Technology In The Late Twentieth Century: Humanism Versus Technocracy, A Philosophical Inquiry, Peter Moss Handler Jun 1983

Technology In The Late Twentieth Century: Humanism Versus Technocracy, A Philosophical Inquiry, Peter Moss Handler

Theses

As an artist in metal living and working in the last part of the twentieth century, I feel it to be important that my work relate to this specific period of time. That is, to look where we are going becomes more important than where we have been. The most powerful single influence on where we are going, in my judgment, is technology. The images of technology, not the things of it, become my starting place. My intent, however, is not merely to celebrate technology. That is an uncritical attitude.

The Operational Utility Of The Walton-Mckersie Attitudinal Structuring Model In Collective Bargaining, Donald Warren May 1983

The Operational Utility Of The Walton-Mckersie Attitudinal Structuring Model In Collective Bargaining, Donald Warren

Theses

This work is an heuristic inquiry into behavioral change theory designed for application to labor/management interaction in collective bargaining. The theory itself was postulated by Richard E. Walton and Robert B. McKersie in their book A Behavioral Theory Of Labor Negotiations. The principles of their theory are highly axiomatic and their importance and validity can only be recognized through applied empirical analyses that demonstrate or refute its concept.

The aspect of the theory which is the focal point of this research pertains to the structuring and restructuring of attitudes and attendant relationships resulting from the collective bargaining process. The objective …

A Study Of Personal Conflict And Stress Among Engineering Personnel As Influenced By Corporate Policy, Stated And Unstated, Richard Brian Gordon

Theses

The following concepts are being challenged: That organizations are efficient, well-managed, and intelligent: that if one is to believe in any sort of authority, one must first accept the notion that it truly knows best and that it is not only competent, but well-intentioned; that organizations exist for the benefit of their employees and customers; that organizations reward dedication, competence, and performance: that if the organization is to grow it needs loyal sacrificing people; that organizations are dynamic and receptive to change; that if the employee is discouraged, do not worry, for tomorrow will be better; that to be useful …

An Assessment Of Job Attitudes Held By Hourly Workers At A Food Processing Plant, Charles J. Sheahan May 1983

An Assessment Of Job Attitudes Held By Hourly Workers At A Food Processing Plant, Charles J. Sheahan

Theses

This study applied Vroom's instrumentality-valence model to an assessment of the overall job attitude of hourly workers at a food processing plant. The specific job factors relating to the formation of overall job attitude are described and the managerial implications of the results are discussed. A short discussion of the relationship of these employees' attitudes to Herzberg's motivation-hygiene theory is also presented.

The results of the study indicate a moderate degree of job satisfaction based on Vroom's model. Additionally, the correlations of specific instrumentality to specific valence give a strong indication that the subjects value rewards they perceive as attainable, …

The Right Mood, Mary Pat O'Brien May 1983

The Right Mood, Mary Pat O'Brien

Theses

Through this supportive documentation of my thesis work, I hope to verbally clarify the intentions mentioned in my proposal. Due to the subjective nature of abstract paintings, it is nearly impossible to conclusively prove a point. By referring to observations made by and about other artists and their work, I have been able to substantiate and complement my own ideas. I found evidence of what I interpreted to be the underlying attitude that is developed individually but shared collectively by artists. It seems this "shared attitude" has no geographic or time boundaries. It is remarkable to note parallels between the …

Emotion As Visual Image, Beth Buvarsky May 1983

Emotion As Visual Image, Beth Buvarsky

Theses

I intend to explore the importance of object and image as symbols that visually express emotion. I am interested in the human condition and the influences and impressions that cause us to see things the way we do. Through the transformation of feelings and forms, I hope to relate emotional responses to situations we find ourselves in. I plan to use holloware techniques within a sculptural format, possibly combined with clay and other materials to achieve these images.
