Technology Transfer Between Developed And Developing Countries, Tenny Oghogho Ogbomo May 1986

Technology Transfer Between Developed And Developing Countries, Tenny Oghogho Ogbomo

Theses

The problems arising from technology transfer, in general, are not new. The problems of the East-West technology transfer, for example, are based on the risk that such transfers will enhance the military capability, or at least the military potential, of the trading partner. In the case of United States trade with the Soviet Union, it can be said that any accretion in the Soviet military capacity weighs against the United States in an overall world-wide balance of power. The restrictions and/or prohibition of such transfer of technology are problems themselves.

The North-South technology transfer, in other words, the technology transfer …

Effects Of Physical Exertion And Caffeine Ingestion On Mental Performance, Alireza Shafiei May 1986

Effects Of Physical Exertion And Caffeine Ingestion On Mental Performance, Alireza Shafiei

Theses

Stresses in man-machine systems can be broadly classified as (1) physical and (2) mental. Both types of stresses generate some kind of response in the human body. These responses could be physiological (quantitative) or behavioral (qualitative). While the physical stresses mostly create physiological changes, mental stresses may cause physiological and/or behavioral changes. The purpose of this study is to investigate such influences, and try to determine if stimulants such as coffee have any effect on people's ability to perform tasks involving a combination of physical and mental elements.

An attempt has been made to describe an interrelationship between physical exertion …

The Decline Of Unionism With A Legal Analysis Of The Individual Rights Of Union Members, Maria-Isabel Cubides De Gast

Theses

The American labor movement has been losing power and membership for the last few years. Historical development and several facts have affected American unionism in such a manner that nowadays less than 20% of the labor force belongs to unions.

Among the most important causes of such decline discussed herein, are the following: lack of social role of unions, failure to satisfy new workers' needs, political reality under this Administration, high unemployment rate, and lack of union democracy.

Lack of union democracy is believed to be the most damaging factor for unionism's decline. Therefore it is studied in more detail, …

Air Pollutant Emissions From Non-Vented Radiant Kerosene Heater, Anil Kumar Mishra May 1986

This feature of specialty chemicals gives the manufacturer unusual pricing power compared to producers of commodity chemicals. This industry has proven to be very competitive, profitable and in the forefront of the present automation revolution over the …

Leading The Electronics Industry Into Total Automation, George P. Rossi May 1986

Leading The Electronics Industry Into Total Automation, George P. Rossi

Theses

The introduction of an automated PCB facility in today's technological society still includes a people-oriented facility. The main thrust should be to develop Artificial Intelligence, then the incorporation of LANS, CAD, ICAM, and CIM.

The ability to lace all the functions together is by far the biggest obstacle. The hardware of the equipment is not so much the obstacle to the chemical process and knowledge as the software. Software, which is the capability to talk from the computer to the equipment, is the greatest stumbling block because there is no standardization in the language format.

The method which a computer …

Does Teaching First Grade Students About Their Personal Learning Styles Improve Their Self-Concepts?, Jacquelyn Achurch May 1986

Does Teaching First Grade Students About Their Personal Learning Styles Improve Their Self-Concepts?, Jacquelyn Achurch

Theses

Research on learning style based instruction has indicated its importance as a valuable tool for academic success, and improved self- concept has been viewed as a by- product of this success . Additional research has labelled self-concept as a noncognitive correlate of learning style . The relationship between knowledge of one's personal learning style and self-concept has needed to be explored. Yet, very few studies about the effect on self-concept, after being taught about ones learning style, have been conducted . Hemispheric dominance and modality preferences are formed at an early age with self- concept also being fairly well-shaped before …

Packaging Requirements For A Sampling Mechanism For Self-Selection Liquid Foundation Makeup, Osnat Lustig

Theses

The cosmetics industry and retailers of cosmetic products face a problem of sampling of packaged merchandise by inconsiderate shoppers in self-service retail outlets. The problem is particularly serious in facial products such as liquid foundation makeup. The consumer desires hands-on feel of the product in order to make an unaided purchase decision of the product, and will continue to sample packaged products as long as there are no other alternatives. However, cost and operation considerations of the cosmetics marketing system often precludes the availability of such alternatives. This study attempts to provide an evaluation tool which will focus on the …
