Role Of Leader’S Emotional Intelligence In Organizational Learning: A Quantitative Analysis, Navjot Kaur
Role Of Leader’S Emotional Intelligence In Organizational Learning: A Quantitative Analysis, Navjot Kaur
Theses
Although most researchers have argued that a leader’s Emotional Intelligence (EI) capability positively influences Organizational Learning (OL), this relationship has only been studied at surface level. Consequently, there is no clear mechanism explaining how leaders facilitate various sub-processes of learning at the individual, team, and organizational levels. In this study, we operationalize Goleman’s (1998) mixed model of EI and 4I framework of learning proposed by Crossan et al. (1999) to shed further light on this connection. Our study follows a deductive approach, where a conceptual model is first developed through a conceptual literature review and then empirically tested using correlation …

A Doe To Determine Significant Manufacturing Parameters For Opv Devices, Iain Tracton
Theses
The study of alternative energy sources is important to fighting climate change by reducing our dependence on burning of fossil fuels. Solar power is of interest because of the immense power radiated by the sun. Organic Photovoltaic (OPV) devices offer the ability to produce cheaper solar power but are challenged by low device efficiencies. In this study we work with devices made from squaraines (SQ) and a common functionalized fullerene (PCBM). We conduct a Design of Experiments (DOE) to determine what manufacturing parameters are affecting device efficiencies. By conducting a DOE, we also gain the ability to determine if there …

The B Respirator Respiratory Protection For The Bearded Man, Joseph R. Allgeier
Theses
The news today is filled with stories of respiratory illnesses. The health risks to people are everywhere. Dangerous health situations are created by nature and they are also man made. One thing stands between people and breathing contaminated air and that is a variety of different types of dust masks and respirators. Unfortunately, a huge portion of our population has been left out of this protective solution since most affordable respirators rely on seal created by skin contact. Men with beards or facial hair that interfere with this seal must choose between faulty protection or no protection at all. “Just …
Design And Development Of An Ergonomic Hybrid Forklift Seat, Pranav Madhav Kuber
Design And Development Of An Ergonomic Hybrid Forklift Seat, Pranav Madhav Kuber
Theses
Ergonomic designs have positive impact on the end-user experience of any product. One of the main challenges is to accommodate a range of end-users, for which the concept of adjustability has been found to be very effective. The backrest in a forklift, for example, is provided for comfortable driving in the form of leaning/sitting postures. An ergonomic backrest has to consider the anthropometric variation in the human population to ensure optimum levels of comfort for everyone. This study provides a comprehensive methodology for developing an ergonomic backrest by combining the features of two different backrests and incorporating the adjustability concept …

Posits: An Alternative To Floating Point Calculations, Matt Wagner
Posits: An Alternative To Floating Point Calculations, Matt Wagner
Theses
Floating point arithmetic is one of several methods of performing computations in digital designs; others include integer and fixed point computations. Fixed point utilizes a method comparable to scientific notation in the binary domain. In terms of computations, floating point is by far the most prevalent in today’s digital designs. Between the support offered by compilers, as well as for ready-to-use IP blocks, floating point units (FPU’s) are a de-facto standard for most processors. Despite its prevalence in modern designs, floating point has many flaws. One of the most common is the use of not-a-numbers (NaN’s). These are meant to …

Theses
Live speech transcription and captioning are important for the accessibility of deaf and hard of hearing individuals, especially in situations with no visible ASL translators. If live captioning is available at all, it is typically rendered in the style of closed captions on a display such as a phone screen or TV and away from the real conversation. This can potentially divide the focus of the viewer and detract from the experience. This paper proposes an investigation into an alternative, Augmented Reality driven approach to the display of these captions, using deep neural networks to compute, track and associate deep …
Divide And Conquer In Neural Style Transfer For Video, Paul Galatic
Divide And Conquer In Neural Style Transfer For Video, Paul Galatic
Theses
Neural Style Transfer is a class of neural algorithms designed to redraw a given image in the style of another image, traditionally a famous painting, while preserving the underlying details. Applying this process to a video requires stylizing each of its component frames, and the stylized frames must have temporal consistency between them to prevent flickering and other undesirable features. Current algorithms accommodate these constraints at the expense of speed.
We propose an algorithm called Distributed Artistic Videos and demonstrate its capacity to produce stylized videos over ten times faster than the current state-of-the-art with no reduction in output quality. …

Gait Generation For Damaged Hexapods Using Genetic Algorithm, Justin Kon
Theses
This paper discusses the design and implementation of a Genetic Algorithm for the generation of gaits compensating for system damage on the joint level of a hexapod system. The hexapod base used for this algorithm consists of six three degree of freedom legs on a rectangular body. The purpose of this algorithm is to generate a gait such that when N motors become inoperable, as detected by the robot’s internal software, the system is able to continue moving about its environment. While algorithms like this have been implemented before, the generated gaits are a sequence of discrete foot positions. This …
Conceptions Of Refactoring: An Investigation Of Stack Overflow Posts, Steven David Simmons
Conceptions Of Refactoring: An Investigation Of Stack Overflow Posts, Steven David Simmons
Theses
Refactoring is a common activity in software development. Developers make changes in the code in order to achieve a desired effect such as better performance, conformance to new business rules, or the removal of code anti-patterns such as code smells. However, refactoring operations often fail to achieve the results that are expected of them. There have been many studies conducted to assess their impact and effectiveness in different scenarios, but they have not returned consistent results. At times, studies have even shown decreasing and increasing in code quality from the same operation.
This study investigated whether a common set of …

High-Capacity Directional Graph Networks, Miguel Dominguez
High-Capacity Directional Graph Networks, Miguel Dominguez
Theses
Deep Neural Networks (DNN) have proven themselves to be a useful tool in many computer vision problems. One of the most popular forms of the DNN is the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). The CNN effectively learns features on images by learning a weighted sum of local neighborhoods of pixels, creating filtered versions of the image. Point cloud analysis seems like it would benefit from this useful model. However, point clouds are much less structured than images. Many analogues to CNNs for point clouds have been proposed in the literature, but they are often much more constrained networks than the typical …

Gender And Fluid: A Reconsideration Of The Stain In The Painting Of Helen Frankenthaler, Michael F. Hogan
Gender And Fluid: A Reconsideration Of The Stain In The Painting Of Helen Frankenthaler, Michael F. Hogan
Theses
This paper explores the stain technique of Helen Frankenthaler through a reconsideration of its novelty and innovation. Recent scholarship has assessed the technique and its critical acceptance through a primarily feminist lens, focused on either assessment of the gendered language utilized by critics or application of a uniquely feminist approach in determining its meaning. The singular focus applied in recent criticism is consistent with past approaches that have typically isolated a particular methodology – formalistic, technical, comparative, or historical – to the exclusion of broader consideration of other methodologies. Moreover, prior critical efforts frequently limited analytical consideration to her groundbreaking …
