Application Of The Wavelet Transform To Biomedical Signals, Karl O. Hauck
Application Of The Wavelet Transform To Biomedical Signals, Karl O. Hauck
Theses
The basic concepts and fundamentals of the wavelet signal representation were examined. The orthonormal wavelet was selected for this project after being compared to various types of wavelets. The orthonormal wavelet was chosen due to the equal time and frequency resolution exhibited in the wavelet coefficients. Programs were written in Matlab to implement the orthonormal wavelet in developing wavelet coefficients for a given signal. The programs include the conditions for an orthonormal wavelet in and which produce the wavelet filters g(n) and h(n). The wavelet filters were then incorporated into another program that applied Mallat's multiresolution algorithm for a given …

Bio-Oxidation Of A Model Voc In Air, Jeong Seop Shim
Theses
This study was performed to find a satisfactory regime of operation for the vapor phase bio-oxidation of ethyl alcohol, a model volatile organic compound (VOC), in a specially designed bioreactor. Ethanol was selected as a model compound representing bakery oven gas pollution. A spirally wound bioreactor module was used within which was immobilized a mixed bacterial culture from aerobic sludge. The activated sludge from municipal wastewater treatment plants readily attached with no pretreatment on the surface of the spiral biosupport which is a polymeric sheet.
The parameters studied were air flow rate and inlet concentrations of ethanol. Ethanol was injected, …

The Floral Ploy "Pieced, Painted, Printed", Shannon Pfaff
Theses
The purpose of this thesis is to take a complex concept and redefine it visually. The theory of brain evolution has been, and will continue to be in debate both scientifically and spiritually. Since the brain, or the mind, is the center of thought, it seems fitting that a search for unity begin here. Art and science, art and religion, science and religion, are not at opposite ends. Reason and emotion, instinct and intellect, power and surrender, can come together and exist in harmony. It is the goal of this thesis to explore how, through examining the inner workings of …

Empowerment: An Implementation Formula For Service Quality, Pat Bottiglieri
Theses
The thrust of this study was to determine a plan for the implementation of an empowerment strategy, for resort hotels. The review of the literature failed to reveal a recipe for implementation of an empowerment plan the is comprehensive or designed for long term benefits. However, there are numerous articles and books which discuss components which, may in fact, be critical aspects to an overall strategy - The study analyzed successful empowerment strategies from a corporate department of quality, and three resort hotels regarded as leaders in total quality management. The study used the Delphi Method to obtain consensus of …

Ara Guide To Opening A New Cafeteria, Cynthia R. Hay
Theses
In 1992 ARA had 39 business dining cafeterias open. In 1993 38 new cafeterias opened. These numbers not only represent openings, but new pieces of business for ARA. The opening is the first impression the customer gets of ARA; this makes it essential that the opening be a success. A successful opening is the beginning to a successful new piece of business. To assure a successful, organized opening, a standard manual is needed to guide the ARA operator. A successful opening is the mark of a successful future. If the appropriate policies and procedures are implemented from the start, the …

Healthcare Reform Through Redesign, Alanna D. Runge
Theses
This thesis will focus on the study of a complex redesign plan that healthcare organizations can utilize through healthcare reform.
Research has indicated that there are numerous individuals who are uninsured or underinsured. In addition, research has supported the rising costs of healthcare today . Because of these two elements, the federal government has launched a healthcare reform campaign. Therefore, healthcare facilities must be able to reengineer the way they currently conduct business.
There have been several redesign plans developed through research. However, the five common components are the delivery services, financial management and cost containment, marketing development, physician relations, …
A Fund Raising Program For An Under Or Non Insured Critically Ill Child, John O'Mara Thompson
A Fund Raising Program For An Under Or Non Insured Critically Ill Child, John O'Mara Thompson
Theses
Research shows that fund raising for public or private uses has existed for centuries. Since the 1900's, fund raising efforts have become more organized with specific goals, plans, and time limits, yet they still generally serve the public and not individuals.
Life saving medical treatments that were once regarded as experimental are now readily available yet are not without financial constraints. Unfortunately, the very people who need health insurance to support such treatments find themselves unable to get insurance at any price. Thus, an urgent need for fund raising by private families to finance non compensated health care bills are …

Using Public Relations To Effectively Communicate A Desired Corporate Image Of The United States Postal Service, Dianne Holloway Williams
Theses
The United States Postal Service is a 219 year old American institution that for the majority of those years enjoyed the approval and confidence of the American people. Now, newspaper articles regularly ask whether this public service would be better managed as a private industry.
Sometime after World War II Americans began to lose faith in big business and in the government. The Postal Service was included among those institutions that began to lose public trust. More recently, numerous news reports point to an agency delivering poor service through unconcerned, perhaps even violent employees . This general distrust of government …

Child Care: A Contextual Study And Comparison Of Parental Anxiety At Corporate And Off Site Facilities, Patricia Turner Marsh
Theses
The purpose of this study was to discuss some developmental aspects and trends in day care and to compare the anxiety levels between parents for whom the center was on the work site with those for whom the center was off the work site. The rationale for this study came from the suggestion in the literature that work site day care might be a viable solution to many difficulties dual income families encounter. Thirty-seven individual parents were sampled as they presented their children to a day care center at a hospital in a large midwestern city. The parents were from …
A Practical Guide To The New Journalism, Marcus J. Pasternack
A Practical Guide To The New Journalism, Marcus J. Pasternack
Theses
My thesis should consist of two bodies of work. The first, an analysis of several writing styles, both fictional and non-fictional, that are common in the current marketplace. The second part would consist of essays involving characteristics of these style. Obviously, there will have to be stylistic similarities among these styles to provide cohesion, as of this writing, however, I'm not sure what they would be. this should become clear when the actual selection of "works for study'' is made.
The overall purpose of this project would be a study for the practical application of writing as a viable source …

An Analysis Of Outsourcing And A Comprehensive Guideline To A Successful Transaction And A Smooth Transition, Robert H. Moss
An Analysis Of Outsourcing And A Comprehensive Guideline To A Successful Transaction And A Smooth Transition, Robert H. Moss
Theses
Information Services (IS) outsourcing is a new industry. Beginning in the late 1980's, corporations began to view the in-house IS departments as being excessively expensive due to the difficulty in controlling costs, the constantly changing technology, and a general unfamiliarity with inner workings of the systems and processes that made IS delivery work. Other corporations began to see that this niche could be filled by establishing large processing centers and selling the capacity to those corporations whose core businesses did not include IS and to those who believed costs could be reduced by simply getting out of the IS business. …

Worker's Compensation: Difficulties, Causes, And Remedies, Joseph G. Newman
Theses
This thesis will focus on the study of the Missouri workers' compensation system. its difficulties, the causes, and possible remedies. Current research reveals that the rising cost of workers' compensation is causing industry. labor. and government to consider major reforms to the system. These reforms might be directed toward curtailing rising medical costs. Workers' compensation costs have increased significantly through the 80's, and continue to rise. Excessive litigation 1s another factor influencing the cost of workers' compensation.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the difficulties found in administering a fair and equitable workers' compensation system. It is hypothesized …
Labor Unions: Losing Ground To Non-Union Rivals, Gary R. Watson
Labor Unions: Losing Ground To Non-Union Rivals, Gary R. Watson
Theses
This paper will begin with an overview of the development of trade unions in the United States construction industry. It will discuss the development of various labor organizations, labor laws, and their effect on construction trade unions.
Based on these developments, trade unions' rise to tremendous power was rapid. With power came large wage increases and benefit packages. Jurisdictional lines were strictly adhered to. Because owners were forced to operate with cost constraints, trade unions were beginning to negotiate themselves out of a job.
The major point of this paper will be the ramifications of these developments as it affects …
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator And Marital Satisfaction: Similarity And Complementarity, Glenda Sue Sullentrup
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator And Marital Satisfaction: Similarity And Complementarity, Glenda Sue Sullentrup
Theses
Many personality variables determine marital satisfaction. According to Myers theory (1993), couples are more likely to experience marital satisfaction if the spouses share similarity on the second preference of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI], the sensing-intuition [S-N] index. In contrast, Keirsey and Bates (1984) proposed that opposite MBTI types attract, but opposite temperaments do not. The purpose of this study was to determine whether similarity (having the same preference on the S-N index, or the same temperament) or complementarity (having opposite preferences on the S-N index, or opposite temperaments) was related to marital satisfaction among couples. Thirty-one white married couples …
Mother-Daughter Rapport And Its Relationship To The Daughter's Self-Esteem, Deborah L. Stilwell-Boyer
Mother-Daughter Rapport And Its Relationship To The Daughter's Self-Esteem, Deborah L. Stilwell-Boyer
Theses
The relationship between mother-daughter rapport and the daughter's self-esteem was examined for 36 women. All participants were women who volunteered to complete the Mother-Daughter Rapport Index and the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory. The only requirement for a woman to participate in the study was that the subject's mother had to be living. Where it was predicted that there would be no relationship between quality of mother-daughter rapport and daughter's self-esteem, it was found that there was a relationship between the two. Where quality of mother-daughter rapport increased, the daughter's self-esteem also increased. Where quality of mother-daughter rapport decreased, the daughter's self-esteem …

Theses
This study presents a comprehensive evaluation of the motivations for and benefits of church attendance in the aged population. A survey of the active older members of a particular church was conducted in conjunction with a review of previous research on related subjects. These methods revealed that the primary and secondary motivations for church attendance were to worship and to fellowship, respectively. It was also found that church attendance plays a major role in the adjustment of the aged. However, attendance and participation are sometimes inadvertently discouraged by youth-oriented clergy. Churches can greatly contribute to the satisfaction of both the …

Valley Wide Health Services, Inc. Fy 93/94 Marketing Plan Development, Jan C. Vest
Theses
This culminating project develops a marketing plan for a Community and Migrant Health Center in southern Colorado. The need for marketing plans for large multi-specialty group practices is becoming more and more evident. Increased competition for patients and the anticipated national and state health care reform suggests that the provision of physician services will continue to become more competitive in the future.
Community and Migrant Health Centers have not traditionally had to compete for patients. They have occupied a special niche in most markets, they were created to provide services to the medically underserved, and they very often are the …

Dealing With Culture Shock: International Adoption And Cultural Adjustment, Sandra Vanegas
Theses
Psychological stress is commonly experience.cl by any individual traveling in foreign countries. This is particularly true in areas where customs, social structures, and languages are unfamiliar. Culture shock is characterized by any notable change in thinking, or behavior which can be attributed to exposure to an unfamiliar environment and/or separation from a familiar one. Visiting another culture during the process of adopting children from other countries is, most of the time, a requirement for those parents who decided to adopt internationally instead of completing a domestic adoption.

The Normal Physiological Aspects Of Aging As They Relate To Nurse Aid Care, Michele Corinne Allen
The Normal Physiological Aspects Of Aging As They Relate To Nurse Aid Care, Michele Corinne Allen
Theses
The education of caregivers is essential to proper care. The retention of nurse aids in long-term care of the elderly can be enhanced by specific instruction in the physical aspects of aging as it relates to the required care. The educational level of nurse aids may not give them the perspective needed to interpret the changes they see taking place in the elderly. This paper provides some of that additional perspective.
Aging changes begin at the cellular level Cell tasks are specific and functional Aging effects changes in cell function and response with subsequent visible and experienced signs and symptoms …
