Baby Bidet, Lei Hong Apr 2015

Baby Bidet, Lei Hong

Theses

This thesis introduces a unique childcare product named Baby Bidet for babies and young couples. Most infants defecate four to six times and urinate ten times daily. The most commonly used product to contain these substances is a diaper. The problem is that diapers spreads feces across a baby’s bottom and thus frequently cause diaper rash. When parents clean the feces from their babies’ bottom, many of them feel disturbed.

This project, in part through market research, has gathered a lot of information about diapers, diaper rash, baby wipes, the process of changing diapers, and so on. Moreover, in order …

Good Kids, Bad City: The Examination Of Crime Resistance In Low Income, High Crime, Communities Of Color, Troy M. Williams

However, less is known about men of color who grow up in lower socioeconomic neighborhoods, but do not commit crimes. In this study, the researcher examines a group of Black men who exhibited leadership to resist assimilated criminological behavior, which is the process of participating in crime in order to be revered by peers, family, or community members. …

We consider the political affiliations and ideals of nationalism of these two men and those artists crucial to both movements. The issue of the crisis of modernity is discussed, and how both art movements react to, and are products of this crisis. Through early writings, compositions, poems, …

“Within”, Christine M. Caswell Apr 2015

“Within”, Christine M. Caswell

Theses

"Within" is my investigation into the relationship between interior and exterior spaces. I explore the mystery of the inner hidden spaces, both physical and metaphorical. I draw inspiration from organic forms, particularly the body and transitions from outer surfaces to internal spaces. My sculpture is not intended to be a literal representation of the body or other natural forms but instead remains abstract and ambiguous. Outer surfaces curl and fold to become inside spaces; openings reveal hidden structure within.

The sculptures constructed for the thesis exhibition are hand built utilizing primarily coil construction. Each piece was constructed with a particular …

Psychology's Ontology As Antinomy, Kevin Rice Mar 2015

Psychology's Ontology As Antinomy, Kevin Rice

Theses

The field of psychology has historically been fragmented in terms of what the discipline takes to be the ontological makeup of psychological phenomena, resulting in an unsatisfactory disunity within the discipline’s intra/interdisciplinary cohesiveness as a science of mental health/illness.2 The present project argues that this disunity can framed within the implacable empirical debate between naturalists and non-naturalists concerning the metaphysical status of consciousness (the very thing that experiences such phenomena). In offering a way past this explanatory impasse, I contend that a path towards discerning a unified ontology for psychology can be discerned in understanding consciousness’s ontological status as a …

According to a relatively new OSHA ruling for residential construction, fall protection equipment is mandatory when working at heights of six feet or more. However, lack of ease in using equipment, workers' attitude towards safety equipment and sometimes discomfort in usage of the equipment create obstacles in facilitating the use of fall protection equipment. The difficulty in adopting fall protection equipment has been studied by using scaled models to simulate the actual work …

Risk Processing, Affect, And Efficacy In Online Privacy Behavior, Michael Shreeves Jan 2015

Risk Processing, Affect, And Efficacy In Online Privacy Behavior, Michael Shreeves

Theses

Cybersecurity research has indicated that people use simple heuristics to assess online privacy risk. Online warnings typically operate by encouraging systematic risk processing. A review of the literature on risk perception suggested that negative emotional affect produced by risk descriptions can both increase systematic processing and independently increase perceived risk. A review of fear appeals in health behavior research suggested that risk communications that produce fear will be rejected if an effective behavioral response recommendation is not provided. This study investigated the (a) impact of emotional vividness in warning descriptions and (b) response information presence on disclosure of a single …

Are Employee Assistance Programs An Effective Mechanism For Preventing, Managing And Alleviating Stress In The Workplace?, Carol O'Keeffe

Theses

According to the EAP Institute (2015), the rise in litigation related to occupational illnesses in the 1980’s has spurred companies to take employee health and well-being more seriously, which, subsequently, led to a growth in Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs). In particular, the employers' liability for workplace stress continues to be one of the growth areas in Irish employment law (CIPD, 2012), ultimately placing very substantial obligations on employers (Gorry, 2015). This includes the employer’s obligation to identify risk factors, and put in place remedial mechanisms for, preventing, managing and alleviating stress in the workplace.

This dissertation focuses on examining whether …
