The major purpose of this curriculum is to develop positive attitudes in nonhandicapped children toward the handicapped. Public schools are mandated by law to include handicapped persons in their educational programs. The establishment of a kindergarten for gifted children on the campus of Lindenwood College, St. Charles, Missouri, created the need for a curriculum designed to meet the special strengths and weaknesses of those who would attend.

While these children often possessed advanced skills in reading and math, they were still five-year-olds with certain emotional, social and physical limitations due to their young age.

This paper concentrates on the reduction of substitution errors through the use of a graphically similar reflective drill in the oral reading of first graders. A reflective drill is a drill designed with a timed delayed response. The delayed response is designed to train the student to discriminate between the stimuli and respond correctly rather than quickly.

Presented here is an investigation to establish physical rationale for the acceptance by physicians of a new form of blocking device for radiotherapy. The focus of the investigation is on the percent dosage obtained in the penumbral regions created by 6 mm and 9 mm stepped-edge blocks, relative to a straight edge, when exposed to 1.25 and 18 MeV photons.

A thesis, for me, wasn't easy to produce. The embryonic ideas that led to its creation surfaced in the Fall of 1982. The Evaluation Of Models To Characterize Exposure Variation Due To Stress Birefringence In Pellicles, Charles Mondello

A study of stress birefringence in models of pellicles has been conducted. Models have been examined in terms of their isochromatic lines of stress. The intensity variations in exposure due to these lines has been characterized for a pellicle model under diametral compression. It has been found that exposure variation due to pellicle stress birefringence is below one percent.

The Effects Of Benzotriazole In A Photographic Developer On The Covering Power Of An Emulsion, Kenneth Carlson

Benzotriazole in a photographic developer has been determined to increase covering power. This is accompanied by a decrease in photographic speed proportional to the increase in covering power. Benzotriazole decreases the rate of development when measured by mass of silver developed, but may increase the rate of development when measured by density at D-max exposures because of the increase in covering power. The effect of benzotriazole on image color has also been determined. Possible explanations for effects are given.

A Mathematical Model For A Reversible Tri-Layer Optical Memory Disk, Ariel Shaw

A research project has been performed, in which a mathematical model for a reversible tri -layer optical memory disk was generated. The disk's reversiblity properties are based on the polycryst aline to amorphous physical phase transition that takes place in the disk's top chalcogenide layer. Given the disk's defining parameters, complex indices of refraction, and layer thicknesses, the model predicts the disks output in terms of a contrast ratio. The output, the contrast ratio, is simply the reflectivity of the chalcogenide in its amorphous state divided by the reflectivity of the chalcogenide material in its polycrystaline state.

Color variation with respect to dot misregister is a phenomenon that has long been observed in the color printing industry. In this paper the relationship between dot misregister and color change in dot-on-dot multicolor halftone printing has been investigated for the additive primaries red, green and blue. By measuring the color difference between in and out-of-register dots the direction of color shift and its magnitude can be determined along with the decrease in lightness of out-of-register samples. The mesh has been an interference factor in the making of close tolerance high resolution screen printing stencils. Radiation strikes the surface of the threads and is reflected into the light sensitive emulsion causing a deterioration in the sharpness of the stencil edge. This problem has been largely overcome by the introduction of dyed mesh. However, by purposely exploiting the reflective properties of the mesh, a random, or irregular pattern of dots can be produced. A research project has been completed, in which experiments involving temperature and humidity were performed on 3M experimental microfilm samples. The experiments dealt with humidity levels usual to file storage conditions and elevated temperatures to allow for accelerated aging studies. Arrhenius plots were used to extrapolate the results obtained to normal room temperatures. The data obtained indicated that the film has a life expectancy of 62 years at 30% relative humidity and 53 years at 50% when stored at 24 C.

Thick, free-standing, gold Fresnel zone plates were fabricated and tested for use as coded apertures for imaging 100 keV x-rays and 6 MeV and 10 MeV protons. Reactive Ion Etching and gold microplating techniques were extended to "thick" structures, to fabricate gold zone plates 75 um thick, with 30 um minimum zone width. Techniques were developed for using high efficiency, high resolution nuclear track detectors to record protons and produce suitable contrast shadowgraphs from the etched nuclear track detectors.
