Software Simulation Of Mc68000, Ramakrishnan Iyer
Software Simulation Of Mc68000, Ramakrishnan Iyer
Theses
The introduction of the Motorola MC68000 family of microprocessors ushered in a new era of microprocessors. These are single-chip microprocessors designed to function as the central processing units of sophisticated computer systems. The prime objective of this thesis work is to develop a simulator for the MC68000 microprocessor mainly for educational purposes. The simulator would help in any test or research work utilizing 68000 assembly programs in the future. Most of the instructions in the 68000 family are implemented. Both the user mode and supervisory mode programs can be written and run against the simulator. Besides supporting most of the …
The Contributions Of Linn Boyd Benton And Morris Fuller Benton To The Technology Of Typesetting And Typeface Design, Patricia Cost
The Contributions Of Linn Boyd Benton And Morris Fuller Benton To The Technology Of Typesetting And Typeface Design, Patricia Cost
Theses
The relative obscurity of Linn Boyd Benton and Morris Fuller Benton, is investigated. The two men, father and son, made significant contributions to the technology of typesetting and to typeface design, yet they are not now well known in the industry. Linn Boyd Benton invented a pantographic punch-cutting machine, which he later modified to engrave matrices. This machine made the Linotype machine practical, since it took the tedium and great expense out of the making of Linotype 'mats.' Benton's machine was and still is used at the American Type Founders Company, and was copied for use at type founding companies …
Pmos Digital Structures, Robert Pearson
Pmos Digital Structures, Robert Pearson
Theses
A majority of new integrated circuit designs are being fabricated in CMOS technology which uses both pMOSFETs and nMOSFETS. The nMOSFETS have been well characterized over the past few years whereas the pMOSFETs have been ignored since MOS technology moved to nMOS in the early 70 's. Investigation of pMOS devices will provide information that will be useful for other technologies such as CMOS. This paper looks at the design, fabrication, fabrication simulation, electrical characterization, electrical simulation and testing of digital pMOSFET circuits. A particular emphasis will be placed on understanding the process so that first time integrated circuit processors …
Leading The Electronics Industry Into Total Automation, George P. Rossi
Leading The Electronics Industry Into Total Automation, George P. Rossi
Theses
The introduction of an automated PCB facility in today's technological society still includes a people-oriented facility. The main thrust should be to develop Artificial Intelligence, then the incorporation of LANS, CAD, ICAM, and CIM.
The ability to lace all the functions together is by far the biggest obstacle. The hardware of the equipment is not so much the obstacle to the chemical process and knowledge as the software. Software, which is the capability to talk from the computer to the equipment, is the greatest stumbling block because there is no standardization in the language format.
The method which a computer …

Does Teaching First Grade Students About Their Personal Learning Styles Improve Their Self-Concepts?, Jacquelyn Achurch
Does Teaching First Grade Students About Their Personal Learning Styles Improve Their Self-Concepts?, Jacquelyn Achurch
Theses
Research on learning style based instruction has indicated its importance as a valuable tool for academic success, and improved self- concept has been viewed as a by- product of this success . Additional research has labelled self-concept as a noncognitive correlate of learning style . The relationship between knowledge of one's personal learning style and self-concept has needed to be explored. Yet, very few studies about the effect on self-concept, after being taught about ones learning style, have been conducted . Hemispheric dominance and modality preferences are formed at an early age with self- concept also being fairly well-shaped before …

Theses
This research has explored the possibility of determining the optimum black and white photographic print characteristics for paper surface, image color, and contrast to achieve optimum reproduction from that original for a given set of printing press conditions utilizing single impression offset lithography.
A random population of 101 observers evaluated the reproduction of eighteen different photographic prints of the same subject from the identical film negative. The prints varied in contrast grades from grade one to grade three; in image color from warm black to neutral black to cool black; in surface characteristics from glossy to semi-lustre to matte; and …
Emulsification Rate Of Sheet-Fed Offset Ink And Its Effect On Printed Quality, Qingyi Chen
Emulsification Rate Of Sheet-Fed Offset Ink And Its Effect On Printed Quality, Qingyi Chen
Theses
This thesis is a study of Surland's Emulsification Method, and is intended to demonstrate the effect of change in emulsification rate curve with different types of fountain solution whose surface tension was varied. The surface tension of a fountain solution can be changed by the addition of isopropyl alcohol. Two inks were modified to produce the same tack reading but a different emulsification capacity. Using the Surland method the two inks and two fountain solutions generate four different emulsification rate curves and these four curves are tested for their effect on printed quality. The printing performance of an ink is …
Analysis Of Compliant Pins Subjected To Plastic Deformation, Lincoln Miller
Analysis Of Compliant Pins Subjected To Plastic Deformation, Lincoln Miller
Theses
An experimental/numerical analysis of two types of compliant pins is presented: dynamic retention pins and cantilever pins. It is shown that there is a trade-off between the performances of both types of pins. For the same range of retention force, the cantilever pin, with a smaller stiffness, is more forgiving and gives a broader range of deflection. The dynamic retention pin is shown to be more reliable with time and replacement frequency, since it exhibits less plastic deformation for the same range of retention force.
Imaging Land/Water Demarcation Lines For Coastal Mapping, Kirk Smedley
Imaging Land/Water Demarcation Lines For Coastal Mapping, Kirk Smedley
Theses
The objective of this research has been to improve upon the imaging methods currently used by the Photogrammetry Branch of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, for locating coastal boundaries. In keeping with this objective, a near-infrared radiometer/exposure meter has been developed and constructed. This device gives f -number and shutter speed values for a given scene radiance in the near-infrared region, and the aerial camera may then be set at these values for proper exposure. As an addendum to the research, a simple image processing technique, color ratioing, has been applied to demarcation photography with extremely promising results. Using …

Black & White Continuous Tone Printing Using Multiple Negative Working Plates, So That Each Plate Prints An Equal Segment Of A Determined Density Range, Frank C. Forti
Theses
Continuous tone printing, either collotype or screenless lithography, are processes that are in limited use. The halftone method of reproduction is still the most economical way to reproduce a continuous tone original. This study dealt with the mechanism of screenless lithography, more specifically on how to make the use of negative working plates a feasible alternative to positive working plates. It is known that the positive working plate can print a longer range of tones than a negative working plate. So the main point of the experiment dealt with how to extend the range of a negative working plate. A …

The Relationship Between Average Color Difference And 3-Channel Colorimetric Quality Factor For A Simple Additive Color System, Stefan Pabst
Theses
Neugebauer's Colorimetric Quality Factor for a simple additive color reproduction system is calculated for 17 detector response functions. Each response function is used to simulate the reproduction of 124 colors and 774 metameric grays. The mean color difference between original and reproduced colors is calculated for colors and metamers for each detector response. The relationship between mean color difference and colorimetric Quality factor is studied.

Computer Vision Of A Moving Square Using A Two-Level Data Hierarchy, David Zokaites
Theses
An investigation of the relative speed and effectiveness of two computer vision algorithms has been conducted. One algorithm incorporates a two-level data hierarchy. The other incorporates a one-level hierarchy and serves as a relatively conventional basis for comparison. The computer vision algorithms, programmed in Fortran, detect and recognize a moving square. Both computer vision algorithms could readily be implemented in existing hardware. The two-level algorithm was found to be up to 90% faster than the one-level algorithm. An analysis was made of elapsed CPU time variance as a function of time of day and user load. This was done to …

Spectrophotometric Studies Of Individual Components Of A Cupric Chloride Etchant Used In Printed Wiring Board Manufacturing Processes, Christine Mee
Spectrophotometric Studies Of Individual Components Of A Cupric Chloride Etchant Used In Printed Wiring Board Manufacturing Processes, Christine Mee
Theses
A study was performed to develop an accurate, on-line method of determining the cuprous chloride concentration in a typical cupric chloride etcher. A technique was developed using the slope between two spectrophotometric absorption points produced by scanning a solution sample. An on-line monitor was developed to produce a faster and more accurate method of solution concentration control for a typical cupric chloride etching solution. Slope increased linearly with increasing cuprous concentration when the 535 and 560 nanometer bandwidth filter combination was used. Monitor accuracy was found to be independent of cupric concentration, hydrochloric acid concentration, and temperature over the cuprous …

Evaluation Of Flash And Fluorescent Sources With Respect To Recommended Ocular Exposure Thresholds, Mark Fairchild
Theses
A system was established for the evaluation of sources of optical radiation with respect to recommended ocular exposure limits. This system consists of a diode array radiometer calibrated for absolute radiometric measurements and software for the application of the currently accepted threshold limits for exposure to the various wavelengths of radiation. Absolute calibration of the array radiometer was accomplished to within 3 percent of values obtained by a conventional instrument. Day-to-day repeatability of the instrument indicates the possiblility of absolute calibration of the detector array responsivity for everyday use in the measurement of continuous sources to an accuracy of plus-or-minus …
