The Use Of Customer Complaints As A Positive Attribute For Hotel Development: The Marriot Thruway Hotel, Rochester, Ny, Patcharin Buranabanyat
Theses
Criticisms can occur in a hotel all the time when customer expectations do not meet their perceptions. "When a hotel guest is dissatisfied, managing the heart of the problem is not always an easy task. There are many ways to collect information from customers regarding their dissatisfaction. Guest satisfaction survey data can be collected often, however, complaints are not fully used if they sit in a complaint-handling center, and not used as a feedback products to help the business improve itself. Some hotels do not pay enough attention to their customers; therefore, customer complaints are still occurring. Do hotels use …

Quest For Survival: What Comprises And Effective Team, Kathleen Brayer
Quest For Survival: What Comprises And Effective Team, Kathleen Brayer
Theses
The journey to thrive competitively in the millenium will demand teamwork. Historically, corporate America has had difficulty implementing teams to drive performance. In theory building effective teams seems easy but in reality putting this knowledge into practice that changes behavior and fosters learning is a difficult challenge for corporations today. Through a series of 13 interviews this study benchmarks both the service and manufacturing industry to identify the characteristics about what comprises an effective team in organizations today, how their organizational design impacts team development and the different ways that people learn, think about and understand teams in organizations. Developing …

Customer Service Goes To College, Donald Hudspeth
Theses
The purpose of this study was to determine if there is a feedback model that can be used to gather data from students that have shared a common educational experience at a college in Croatia. Historical data was researched on surveys, interviews, and focus groups in order to discover the characteristics of each. The characteristics were classified as either a strength or a weakness of each of the models. The operating constraints of the college were identified as the effect that cultural differences can play in the collection of data and the financial budget. After these constraints had been applied …

The survey polled the sample population over six technical areas: transmission ,file transfer …
Evaluation Of Stepwise Spectral Unmixing With Hydice Data, Daniel Newland
Evaluation Of Stepwise Spectral Unmixing With Hydice Data, Daniel Newland
Theses
Images of ground scenes have a tradeoff between spatial and spectral resolution. Sensors with fine spectral resolution sacrifice high spatial resolution. A hyperspectral image has tens to hundreds of bands of spectral information, which can potentially be used to increase understanding of the spatial content of a scene despite resolution limitations. While some pixels in an image could be identified as "trees" or "roads," for example, a number of pixels will be mixed, containing two or more material classes. The process called unmixing calculates the fractional presence of those predetermined materials. A new statistics-based stepwise unmixing routine has recently been …
Simulation Of Spectra Signatures Of Chemical Leachates From Landfills, Jason Hamel
Simulation Of Spectra Signatures Of Chemical Leachates From Landfills, Jason Hamel
Theses
Chemical leachates from landfills can turn into dangerous hazards if they are not identified and properly disposed. Currently, these chemicals are identified in the laboratory with samples hand collected from contaminated sites. This is economical for small sites but quickly gets expensive and time consuming for larger facilities that can cover hundreds of acres or multiple sites. This study examines the feasibility of using new hyperspectral detectors and computer processing to autonomously identify the presence of these leachates and greatly simplifying the monitoring process for these large sites. The effect of even low concentrations of many chemicals requires the identification …
Noise Reduction In Digital Images, Lana Jobes
Noise Reduction In Digital Images, Lana Jobes
Theses
As the popularity of digital cameras increases, some limitations of digital technology are becoming apparent. One limitation is the appearance of additive noise in images acquired using long exposure times. Long exposure times are necessary any time you need to take an image in conditions that have a low level of illumination. Pictures taken at night, in a large room such as an auditorium, or forensics images are examples of times when a long exposure time is necessary. This research project has resulted in the development of a technique to reduce the additive noise present in these images. The first …

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) microscopy is magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) on a small scale. The purpose of this study was to develop an NMR microscope capable of producing tomographic images of 5 mm objects. The microscope was developed around an existing Bruker 300 MHz NMR spectrometer with a three orthogonal axis gradient coil set. Computer code for generating tomographic images was written and images were obtained of various standard test objects, referred to as phantoms. Phantoms were created to mathematically evaluate and document features such as in-plane resolution, and slice thickness. An in-plane resolution of 118 μm and a slice …
The Wavelength Dependence Of The Yule-Nielsen Factor, Joseph Janiak
The Wavelength Dependence Of The Yule-Nielsen Factor, Joseph Janiak
Theses
A common problem in the printing industry today is optical dot gain. Optical dot gain is popularly thought to be caused by light scatter in paper 1. Another name for the scattering of light in a paper substrate is the Yule - Nielsen effect. The Yule-Nielsen effect is described in the following equation: R(1/n) = Fo Ri (1/n) + ( 1 - Fo) Rp (1/n) ( 1 ) This research involves studying the n factor of this equation. This factor is an index of the amount of optical dot gain and is highly correlated with the scattering coefficient of the …

Fingerprint Recognition Through Circular Sampling, David Chang
Fingerprint Recognition Through Circular Sampling, David Chang
Theses
The uniqueness of the human fingerprint is considered to be one of the most reliable characteristics for personal identification. Considering that we leave them on nearly all of the surfaces we touch, they become valuable to those in law enforcement for identifying perpetrators of a crime. However, the matching of a single fingerprint with the millions that have been cataloged proves to be a difficult task. This study presents an alternate method to fingerprint recognition by way of a spatial re-sampling of the pattern through concentric circles. With this approach, the concentric circular samples have rotation invariant features while a …
Extracting The Mystery From The Red Rectangle, Meghan Canning
Extracting The Mystery From The Red Rectangle, Meghan Canning
Theses
This paper reports on the use of point spread function fitting to model, and ultimately remove a stellar object from spectrophotometric images of an emission nebula called the Red Rectangle. In an effort to produce a semblance of the extended emission, the central star of the nebulosity is removed from images of the Red Rectangle nebula at three specific wavelengths. The nebular spectrum of the Red Rectangle reveals optical emission at particular wavelengths in the red region, and virtually no emission by around 500 nm. If a point spread function can be accurately fit to an image where no emission …
