A Study Of The Subjective Differences Between Soft-Copy And Hard-Copy Proofing, Sandra Fuhs
A Study Of The Subjective Differences Between Soft-Copy And Hard-Copy Proofing, Sandra Fuhs
Theses
The widespread use of Cathode Ray Tubes (CTRs) as soft-copy proofing devices in electronic imaging situations has raised serious questions as to their relevance, the appropriate viewing conditions and the necessary design, color and tone characteristics of the color monitors. Proofs are used at many different stages in the print production process. Each stage has different requirements in terms of color acceptance, detail, sharpness, composition and portability. At each level of the approval cycle various measuring devices are used to qualify acceptability. This thesis deals with every-day use and problems of soft-copy proofing. An electronic test pattern was displayed on …

An Investigation Of The Affects Of Typefaces Upon Reader's Perception Of The Meanings Of Messages Using The Semantic Differential Testing Technique, Veronica M. Hofman
Theses
This thesis is directed to the area of typography and the affects certain typefaces have on a reader's perception of the message of a text. There have been both empirical and non-empirical studies done that show evidence that connotations and feelings have been associated with typefaces. The intent of this study was to determine the feelings associated with a particular group of typefaces by relating each face to a list of adjective pairs and comparing the results with the content of books which incorporated the face on their jackets. This was to determine whether the content of a book and …

Where Have All The Nurses Gone? The Continuing Saga Of The Nursing Shortage, Deborah R. Mcfarland
Where Have All The Nurses Gone? The Continuing Saga Of The Nursing Shortage, Deborah R. Mcfarland
Theses
This paper examines the issues which have encompassed the nursing profession for many years, thus making it a difficult career in which to attract and retain members. The nursing shortage, many say, has returned, but did it really go away? The shortage experienced in the 1970's was coupled with high admission rates and high employee turnover causing a shortage of nurses, particularly experienced ones. Then, hospitals faced the emergence of the federal government making major changes in reimbursement to hospitals. This caused a major shift in the cash flow system of hospitals. Also, costs were no longer reimbursed on a …
A Christian Counseling Handbook For The Lay Counselors, Debra K. Olson-Demmie
A Christian Counseling Handbook For The Lay Counselors, Debra K. Olson-Demmie
Theses
Counseling psychology advocates a position of neutrality where religious issues are concerned. This position appears benign at first glance, but upon closer examination we find that psychology has been strongly influenced by modern humanistic thought. In his book Psychology as Religion: The Cult of Self-Worship, Paul Vitz (1977) states, "Psychology has become as religion, in particular, a form of secular humanism based on the worship of self" (p. 9). Vitz alleges that humanistic psychology is being practiced as an anti-Christian religion.
Christian mental health and pastoral care providers need to be alert to the infiltration of humanistic thought into psychological …

The Effects Of Motor Carrier Deregulation, Michael J. Scannell
The Effects Of Motor Carrier Deregulation, Michael J. Scannell
Theses
The Motor Carrier Deregulation Act was brought about by consumer groups that created pressure on Congress to deregulate several protected industries. The airline, telephone, and motor carrier industries that were regulated or governed by Federal Departments were deregulated approximately at the sane time due to the national consumerism of the late 1970's.
The Motor Carrier Deregulation Act appears to have been successful on the surface by lowering the price of transportation; however, in reality it has had a negative impact in certain smaller communities where the lack of service and higher cost has deterred future growth of the community. Smaller …

Deuterium Isotope Effects On In Vitro Dealkylation Of 1,1-Dimethylhydrazine And 1,1-Dimethylnitrosamine Via Hepatic Enzymes, Robert Sloane
Deuterium Isotope Effects On In Vitro Dealkylation Of 1,1-Dimethylhydrazine And 1,1-Dimethylnitrosamine Via Hepatic Enzymes, Robert Sloane
Theses
Boiling 1,1-dimethylnitrosamine or unsymmetrical dimethylnitrosamine several times with 25% NaOD in D2O promoted the complete exchange of the nitrosamine’s alpha protons for deuterium. The deuterated nitrosamine was reduced by LiAlH4, in anhydrous diethyl ether to the corresponding 1,1-dimethylhydrazine-d6. An in-process production of the oxalate salt was necessary due to the air sensitivity of the free base hydrazine. After recrystallization from absolute ethanol and extensive drying, the oxalate salt was evaluated for purity by mixed melting point, high performance liquid chromatography and thin layer chromatography. When protonated hydrazine-oxalate salt (mp=146 °C) was mixed with a sample of the exchanged hydrazine salt …
