Mixed-halide wide-band gap perovskites are attractive for space power due to their high open-circuit voltages and compatibility with tandem device architectures, but their response to combined orbital stressors remains under-explored. Here, we study 1.86 eV band gap all-inorganic CsPbI2Br solar cells across a space-relevant thermal window of -80°C to +100°C before and after 1.0 M eV proton irradiation. n-i-p devices exhibit notable radiation tolerance retaining approximately 60% of initial power conversion efficiency (PCE) upon irradiation with a fluence of 5 × 10^13 cm^−2. Temperature-dependent hyperspectral photoluminescence imaging and spectroscopy uncover a reversible low-temperature emissive heterogeneity in the perovskite absorber, manifested …

Biofilms are the predominant lifestyle of microorganisms and offer protection against environmental stress. Archaeal biofilm development remains poorly understood relative to its bacterial counterpart, and the fundamental differences between these two domains prevent direct extrapolation from bacterial models. To address this gap, we used quantitative proteomics and transcriptomics to characterize the molecular changes accompanying biofilm formation and maturation in the model archaeon Haloferax volcanii. Protein and transcript abundance were measured across seven conditions spanning both lifestyles and multiple timepoints, with glycosylated proteoforms quantified as entities distinct from their unmodified counterparts, covering both established biofilm-associated structures and newly identified candidates. Human emotional communication involves subtle, low-intensity, and context-dependent expressions influenced by sociocultural and interpersonal factors. Their inherent ambiguity and variability create heterogeneous data distributions, making affective phenomena difficult to model in naturalistic settings where expressions differ from exaggerated affect behaviors in acted environments. Affective AI faces the fundamental challenge of balancing personalization, which captures individual nuances, with generalization, which ensures robustness of affective AI systems across individuals. Functional verification often takes more effort than designing the system itself, especially when the design departs from the synchronous, globally clocked style that verification tools assume. Asynchronous or clockless circuits are an example of this. They use local request and acknowledge handshaking instead of a global clock, which reduces dynamic power and eliminates clock-distribution and skew problems. RIT Dubai has aligned its sustainability targets with the UAE Net Zero 2050 initiative, and earlier greenhouse gas reporting identified commuting and electricity as the campus’s dominant emission sources, with transportation modelled only from city-level estimates. This thesis examines the collective psychological aftermath of de-industrialization in a rust belt city, processed through perspectives of nostalgia and betrayal. By reframing childhood memories of instability and inherited narratives, a framework is established for investigating the modalities through which love and attachment may obscure entangled harm, and how grief operates across both collective and personal registers. Found objects are situated as sites of projection where memories are abstracted and reconstituted. The processes of decay and weathering serve as analogues for psychological trauma, reframing deterioration as an inevitable and generative condition. This thesis develops and tests a repair-centered framework for relationship mechanics in narrative games, positioned as an alternative to the affection-meter model that reduces relationships to a single accumulating score. Drawing on eudaimonic media research, relational repair theory, and interpretive-attribution research, the framework argues that meaningful relationship play depends on tracking multiple, potentially divergent relational dimensions; distinguishing repair attempts from repair outcomes; modeling interpretation of player actions rather than fixed action-to-effect mappings; and treating stable, non-restorative endings as legitimate outcomes rather than failure states. The visual construction, enactment, and legitimization of political authority is the subject of this thesis concerning Charles I and Henrietta Maria with their two eldest children, Prince Charles and Princess Mary (1632), painted by Anthony Van Dyck. Through examination of sovereign representation, gendered body, dynastic continuity, and spectators, this research argues that authority within Northern Baroque portraiture is not established as a single or unchanging entity. However, instead of a monolithic representation of authority, it arises from relational elements, including body language, gesture, space, family relations, and viewer engagement. This thesis examines the ethical dimensions of Vietnam War photojournalism through close analysis of four iconic photographs: Nick Ut's The Terror of War (Napalm Girl) , Eddie Adams's Saigon Execution , Catherine Leroy's Vietnam, February 1967 , and Gilles Caron's Untitled (Who's the Enemy Here?) . Rather than treating these images as transparent documentation, this thesis argues that Vietnam War photojournalism functioned as a contested medium of narrative construction, one whose most celebrated images achieved iconic status by conforming to Western visual conventions and institutional demands, rather than by capturing some unmediated truth. Effective contrastive learning relies on choosing useful, informative "hard" negative samples. Current hard negative sampling methods designed for traditional artificial neural networks (ANNs) are, in general, computationally costly and are ill-suited to account for the temporal structure relevant to neuromorphic data. To tackle these issues, in this work, we formulate a similarity-guided semi-hard negative sampling strategy for neuromorphic computing based on spiking neural networks (SNNs). This dissertation investigates the intersection of topological data analysis and network science, applying and extending persistent homology, Betti numbers, and simpliciality measures to study temporal, evolving, and coevolving networked systems. We introduce a multi-layer zigzag persistent homology framework for analyzing temporal hypergraphs across multiple timescales simultaneously, and validate it on the DARPA Operationally Transparent Cyber dataset, where it produces topological signatures that distinguish malicious from benign network activity by source IP. Research in autonomous exploration has created many effective algorithms that have been tested and proven to work in many different virtual and physical environments. Many optimizations have also been developed to reduce computational effort and increase exploration speed.
However, despite optimizations, these algorithms can still require considerable computational effort and time to explore even small environments. Conventional frame-based CMOS image sensors acquire full-frame pixel data at discrete time intervals, resulting in substantial spatial redundancy and loss of temporal information between frames. The repeated conversion and transfer of redundant pixel data increases bandwidth and power consumption in machine vision systems. Retinomorphic sensing architectures address these limitations by enabling programmable, analog-domain processing directly at the sensor interface. Identifier naming is a core element of software engineering and program comprehension. While existing literature suggests that naming consistency is ideal, there is limited empirical data on identifier homonyms, instances where the same name is used for different behaviors. This thesis investigates these naming patterns through a manual analysis inspired by grounded theory, supported by static analysis with srcML across three open source projects in Java, C and Python. By establishing a behavioral framework through axial coding, this research classifies 771 identifiers into functional categories to document their presence and role within the code. This thesis emerges from that tension between protest and living. It considers what it means to have one’s existence continually framed as resistance, and how that condition reshapes embodiment, temporality, and identity. By situating my lived experience within broader social and political structures, I examine how bodily autonomy functions not only as a personal necessity, but as a regulated site of power. The work that follows investigates how queer and transgender bodies navigate visibility and risk, how time is warped through prolonged struggle, and how survival becomes a form of authorship.

What’s in it for us? examines how value can be created, abstracted, and redefined through material practice, participation, and shared experience. Situated in the space between maker and mender, the artist works in the symbiotic relationship between creation and repair. Wood is the primary material of creation, often in its imperfect form. It becomes both medium and metaphor representing intrinsic value while helping to challenge the systems that’s equate value with market and currency.
