intrinsic to the …

Exploring The Validity Of Script Concordance Testing To Assess The Clinical Reasoning Of Medical Students, Micahel Sh Wan
Theses
Assessment of clinical reasoning is often challenging, as it is a complex process of thinking and decision making. Script Concordance Testing (SCT), using authentic clinical scenarios with diagnostic or management uncertainties, has been developed to assess clinical reasoning. As SCT is a relatively new assessment modality, more empirical evidence is needed to support the validity of SCT scores.
This thesis examines key aspects of the validity of SCT scores in the assessment of the clinical reasoning ability of medical undergraduates. A review of the current literature informs the use, design and standard setting of SCT, as well as evidence for …

An Implementation Of Chacha20 Stream Cypher In All-Programmable Socs, Igor Semenov
An Implementation Of Chacha20 Stream Cypher In All-Programmable Socs, Igor Semenov
Theses
An increased reliance on services offered online is an inherent aspect of the Information Age. Such services often handle sensitive customers' data and therefore must ensure its confidentiality, for example, by using cryptographic algorithms. Some algorithms, such as AES, have long been used for this purpose, but they impose additional cost and/or performance overheads. However, new lightweight stream cyphers, such as ChaCha20, are emerging as a faster alternative to conventional algorithms without sacrificing the security. Development of hardware cryptographic accelerators has been widely used to reduce performance overheads of cryptographic algorithms. In the past, this approach was extremely expensive, but …
Reclaiming The R-Word : Romanization As A Framework For Culture Change In The Roman Provinces, Mary Lauryn Davis
Reclaiming The R-Word : Romanization As A Framework For Culture Change In The Roman Provinces, Mary Lauryn Davis
Theses
The concept of Romanization, or Rome’s process of making its newly conquered provinces more like Rome, has fallen out of favor in recent decades and has been replaced by a succession of postcolonial frameworks that progressively decenter Rome from the transformation process. I argue, against this new orthodoxy, that Rome was actively responsible for imposing profound social changes on its provincial populations that resulted in a shift toward Roman culture in the interest of Roman imperialism. This affected every segment of every conquered population, though the details of individual experiences varied widely, as can be seen in analysis along geographical, …
Partially Averaged Navier-Stokes : A (K-Omega)/(K-Epsilon) Bridging Model, Christopher Harrison
Partially Averaged Navier-Stokes : A (K-Omega)/(K-Epsilon) Bridging Model, Christopher Harrison
Theses
A new Partially Averaged Navier-Stokes (PANS) bridging model has been derived from existing (k-ω) and (k-ε) PANS formulations using Menter’s approach. The model was tested with well-known benchmark wall-bounded and free-shear flows: a backward facing step and a circular cylinder, respectively. The simulation results are compared to existing experimental data and previous simulations using (k-ω) and (k-ε) PANS. The bridging model was shown to be superior at predicting velocity profiles in both flows. Prediction of Reynolds stresses also showed improvement. Several inlet conditions were studied for the backward facing step. Imposition of a turbulent boundary layer profile at the inlet …
Microstructural Evolution Of Tin Alloy Anodes For Lithium Ion Batteries, Jacob N. Adams
Microstructural Evolution Of Tin Alloy Anodes For Lithium Ion Batteries, Jacob N. Adams
Theses
There is capability for advancement of the electrochemical capacity of lithium ion battery (LIB) electrodes by utilizing the high capacity of tin (Sn) in Sn alloy electrodes. However, the destructive effects of volumetric expansion must be mitigated in order to sustain this high capacity during extended cycling. One of the ways these effects can be mitigated is by alloying Sn with more malleable metals. Through this approach the electrode can attempt to accommodate the severe volumetric expansion and related strain. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of alloy electrodes, ex situ X-ray microtomography data of cycled Cu6Sn5 pellets was used …

Experimental Investigation Of A Liquid-Gas Dual-Swirl Coaxial Injector Under Self-Pulsation, Isheeta Sunil Ranade
Theses
Liquid-gas swirl coaxial injectors in liquid rocket engines can produce self- excited, and self- sustained oscillations called self- pulsations that result in spray oscillations and high-intensity pressure fluctuations. The objective of this thesis is to determine the onset of self-pulsations, marked by a stability boundary over a range of liquid and gas momentum flux values. Cold-flow injector tests are performed to investigate the self- pulsation phenomenon in a dual- swirl coaxial injector using water and nitrogen to simulate liquid and gas propellants used in liquid rocket engines. Three geometric configurations are tested: non-recessed, and recesses of 1 mm and 2 …
