Macroscale Thermal Modelling For The Molten Metal Droplet Jetting Additive Manufacturing Process, Khushbu Zope
Macroscale Thermal Modelling For The Molten Metal Droplet Jetting Additive Manufacturing Process, Khushbu Zope
Theses
Molten Metal Jetting (MMJ) has become a promising pathway for next-generation metal additive manufacturing because it avoids the need for powders or high-power energy sources and enables precise, drop-on-demand deposition of structural alloys. Despite this promise, the field lacks a predictive thermal modeling framework that can describe the full temperature history of a part as thousands of droplets accumulate. Without such a model, it is difficult to control heat buildup, to understand how bonding conditions evolve across layers, and to avoid defects such as incomplete fusion, porosity, and geometrical distortion. This dissertation presents the first validated macroscale thermal modeling framework …
Integrated Machine Learning For Smart Home Resource Optimization, Ahmed Almazrouei
Integrated Machine Learning For Smart Home Resource Optimization, Ahmed Almazrouei
Theses
This thesis explores howmachine learning can be used to support better energy management in smart homes. Many smart home systems today collect a large amount of data through sensors and smart meters, but they still depend on simple rules and do not make predictive or automatic decisions. In the academic field, energy forecasting and energy optimization are often studied separately, which creates a gap in understanding how the two components can work together in a real setting. Because of this, there is a need to test an integrated approach that uses both forecasting and optimization in one framework. In this …

A Machine Learning Framework For Forecasting Passenger Flow At Dubai International Airport, Khalifa Alfalasi
A Machine Learning Framework For Forecasting Passenger Flow At Dubai International Airport, Khalifa Alfalasi
Theses
The fast growth of global air travel made the accurate prediction of passenger flow a challenge for airport operations. Traditional forecasting models, like regression and SARIMA, have been useful in stable conditions but usually do not show the non-linear and dynamic changes driven by weather, infrastructure, and behaviour of passengers. Therefore, recent studies showed the potential of machine learning and big data to improve the accuracy of forecasting. However, most of the work is still limited to specific airports, datasets, or operations. This study develops a machine learning–based predictive framework for short-interval passenger throughput at Dubai International Airport. Using available …

An Examination Of High-Entropy Alternatives Of Connectionist Temporal Classification Loss For Optical Music Recognition Using Convolutional Recurrent Neural Networks, Hritik Saynganthone
An Examination Of High-Entropy Alternatives Of Connectionist Temporal Classification Loss For Optical Music Recognition Using Convolutional Recurrent Neural Networks, Hritik Saynganthone
Theses
The Connectionist Temporal Classification (CTC) loss function is the most commonly used loss function in the field of Optical Music Recognition (OMR). However, OMR suffers from a massive class imbalance problem, exacerbated by the fact that CTC loss is subject to the spiky distribution problem, wherein the blank token introduced by CTC is vastly overpredicted and appears in timesteps where it would make more sense to predict a non-blank token, since CTC will collapse repeated tokens into a single token. This work posits that alternative loss functions to CTC that optimize for an increase in entropy of the prior probability …

Hyaluronic Acid Loaded With Aloe Vera-Derived Extracellular Vesicles: A New Bioactive Approach For Fibrotic Scarring, Maria Camila Ceballos Santa
Theses
Disruptions in wound healing can result in pathological outcomes ranging from chronic nonhealing wounds to excessive fibrotic scarring. Hypertrophic scars and keloids are hallmarks of this dysregulation, characterized by abnormal collagen deposition, persistent myofibroblast activation, and disorganized extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling. Chronic inflammation and oxidative stress play central roles by increasing reactive oxygen species (ROS), which damage essential macromolecules and sustain pro-inflammatory signaling, while promoting the transdifferentiation of fibroblasts into myofibroblasts and the excessive production of ECM proteins, such as collagen and α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA). This fibrotic cascade leads to tissue stiffness, contractility, and disfigurement, affecting the well-being of …

Rubbing Away Respect: How Repeated Touch Alters The Meaning Of Women’S Statues, Olivea Kittrell
Rubbing Away Respect: How Repeated Touch Alters The Meaning Of Women’S Statues, Olivea Kittrell
Theses
This thesis examines how repeated public interactions with statues of women, particularly the ritualized rubbing of their breasts, alter both the material surfaces and symbolic meanings of statues. We will focus on three bronze sculptures: the Molly Malone statue in Dublin, the Juliet statue in Verona, and the Bust of Dalida in Paris. Through these, we will investigate how statues created with commemorative intent become sites of sexualized behavior based on gender. The problem this thesis addresses is the lack of scholarly analysis on how gendered public interaction physically and symbolically transforms statues of women. While some scholarship covers either …

Frameworks Of Genius: Fresco, Labor, Scaffolding, And Patronage In The Making Of Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel Ceiling, Jackelyn Eileen Adkins
Theses
This thesis examines how the materiality of production and the patronage of Pope Julius II influenced the visual and conceptual outcome of Michelangelo’s ceiling frescoes in the Sistine Chapel. It argues the physical demands of the fresco medium, the architectural constraints of the chapel, and the material infrastructure, such as the pigments, scaffolding, and spatial dynamics related to the political, theological, and ideological imperatives of papal authority. The materials served as a symbolic extension of Pope Julius II’s ambitions, embedding his message directly into the frescoes. By foregrounding the complex web of labor and materials that supported the project, this …

Meshed Trees: A Framework For Resilient Network Algorithms And Protocols, Peter Willis
Meshed Trees: A Framework For Resilient Network Algorithms And Protocols, Peter Willis
Theses
The continued growth of computer networks in both size and complexity presents challenges for the control protocols that are tasked with maintaining optimal data-forwarding paths. These protocols commonly rely on shortest-path algorithms to determine where network data should be propagated and how it should be analyzed for inclusion in forwarding tables. However, problems arise during reconvergence, the process in which devices rediscover optimal paths following a network failure. Because control protocols were built decades ago for the networks of that era, the existing shortest-path algorithms utilized were designed for problems before the advent of modern computer networks. This resulted in …
