In-Store Marketing Will Sell More Brewers Beer Than Relying On Media Pull Strategy Alone, Ron Muchnick
In-Store Marketing Will Sell More Brewers Beer Than Relying On Media Pull Strategy Alone, Ron Muchnick
Theses
The subject discussed in this paper is the value of using in-store marketing techniques to sell more Brewers beer than would be sold by relying solely on additional advertising. This additional advertising would in effect create what is termed media pull in motivating the consumer to buy more Brewers beer. The effectiveness of additional media support was compared to a sales promotion with reseller merchandising and display effort. This comparison was made by conducting two field experiments.
The methodology used was conducting two price promotions on Brewers twelve-packs. Both sample display stores as well as non-displaying control stores were selected …
A Value Concept And Methodology, Patricia C. Soucy
A Value Concept And Methodology, Patricia C. Soucy
Theses
This study explores the complexities and methodologies of personal property appraisal, with a focus on how “value” is defined, measured, and applied in practice. Using the example of Tea Leaf ironstone china, the paper illustrates the ways in which appraisers must differentiate between various value concepts—such as true value, market value, and replacement value—depending on the intended purpose of the appraisal. Central to this discussion is the recognition that value is not a fixed quality inherent to an object but rather a function of context, grading, and classification systems employed by appraisers.
The work emphasizes the scientific parallels in valuation, …

Personality And Mysticism: An Experimental Design, Deborah Marie Ellison-Rogers
Personality And Mysticism: An Experimental Design, Deborah Marie Ellison-Rogers
Theses
This research investigates the relationship between personality as measured by the Singer-Loomis Inventory of Personality and the quantity of mystical experiences as measured by the Mysticism Scale. A review of the literature shows that introverts have more awareness of the archetypes and the archetypes often appear in mystical experiences. Awareness of mystical experiences is precisely what the Mysticism Scale measures.
The results were largely insignificant . However, there was a definite skew toward introversion in samples for both the pilot project and the research project . It is felt that this skew is a function of the choice of populations …

Obstetrical Anesthesia Curriculum Project, Margaret A. Wittman
Obstetrical Anesthesia Curriculum Project, Margaret A. Wittman
Theses
The project idea stems from my work as a clinical instructor in nurse anesthesia. I have noticed that there is a great disparity between the didactic work done in the classroom and the clinical work done in the operating rooms. Instead of applying the classroom material to the actual case work, thereby making it important and meaningful to the student, the link between the two areas is virtually ignored. The aim in developing my project is to remedy this situation. In designing a curriculum for obstetrical anesthesia, I will attempt to utilize teaching methodologies which will not encourage rote memorization …

The Law And The Nurse Anesthetist, Beverly Ann Krause
The Law And The Nurse Anesthetist, Beverly Ann Krause
Theses
Should the surgeon, as "captain of the ship", be liable for the negligent acts of the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist? The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist is a highly skilled and educated nurse and is far more informed about anesthesia than the surgeon . The surgeons resent this needless liability , and because of this, the use of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists to administer anesthetics might decrease.
To prove that the hypothesis was correct, several methods of research were done . A content analysis showed that the courts are divided on their decisions. There have been many decisions absolving the surgeon …

Image Quality As A Function Of Unsharp Masking Band Center, Chia-Chin Liu
Image Quality As A Function Of Unsharp Masking Band Center, Chia-Chin Liu
Theses
Unsharp masking is an image enhancement technique used to obtain a Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) greater than unity within a given spatial frequency band. In unsharp masking, the mask forms a slightly blurred version of the original image. The result is more severe in the high frequency region than at low frequencies. The final image is made by combining the original positive and the blurred negative images. The subjective quality of images resulting from unsharp masking is a function of the frequency response of the human eye. This study evaluates the unsharp masking technique by implementing the Subjective Quality Factor …

The Removal Of Low Concentrations Of Heavy Metals From Photographic Processing Effluents Using A Modified Crovex Silver Recovery Metallic Replacement System, John W. Miller Jr
Theses
Parameters have been established for effective removal of low concentrations of silver and cadmium from photographic processing effluents using a CROVEX silver recovery metallic replacement system. Parameters include: total photographic processing effluents (composed primarily of wash effluent, fixer, and developer), residence time, pumping pressures, and maximum heavy metal input. Techniques using these parameters yield silver and cadmium removal approaching 98%.
Derivation Of The Optimum Film Contrast Gradient In Photographic Tone-Reproduction Systems, William R. Dowling
Derivation Of The Optimum Film Contrast Gradient In Photographic Tone-Reproduction Systems, William R. Dowling
Theses
The optimum tone-reproduction characteristics were determined for a high contrast, a low contrast and a controlled contrast scene, by subjective analysis of the resulting prints. From this, mathematical models of the optimum film characteristic curves and fractional gradients were derived. Optimal system gamma (filmT x paper 7 ) was determined to be between 1.2 and 1.4, however, the gradient contrast was determined for the film so that contrast is defined over the entire toe and straight line regions. Luther's equation and its derivitive were used as the models in this study, and it was found that these can be used …
Prediction Of Small-Scale Densities Using The Chemical And Optical Spread Functions, David S. Cline
Prediction Of Small-Scale Densities Using The Chemical And Optical Spread Functions, David S. Cline
Theses
Development adjacency effects and optical spread in photographic systems cause difficulties in predicting small-scale densities. These effects can be quantified as spread functions. The optical spread func tion describes the light scatter of the film. The chemical spread func tion describes the lateral diffusion of development- inhibiting and dev elopment-accelerating reaction products. These spread functions can be used along with the sensitometry and covering power relationships of the system to predict small-area densities from the object exposure profile. A study based on C. N. Nelson's work was undertaken to develop a math ematical model that uses the optical and chemical …

An Investigation Into The Effects Of Dry Etching Techniques On Changing Halftone Dot-Sizes, Anthony P. Stanton
An Investigation Into The Effects Of Dry Etching Techniques On Changing Halftone Dot-Sizes, Anthony P. Stanton
Theses
The purpose of this research was to investigate the effects of dry etching techniques on changing halftone dotsizes. Dry etching, or photographic color correction, has emerged in recent years as an alternative to traditional dot etching for making local corrections to color separation halftones. This study examines six factors related to dry etching. First, three types of original halftone dots were considered: laser formed (hard) dots from a Hell DC-300B scanner, laser formed (semi-hard) dots from a P.D.I, scanner, and contact screen (soft) dots from a Crosfield 510 Magnascan scanner. Second, the original dot-sizes being treated were fixed as close …

A Case For Family Therapy For Low-Income Families, Ruth Mihevc
Theses
"A Case for Family Therapy for Low-Income Families" explores the challenges faced by low-income families in accessing mental health services, particularly family therapy, and presents a model for addressing these challenges. The thesis begins by examining the relationship between social class and mental illness, noting that lower-income individuals face greater barriers to mental health care while also experiencing higher rates of mental illness. These barriers include logistical issues such as transportation, financial constraints, and scheduling conflicts, as well as systemic biases in the mental health delivery system that make it difficult for low-income families to access appropriate care.

Investigation Into The Mechanism Of Development To Increase Exposure Latitude Without Loss Of Threshold Speed, Susan A. Egnoto
Investigation Into The Mechanism Of Development To Increase Exposure Latitude Without Loss Of Threshold Speed, Susan A. Egnoto
Theses
A study was undertaken to gain information concerning the mechanism by which a high contrast emulsion is developed to a significantly increased exposure latitude, without loss of toe speed. Developer properties were altered through variations in pH, bromide ion concentration, developing agent concentration, and the Phenidone */hydroquinone ratio. The results indicate that the bromide ion concentration is the predominant factor reducing both the exposure latitude and the toe speed. The experimental evidence suggests that the bromide reduces the rate of development throughout the exposure range. The other facts investigated produced primarily changes in development rate without affecting the latitude at …
Digital Image Modeling Of Film Granularity And Effect On Subjective Pictorial Quality, Jerold B. Lisson
Digital Image Modeling Of Film Granularity And Effect On Subjective Pictorial Quality, Jerold B. Lisson
Theses
The basic question posed by this study is - WHAT IS THE SENSITIVITY OF PICTORIAL SUBJECTIVE QUALITY TO A GRANULARITY INCREASE? This question is decidedly different than the typically posed question of granularity studies, that is - WHAT IS THE SENSITIVITY OF PERCEIVED GRANULARITY (graininess) TO A GRANULARITY INCREASE? In the subjective evaluations herein, the former question was considered most pertinent to response from the general public, who in toto, do not interpret graininess as an attribute per se, but only that ubiquitous factor known as "quality" - poor, indifferent, or good. All references in this paper to granularity/quality thresholds …
Image Enhancement In A Microfilm Projection Printer Utilizing Partial Coherence And Spatial Filtering, Donald Pophal
Image Enhancement In A Microfilm Projection Printer Utilizing Partial Coherence And Spatial Filtering, Donald Pophal
Theses
An optical system was assembled for a study of spatial filtering and partial coherence. It was used to produce enlargements of microfilm images at a magnification of 12-X. Enhancement of fine-detail contrast was obtained by means of a spatial filter that transmitted most of the light diffracted by the microfilm negative and absorbed about 60$ of the undiffracted light. The filter increased the modulation transfer function (MTF) of the enlarging system by a factor of about 1.5 measured at spatial frequencies lying in the region where the eye is most sensitive. At higher frequencies, the enhancement became greater than was …
The Use Of Contour Plots To Optimize Exposure And Development Time In The Preparation Of Color Correction Masks With A Three-Aim-Point Control System, Ronald Irwin
Theses
The calculation of optimum development and exposure for color separation mask has long been a problem for the color separator. Today this problem is somewhat minimized through the use of mini-computers which utilize mathemati cal models in their programming. This thesis examines an alternative method of solving for optimum development speed and exposure conditions. The alternative tested was the use of contour plotting to predict a development and exposure time which would yield a predetermined mask number and A-B range. The process which the tests were conducted against was silver masking using three-aim-point control in contact conditions. This thesis describes …

An Experimental Study Of Comparison Between Ph-Parametric Pumping And Ph-Cycling Zone Adsorption Process On Protein Separation, Vincent P. Jajalla
An Experimental Study Of Comparison Between Ph-Parametric Pumping And Ph-Cycling Zone Adsorption Process On Protein Separation, Vincent P. Jajalla
Theses
In this thesis, an experimental investigation was conducted to compare the performance of the continuous pH-parametric pumping and the pH-cycling zone adsorption process on protein separation.
The model system studied was hemoglobin-water. on CM-Sepharose CL-6B (cation) exchanger in a single-column system. Various modes of operation were tried on both the pH-parametric pumping and the pH-cycling zone adsorption method. The separation factors for each mode of operation were computed and compared.
It is shown that the continuous pH-parametric pumping, with circulation to insure the pH uniformity inside the column, has the better separation factor than the pH-cycling zone adsorption method.
