Authorized Access And The Challenges Of Health Information Systems, Ryan Shelc

Theses

The need for an interconnected health network has reached its peak. Using electronic health records dramatically increases the quality of care for patients and the efficiency of the health care systems. With the rapid development and integration of health care technology, standardization and interoperability has become a paramount problem. Repurposing Vacant Lots For Stormwater Runoff Mitigation In Rochester, New York, Sandra Golberg May 2015

Repurposing Vacant Lots For Stormwater Runoff Mitigation In Rochester, New York, Sandra Golberg

Theses

The area of the US known as the Rust Belt had an economic boom in the early 1900’s, and cities expanded rapidly to accommodate bustling manufacturing industries. This area then experienced a significant loss of population due to the migration of manufacturing industries to other areas beginning in the 1970’s. Many lots have become vacant and many homes have been abandoned because of this significant population loss. Industrialization introduces large areas of impervious surfaces and disturbs natural soils and landcovers, resulting in extensive stormwater runoff. While economies have declined, the problem of stormwater runoff remains. To mitigate the cascading problems …

Numerous museums have already created programs for people with specific disabilities or disorders. Workshops about disabilities and disorders should …

Exploring Property Based Aluminum Specifications., Naitik Gada May 2015

Exploring Property Based Aluminum Specifications., Naitik Gada

Theses

Aluminum recycling is imperative because of the steady increase in its consumption. Recycling creates a secondary supply stream, lowers production costs and significantly reduces energy use during the production cycle. One of the limiting factors to increased use of scrap in alloys is problematic tramp elements that accumulate in the scrap stream. Currently, alloy producers make use of blending models to assist in choosing from a large number of inputs (scrap sources, primary aluminum, and alloying elements) to manufacture a portfolio of alloys within specification. The goal is to present cost-effective strategies to increase scrap consumption under the applicable context …

Rematerialize, Eunmi Han

Theses

The universal thinking about jewelry is that it is an art form with monetary value. Often, people consider jewelry or body ornamentation to be a symbol of riches—precious items with great monetary value. As a result, most jewelers prefer to use precious metals, gemstones and the like, in its production.

This thesis explores the meanings and forms of jewelry that does not incorporate such precious materials. Instead of focusing on the value of the materials, their other qualities and the alternative aesthetics will be approached and discussed. Creating new meanings and visual designs that address the beauty, style, wearability, and …

Gender Negotiations Of Female Collegiate Athletes In The Strength And Conditioning Environment: A Qualitative Analysis, Rachel I'Leene Roth

Theses

Research has shown that collegiate female athletes are oftentimes faced with negotiating meanings of their femininity and their athleticism. Athleticism has traditionally been equated with masculinity, and to be a collegiate athlete requires certain levels of skill, experience, and athletic ability. Therefore, female collegiate athletes are conflicted with managing their identities in order to avoid accusations of their sexuality, which often results in being labeled as deviant. A primary indicator of athleticism is muscularity, which is also considered a masculine trait. In order to stay within gender boundaries, female athletes may go above and beyond to emphasize their femininity, or …
