This review describes the three common postpartum psychiatric syndromes, including postpartum blues, postpartum neurotic depression, and postpartum psychosis. It discusses both early and recent studies which have explored emotional and physical symptoms and differing views of 1 etiology. Etiological factors discussed include genetics, physiological abnormalities, predisposing psychological characteristics, maternal expectations, demographics, child temperament, neonatal risk, marital relationship, the new mother's relationship with her own mother, social support, and precipitating stressful life events.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of an individual's self-concept to their concept of God. Subjects were 62 volunteer undergraduate and graduate students from Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri. Subjects were administered the Spilka God-Image Semantic Differential and the Tennessee Self-Concept Scale. Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficients were obtained utilizing the scores of 60 subjects with valid scoring as well as with the scores of 31 1 subjects whose self-concept was above the mean. Adults between the ages of 65 and 90 were the subjects of a study to explore the relationship between depression and the variables of personal loss , support system, and perceived physical health . Thirty- four subjects completed a self- administered depression scale (the Geriatric Depression Scale) and a personal information sheet . The relationships between depression and perceived personal health was significant , as was the relationship between depression and the support system. The relationship between depression and loss was not significant . As one's perceived health became better , depression decreased . Likewise, as one's support system increased, …

This manuscript looks at the highly complex decisions concerning delayed parenthood for the over-30 contemporary woman. There has been a proliferation of popular literature on pregnancy and parenthood after thirty. Yet there is very little information and few resources which focus on the parenthood decision-making process. This workshop manual provides therapists and family planning consultants a vehicle by which to help women and couples over-thirty make reproductive decisions. The workshop was evaluated by 10 over-30 women who attended the workshop. The participants found the workshop to be a valuable experience.

In an investigation involving 43 residents of a children's residential treatment facility, communication styles were determined through correlation of data from three converging measures. The participants received commands ranging from unspoken gestures to direct oral instructions. Communication styles were determined through three measures: Physical responses to seven commands (CT), written responses to a variation of the Zajonc line test (LT), and a psychometric instrument (DIPT).

This project presents a history of occupational medicine and workers' compensation laws in the United States as a prelude to discussing the development of computer systems in occupational health. The history of a private corporate health service is outlined and the development of a management information system for that corporate health service is discussed. A computer instruction manual developed for the management information system is included. The results of an evaluation of the billing system, a major component of the management information system, indicate that the majority of the clients of the corporate health service are pleased with the system.

CRT (cathode ray tube) based, direct selection dialogs for computing machines and systems were apparently a cure for issues like ease of learning and ease of use. But unforeseen ~ and probably unforeseeable problems arose as increasingly sophisticated systems and dialogs were developed. This paper describes some of the emerging problems in CRT-based dialog design, develops theories about why they occur, and discusses potential solutions for them as a basis for future research. This investigation also provides a survey of the research into what makes programming and programming languages difficult, and what makes them simple.

A series of novel poly(ester-1m1de)s were prepared by the reaction of meta- and para-substituted trlmellltimide dicarboxylic diacid chlorides with various diols containing four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten and twelve methylene groups by a solution polymerization technique utilizing refluxing 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene as a solvent. The poly(ester-1mide)s were characterized by dilute solution viscosity, infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry and polarized light microscopy. A series of novel ordered poly(ester-imide)s were synthesized using both solution and melt polymerization techniques and their liquid crystal properties studied. Commercially available 6-aminohexanoic acid and 11-aminoundecanoic acid were reacted with 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic anhydride (PMDA) by a melt reactions to give -pyromellitimide dicarboxylic acid derivatives. These derivatives were treated with thionyl chloride to give -pyromellitimide dicarboxylic dichloride derivatives which were reacted with a series of diols having six, eight, nine, ten and twelve methylene units in their structural units by a solution polymerization technique, using refluxing 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene as solvent. This experiment was an extension of research begun by Alman, Berns, Snyder, and Larsen with the purpose of developing a large set of data on the perception of medium (industrial) size color difference. In the current phase of the research the same experimental procedures were followed. A total of 50 observers were asked to make pass-fail judgements of sample pairs in comparison to an anchor pair that was near neutral with a CIELAB color difference of 1.0 unit. A mathematical model has been developed for a continuous sterilization system where the role of suspended solids on the overall degree of sterilization achieved is taken into account. Evaluation of a "typical" commercial continuous sterilization system showed the role of suspended solids to have little effect on the overall sterilization obtained. For continuous sterilization systems operating in a total residence time of less than one minute, the role of solids may become important and should be evaluated.

Activated sludges acclimated with phenol and 2-chlorophenol in one case, and a mixture of benzene, toluene, and o, in and p-xylene in another case, were characterized for biodegradation of 2-chlorophenol and benzene, respectively. Activated sludge was obtained from the Parsippany-Troy Hills Water Pollution Control Plant (NJ).

For both cases colonies were isolated before acclimation, after acclimation, and at the end of biodegradation studies. Since the unacclimated group was the same in both cases, there were a total of five different groups for which characterization was carried out.
