A Study Of Aircraft Lateral Dynamics & Ground Stability, Howard Brott
A Study Of Aircraft Lateral Dynamics & Ground Stability, Howard Brott
Theses
The stability of an aircraft on the runway is dependent on many factors. In this thesis, a mathematical model is developed that allows the ground stability and lateral dynamics of an aircraft to be analyzed while it is in the process of taking off or landing. Only two degrees-of-freedom will be considered: lateral displacement and angular rotation. Equations of motion for the model are developed using Newtonian mechanics. The major components of the aircraft that are included in the model are the main landing gear, the vertical tail, and the tail wheel. The model is developed into both linear and …
Analysis Of Heterogeneity Of Variance Using Anome On Ln S^2, Casey Volino
Analysis Of Heterogeneity Of Variance Using Anome On Ln S^2, Casey Volino
Theses
When n replicates are available from a factorial experiment, several methods exist for testing the validity of the assumption of equal variances within the "cells" or treatment combinations of the experiment. A new test is proposed for variances of random samples believed to be from normal populations. This new test combines both the familiar graphical analysis of means for treatment effects (ANOME) and the analysis of the logarithms of the within-group variances to produce a graphical display of the test for variance homogeneity. To determine robustness of the proposed test against departures from the underlying normality assumption, this new test …
Localized Temporal Decorrelation For Video Compression, Dinesh Nadarajah
Localized Temporal Decorrelation For Video Compression, Dinesh Nadarajah
Theses
Many of the current video compression algorithms perform analysis and coding operations in a block-wise manner. Most of them use a motion compensated DCT algorithm as the basis. Many other codecs, mostly academic and in their infancy and known as Second Generation techniques, utilize region and contour based and model based techniques. Unfortunately, these second-generation methods have not been successful in gaining widespread acceptance in both the standards and the consumer world. Many of them require specialized computationally intensive software and/or hardware. Due to these shortcomings, current block based methods have been finetuned to get better performance at even very …
Coarse-Grained Parallel Genetic Algorithms: Three Implementations And Their Analysis, Daniel Pedersen
Coarse-Grained Parallel Genetic Algorithms: Three Implementations And Their Analysis, Daniel Pedersen
Theses
Although solutions to many problems can be found using direct analytical methods such as those calculus provides, many problems simply are too large or too difficult to solve using traditional techniques. Genetic algorithms provide an indirect approach to solving those problems. A genetic algorithm applies biological genetic procedures and principles to a randomly generated collection of potential solutions. The result is the evolution of new and better solutions. Coarse-Grained Parallel Genetic Algorithms extend the basic genetic algorithm by introducing genetic isolation and distribution of the problem domain. This thesis compares the capabilities of a serial genetic algorithm and three coarse-grained …

Image Compression Using Noncausal Prediction, J. F. Marchand
Image Compression Using Noncausal Prediction, J. F. Marchand
Theses
Image compression commonly is achieved using prediction of the value of pixels from surrounding pixels. Normally the choice of pixels used in the prediction is restricted to previously scanned pixels. A better prediction can be achieved if pixels on all sides of the pixel to be predicted are used. A prediction and decoding method is proposed that is independent of scanning order of the image. The decoding process makes use of an iterative decoder. A sequence of images is generated that converges to a final image that is identical to the original image. The theory underlying noncausal prediction and iterative …

Lempel Ziv Welch Data Compression Using Associative Processing As An Enabling Technology For Real Time Application, Manish Narang
Lempel Ziv Welch Data Compression Using Associative Processing As An Enabling Technology For Real Time Application, Manish Narang
Theses
Data compression is a term that refers to the reduction of data representation requirements either in storage and/or in transmission. A commonly used algorithm for compression is the Lempel-Ziv-Welch (LZW) method proposed by Terry A. Welch[l]. LZW is an adaptive, dictionary based, lossless algorithm. This provides for a general compression mechanism that is applicable to a broad range of inputs. Furthermore, the lossless nature of LZW implies that it is a reversible process which results in the original file/message being fully recoverable from compression. A variant of this algorithm is currently the foundation of the UNIX "compress" program. Additionally, LZW …

The Investigation Of Light-Stability Of Color Proofing Materials, Kyu Kim
The Investigation Of Light-Stability Of Color Proofing Materials, Kyu Kim
Theses
Lightfastness is the permanence of a photograph, or any colored material, under the influence of light {Encyclopedia of Photography, Third Edition, p 438). Thus the lightfastness test is an investigation of changes, mainly in terms of density, of any colored materials due to light. From accelerated light-stability tests, information about the light stability of color prints can be obtained. To produce the desired amount of image fading, special lightstability test units equipped with high-intensity light sources, where test strips can be exposed for days, weeks, months, or even years, are required. The temperature of the samples and their moisture content …

The Study Of Using The Banded Anilox Roller For Color Matching In Flexography, Apichai Puvaravutipanich
Theses
Color matching is an important issue in the flexographic industry today because of many problems related to it. For example, there are few standards of ink and color for spot color printing. Further, there is no standardization in the communication among anilox roller suppliers and their customers concerning the specific cell volume measurement of the anilox roller. This research focused on the study of the use of the banded anilox roller as a tool for color proofing under the assumption that a spot color printed by the flexographic process actually should be produced using a banded anilox roller as a …
