The outputs of the camera are compatible with an XYZ monitor, a standard TV monitor, and a computer workstation. Operation of the camera was demonstrated with a 160 x 244 image sensor producing an output on a standard TV monitor. Performance of the IR-TV camera system was investigated by evaluating CCD …
Investigation Of The Fluid Dynamics Of Bioprosthetic Heart Valves, Carol A. Calta
Investigation Of The Fluid Dynamics Of Bioprosthetic Heart Valves, Carol A. Calta
Theses
There is a strong connection between altered arterial blood flow and vascular disease. The presence of disturbed flow and/or excessive turbulence is an indication of an abnormality within the cardiovascular system. The examination of cardiovascular fluid dynamics provides insights into the working of the cardiovascular system and ways to improve the design of implantable bioprosthetic valve designs. This investigation examines the fluid flow of arterial systems, and ways to apply this knowledge to the valves implanted into patients.
This thesis involves an investigation of the testing of bioprosthetic valves within simulated left heart flow loops. These systems include pulse duplicators …

Performance Analysis Of A Dynamic Reservation Multichannel Local Area Network, Abubakar A. Ibrahim
Theses
A reservation multiaccess protocol. is proposed to be used on multichannel local area networks. This protocol is advantageous for networks supporting integrated services. The delay and throughput performance for message transmission are obtained by analysist The delay performance of the protocol is similar to the M-CSMA/CD/IC multichannel network proposed by Marsan and Roffinella. It is found that the reservation protocol can provide better throughput-delay characteristics when the fraction of the total available bandwidth allocated to data is increased. It is also observed that the maximum throughput increases with the increase in the number of channels when the total bandwidth is …
Analytical And Experimental Study Of Robotic Peg-In-Hole Insertion, Yilun Jia
Analytical And Experimental Study Of Robotic Peg-In-Hole Insertion, Yilun Jia
Theses
A mathematical model of robotic peg-in-hole insertion, which relates insertion force and moment to manipulator compliance and geometric constraints, is presented. Based on this model, the effects of manipulator compliance and geometric and positional parameters on the insertion are studied. The complete expressions for determining the insertion forces and moment as well as the peg kinematics are derived. The study is helpful to reducing insertion force and moment and avoiding possible jamming during the insertion process. The model is verified experimentally on the IBM 7540 robot.
The Design Of Decentralized Optimal Regulator Systems Using Matrix Minimum Principle, Sunny Lai Yick
The Design Of Decentralized Optimal Regulator Systems Using Matrix Minimum Principle, Sunny Lai Yick
Theses
This research considers the design of linear, time-varying regulator systems using Matrix Minimum Principle in the frame work of decentralized control theory. The regulator system is modeled in terms of state equation with multiple controllers. Each controller works cooperatively to optimize a common quadratic performance index. An additional constraint is imposed such that the controllers are linear time-varying functions of the outputs.
Necessary and sufficient conditions for optimality of the system are provided by the Matrix Minimum Principle and Hamilton-Jacobi Theory.
Two examples are developed to illustrate the concept.

An Art Therapy Program For Women Who Are Chemically Dependent And/Or Victims Of Domestic Violence: A Training Manual, Mary H. Cook
Theses
Women who are chemically dependent and/or victims of domestic violence have difficulty identifying and expressing feelings. One of the most important aspects of recovery is learning to feel again and to talk a bout feelings.
Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy in which the therapist utilizes visual expression as a means of communication. The most common traits of these clients are low self-esteem, depression, anger, and a sense of helplessness . By making the issues symbolic, art therapy facilitates communication and reduces confusion.
This study presents an overview of art therapy, and a training manual is included for therapists …
Distributed Object-Oriented Discrete Event Simulation, Barbara Hendry
Distributed Object-Oriented Discrete Event Simulation, Barbara Hendry
Theses
This paper presents criteria for an 'ideal' simulation language, compares four traditional simulation languages to this ideal and concludes that an object-oriented approach to simulation comes closer to the ideal than the traditional procedural approach. It also examines how the object-oriented approach can be very beneficial for distributing a simulation problem among several machines. A distributed object-oriented package is described and a manufacturing example written and explained using this package.

Theses
A method to detect and quantify polymerase chain reaction (PCR) product from a DNA target fragment associated with Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) was developed. The current method to detect PCR product is by Agarose Gel Electrophoresis and staining with ethidium bromide, but quantitation is by the operator's estimation. As a result of this project, the PCR product can be detected by High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and the amount of product can be determined by using an internal standard. By detection of the PCR product on the HPLC and subsequent quantitation, the efficiency of the PCR can be determined. Samples …
Automated Boundary Detection Of Echocardiograms, Rolando Raqueño
Automated Boundary Detection Of Echocardiograms, Rolando Raqueño
Theses
Two-dimensional echocardiograms of the left ventricle of the heart have been used to produce three-dimensional wire frame reconstructions of the inner wall of the left ventricle chamber. Currently, this process is accomplished by tracing the boundary of the images manually after applying simple image processing algorithms. This manual interaction is a very tedious and time consuming step in the three-dimensional and four-dimensional reconstruction process. It would be desirable to remove as much operator interaction as possible from the process to improve repeatability and decrease throughput time.
This thesis investigated and implemented several basic and novel image processing algorithms which automatically …

The Relationship Between The Number Of Sexual Harassment Incidents Reported In The Manufacturing Industry And Personnel Administrators' Knowledge Concerning The Problem, Brenda J. Willenborg
Theses
This thesis focuses on sexual harassment in the workplace and how it relates to personnel administrators' knowledge thereof.
As sexual harassment claims rise, businesses suffer tremendous financial loss. However, most researchers believe that many claims could be prevented if businesses implemented strong anti-sexual harassment policies, in addition to education and training for all employees. Personnel administrators are often assigned these difficult tasks without much thought as to how well-informed they may be about sexual harassment. If not very knowledgeable themselves, how practicable will their prevention programs be?
The purpose of this study is to determine whether there is a relationship …
