Bio-Based Materials In Adaptive Reuse: Assessing Durability, Disassembly, And Reuse Potential, Gloria Barry May 2026

Bio-Based Materials In Adaptive Reuse: Assessing Durability, Disassembly, And Reuse Potential, Gloria Barry

Theses

This study evaluates the performance of bio-based and conventional wall assemblies in relation to their ability to be disassembled and reused after exposure to environmental stress. While durability is often prioritized in construction, this research examines whether materials that resist change are also those most suitable for reuse. Four wall assembly types, two conventional (CMU with EPS insulation) and two bio-based (compressed earth blocks with hemp insulation), were constructed, each with two specimens to establish control and test conditions, using different connection strategies, including 1/2-inch mortared systems and a combination of thin mortar-slip joints with mechanical fasteners. Assemblies were subjected …

Perceptual Evaluation Of Deep Learning Models For Hdr Reconstruction Under Severe Overexposure, Alireza Rabbanifar May 2026

Perceptual Evaluation Of Deep Learning Models For Hdr Reconstruction Under Severe Overexposure, Alireza Rabbanifar

Theses

Overexposure in imaging systems leads to irreversible loss of scene information due to sensor saturation, resulting in degraded perceptual quality and limited dynamic range. While recent deep learning approaches have shown promising results in correcting mild to moderate overexposure, their performance under severe overexposure and their perceptual quality in HDR image generation remain less understood. In this work, a comparative evaluation of four representative models—Multi-Scale Exposure Correction (MSEC), Illumination-Adaptive Transformer (IAT), LEDiff, and X2HDR—is conducted across multiple scenes and levels of overexposure, with particular emphasis on severe overexposure conditions. The evaluation focuses on the perceptual quality of the reconstructed HDR …

Migration Of The Spirit, Yaqub Shabazz May 2026

Migration Of The Spirit, Yaqub Shabazz

Theses

Migration of the Spirit examines interior transition through sustained painting practice. While migration is often understood as geographic displacement, this thesis reframes it as an interior reorientation shaped by halted time, disciplined solitude, and the act of reclaiming one’s own narrative. Grounded in lived experience within institutional systems and sustained decades of teaching and studio practice, the work reflects a movement from externally imposed narratives toward self-authored clarity. The paintings are marked by architectural compression, repeated motifs, and restrained palettes dominated by sienna, umber, and muted blues. Figures emerge within densely structured spatial fields shaped by assertive linear frameworks that …

Vectra: Medication Cart System Designed For Nurses, Chris Dimovski May 2026

Vectra: Medication Cart System Designed For Nurses, Chris Dimovski

Theses

Medication administration is a critical phase of patient care where errors are most likely to occur, often contributing to adverse drug events and increasing risk to patient safety. At the same time, rising levels of nurse burnout highlight the growing cognitive demands placed on healthcare professionals. Although systems such as medication carts, digital records, and safety protocols are intended to reduce errors, they operate independently rather than as a connected system. This leaves nurses responsible for connecting each step, relying on memory and constant adjustment throughout the workflow. This thesis focuses on the medication administration phase and looks at how …

Urban Illumination And Circadian Disruption: Examining Artificial Light At Night, Caitlin Mcmasters May 2026

Urban Illumination And Circadian Disruption: Examining Artificial Light At Night, Caitlin Mcmasters

Theses

Artificial light at night is increasingly prevalent in dense urban environments, yet it remains unclear how often typical city lighting conditions likely exceed recommended nighttime limits for residential circadian health. This thesis evaluates nighttime light exposure in two contrasting urban districts, Back Bay in Boston and Times Square in New York City, using satellite derived nighttime radiance, GIS based urban morphology, and documented lighting infrastructure characteristics. Rather than relying on calibrated photometric simulations, the study employs a qualitative, evidence based comparative approach to assess relative façade exposure and interpret conditions against established benchmarks, including the WELL Building Standard and ILP …

Adaptive Insider Threat Detection With Graph-Based Models, Rashed Hassan Nasser Alrazooqi May 2026

Adaptive Insider Threat Detection With Graph-Based Models, Rashed Hassan Nasser Alrazooqi

Theses

Insider threats represent one of the most challenging categories of cybersecurity risk facing modern organizations. Traditional detection approaches based on fixed rules, static thresholds, and signature databases are not effective for capturing the subtle and evolving nature of insider behaviour. This work proposes and implements a multi-stage unsupervised analytical framework for insider threat detection based on large-scale NetFlow telemetry. The framework operates through five interconnected stages: memory-efficient chunk-based streaming ingestion of raw NetFlow records, hourly temporal segmentation of host-level traffic statistics, composite anomaly scoring combining logarithmically scaled byte volume and flow frequency, weighted host-to-host communication graph construction with greedy modularity …

Generative Ai To Support College Students During The Writing Process, Damionie Vernon May 2026

Generative Ai To Support College Students During The Writing Process, Damionie Vernon

Theses

The growing integration of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) in higher education raises important questions about its role in supporting college students during the writing process. I used a mixed-methods approach, with a focus on quantitative questionnaires and qualitative written artifacts, to analyze patterns of GAI usage and perceptions by testing 34 college students. My thesis will explore these questions: (1) How do college students approach writing tasks in college?, (2) How do college students utilize generative AI to assist with writing tasks?, (3) What are the perceptions of college students on the use of generative AI to assist with writing …

Towards Effective And Efficient Robot Learning From Demonstrations Via Human-Robot Interaction, Xiwen Dengxiong May 2026

Towards Effective And Efficient Robot Learning From Demonstrations Via Human-Robot Interaction, Xiwen Dengxiong

Theses

Robot learning from demonstrations is critical in industrial and service robotics applications, where robots must acquire diverse skills and adapt to human workflows in complex, unstructured environments without relying on exhaustive manual programming. Although robots have been widely deployed in industrial settings, acquiring new skills and adapting to novel tasks remain significant challenges due to (1) the large volume of demonstration data typically required, (2) the limited reusability of previously learned knowledge, and (3) the high cost of collecting high-quality demonstrations.  This dissertation aims to address key challenges in robot learning from demonstrations in complex and unstructured environments by making …

Dissolved Nostalgia, Mckenna Ludmilla Brazie Apr 2026

Dissolved Nostalgia, Mckenna Ludmilla Brazie

Theses

No memory is eternal, no nostalgic experience is entirely authentic. This mantra is the catalyst for my thesis work, propelling the hunt for truth within my mind. I search through dissolving recollections and misplaced emotion in order to obtain some semblance of my life and how I feel about such experiences. While acknowledging my childhood, GenZ zeitgeist, metaphor, and surrealism through the ages, I strive to represent these findings in my large scale oil paintings. I refer to Fauves, surrealists, and landscape painters, among others to assist in my quest for personal truth. My paintings exist in the context of …

Dynamic Control Of Active Optical Structures Using Fea-Derived State-Space Models, Damian Suarez Apr 2026

Dynamic Control Of Active Optical Structures Using Fea-Derived State-Space Models, Damian Suarez

Theses

Active optical systems commonly use influence coefficient methods to map actuator commands to surface deformation, but these static models only describe steady-state behavior and do not capture transient or frequency-dependent structural dynamics. This work develops a finite element analysis (FEA)-derived state-space framework for active optical control by reducing an ANSYS deformable mirror model into modal coordinates and mapping structural deformation into optical Zernike space. The framework is used to compare three control strategies: static feedforward inversion, LQI feedback tracking, and a combined LQR–feedforward controller under steady-state and time-varying Zernike setpoints. The results show that feedforward control provides rapid static correction, …

Two Centuries Of Sexism In British Parliament: A Computational Analysis Of Women’S Representation In The Hansard Corpus, Mandira Sawkar Apr 2026

Two Centuries Of Sexism In British Parliament: A Computational Analysis Of Women’S Representation In The Hansard Corpus, Mandira Sawkar

Theses

Detecting sexism and gender bias in text is a central problem in NLP, yet most existing work focuses on short, informal content such as social media posts. In contrast, much less is known about how sexism operates in long-form, formal discourse, where it is often expressed indirectly through rhetorical framing, appeals to tradition, or references to gender roles. Parliamentary debates offer a particularly rich setting for studying such language, but their scale, linguistic complexity, use of archaic English, and the presence of distributional shift across centuries make systematic analysis challenging and historically infeasible without automation. In this work, we analyse …

Automatic Modulation Classification On Satellite Communications Across Orbital Domains, Lorraine (Raina) Freeman Apr 2026

Automatic Modulation Classification On Satellite Communications Across Orbital Domains, Lorraine (Raina) Freeman

Theses

In recent years, the space domain has exploded with both commercial and government activity, making situational awareness critically important. In this work, we highlight the need for signal intelligence capabilities that can transfer gracefully from terrestrial systems to space networks. This already difficult task is additionally complicated by the fact that satellites operate at multiple different orbits. Geostationary (GEO) satellites face significantly different channel conditions than their Low Earth Orbit (LEO) counterparts, meaning that any cross-orbital signal analysis tool must be able to handle widely varying conditions. Such tools may soon be critical for identifying satellites and detecting malicious cyber …

Assessing Difficulty Of Link Prediction On Benchmarking Knowledge Graphs, Lydia Klecan Apr 2026

Assessing Difficulty Of Link Prediction On Benchmarking Knowledge Graphs, Lydia Klecan

Theses

Knowledge graphs represent real-world data in a directed graph format where two entities, connected by a predicate, represent one fact. Link prediction models predict new relationships using existing entities and predicates, and are trained using benchmarking knowledge graphs. Redundancies exist within benchmarking knowledge graphs that allegedly artificially improve the results of link prediction. It is assumed in the link prediction field that if a model scores well on a highly redundant benchmarking knowledge graph, it may not directly correlate to good performance on other more complex knowledge graphs. This research creates new analysis methods and evaluation metrics for measuring redundancies …

Expedited Internet Bypass Protocol (Eibp) For Inter-As Routing, Tejas Ramakant Mhadgut Apr 2026

Expedited Internet Bypass Protocol (Eibp) For Inter-As Routing, Tejas Ramakant Mhadgut

Theses

Inter-AS link failures in conventional routing architectures are recovered through a combination of Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) hold-timer expiry, Link State Advertisement (LSA) flooding, and network-wide Forwarding Information Base (FIB) recomputation, a process that produces data plane outages measurable in seconds and affects every routing node in the involved Autonomous Systems (AS) regardless of topological relevance. This report presents the design, implementation, and evaluation of a failure recovery mechanism for Expedited Internet Bypass Protocol (EIBP), a label-based routing protocol in which forwarding decisions are derived from structured tier addresses rather than distributed routing tables. The implemented mechanism comprises three components: …

Bodyrevolt, Lauren Oliver Apr 2026

Bodyrevolt, Lauren Oliver

Theses

BodyRevolt examines the body as a mutable site shaped through performance, material intervention, and photographic mediation. Working across still and moving image, I stage choreographic interactions between my body and constructed forms—materials that function as both extensions and substitutions—destabilizing the notion of a fixed bodily truth. Through acts of sculpting, contortion, and repetition, I explore the tension between the body I inhabit and the body I imagine, using the camera not simply as a recording device but as an active participant in rehearsing transformation. Central to this inquiry is the construction of surrogate bodies, which offer a form of control …

Exam Analysis: A Quantitative Approach To Software Pedagogy, Christopher Shepard Apr 2026

Exam Analysis: A Quantitative Approach To Software Pedagogy, Christopher Shepard

Theses

Software engineering exams serve as a tool for evaluating a broad range of skills in the classroom, including theoretical understanding, practical application, and process reasoning. Despite their importance, post-assessment analysis is often overlooked, and the absence of structured reflection by instructors can limit their effectiveness and mask patterns in student performance. By treating exams as data, educators can uncover trends that drive more effective teaching strategies, refine evaluation methods, and work to strengthen student support systems. We conducted a systematic analysis of existing exam data and administered a student survey to determine if student perceptions align with actual outcomes, asking …

Integrated Vaccine Bundle Procurement Framework, Ming Zhu Apr 2026

Integrated Vaccine Bundle Procurement Framework, Ming Zhu

Theses

Childhood vaccination is among the most effective public health interventions, yet ensuring affordable access in low-income countries (LICs) remains challenging. Centralized procurement agencies such as UNICEF and Gavi purchase vaccines antigen-by-antigen through competitive tenders which is a practice that fails to capture the affordability gains attainable by coordinating vaccine products into optimized bundles tailored to each child’s complete immunization schedule. This study develops an Integrated Vaccine Bundle Procurement Framework that shifts the unit of procurement from the antigen level to the vaccine product level. The framework formulates the procurement as the construction and selection of child-level immunization bundles, feasible sets …

Competition And Community In Marx’S Alienation Theory: Addressing 21st Century Social Isolation Through A Laclauian Lens, Brett J. Zimmerman Apr 2026

Competition And Community In Marx’S Alienation Theory: Addressing 21st Century Social Isolation Through A Laclauian Lens, Brett J. Zimmerman

Theses

Capitalism reorients human priorities by necessitating socio-economic competition and tying the preeminent priority of survival to the rate at which one accumulates material resources. The orientation of wage as the only means to survival has replaced the need for the working class to form tribes, build inter-group solidarity, and engage in their communities, resulting in a less fulfilling society. Marx is traditionally conceptualized as a political or economic thinker, and while much of his political and economic thought will be useful supplementary material, in Section I, I will be viewing Marx through a more interpersonal lens. The section will take …

The Transformation Of Physical Archives In A Digital Age, Gabriel A. Stadler Mr. Apr 2026

The Transformation Of Physical Archives In A Digital Age, Gabriel A. Stadler Mr.

Theses

Scholars involved in archival studies have increasingly examined how digitization has transformed the accessibility of archive collections. For example, Clifford Lynch, a leader in digital libraries and a computer scientist, argues that the development of institutional repositories emerged as a new strategy that allows universities to apply what he calls “serious, systematic leverage to accelerate changes taking place in scholarship and scholarly communication” (1). He later clarifies that he defines these institutional repositories as places that hold digital materials and are created by the institution. Similarly, archival theorists such as T.R. Schellenberg emphasize the research value of records and the …

Subjective Feelings And Electrophysiological Responses To Love-Stimuli In Parasocial And Real-Life Romantic Love, Magda Martinez-Mata Apr 2026

Subjective Feelings And Electrophysiological Responses To Love-Stimuli In Parasocial And Real-Life Romantic Love, Magda Martinez-Mata

Theses

People can have a crush on, fall in love with, or develop a romantic interest in media figures despite having no reciprocal interaction, which is known as parasocial love. The objective of this study was to evaluate subjective feelings for and event-related potential (ERP) responses reflecting attention to the parasocial beloved and to compare them to real-life love. Twenty-six participants who have a parasocial beloved were recruited. Sixteen of those had a real-life beloved as well. The participants answered questions about their love feelings and completed the Infatuation and Attachment Scales and the Parasocial Love Scale for both their parasocial …

Understanding The Alternative Normative Concepts, Dewitt W. Spiller Apr 2026

Understanding The Alternative Normative Concepts, Dewitt W. Spiller

Theses

Matti Eklund's challenge to normative realism in Choosing Normative Concepts (2017) turns on the possibility of "alternative normative concepts"—concepts that play the same normative role as ours but have different extensions. Eklund argues that the ardent realist cannot express what he calls “the further question” about which concepts to use without either trivializing the answer or changing the subject. I argue that this challenge rests on an unstated assumption about how normative concepts are differentiated. I call this the Fragility Assumption. What I seek to show is that this assumption is not obligatory; there are live views of normative concepts …

Inequality And Well-Being, Sarah E. Boslaugh Apr 2026

Inequality And Well-Being, Sarah E. Boslaugh

Theses

Human well-being has been a topic of interest to philosophers at least since the time of Aristotle, and well-being has also been a core concern of social scientists since the birth of the discipline in the late 18th century. Some theories of well-being include economic inequality as a factor, and multiple ways to measure this factor have been developed; as with well-being, there is no single best measure of economic inequality and the choice of which measure to use may be based on both theoretical and practical reasons. I argue that income inequality should always be included as a …

Resource-Aware Cooperative Perception For Autonomous Driving, Matthew Magee Apr 2026

Resource-Aware Cooperative Perception For Autonomous Driving, Matthew Magee

Theses

In recent years, many new vehicles equipped with autonomous driving capabilities have been deployed around the world, but they still have a number of failure cases. One proposed solution to improve performance in these scenarios is cooperative perception, a paradigm in which vehicles communicate with other vehicles and nearby sensors to collect additional perception information about the environment. Prior work has demonstrated that cooperative perception can be accomplished with the high accuracy and low latency needed for autonomous driving. However, state-of-the-art systems rely on unrealistic assumptions about the conditions of the network connections between participating nodes and the compute resources …

This study used a qualitative design incorporating a structured literature review and semi-structured interviews with 85 participants. The Narrative Paradigm guided analysis, focusing on how individuals construct meaning through their experiences and interactions. Thematic analysis identified key patterns in patient-provider communication, misinformation exposure, and …

Machine Learning-Based Determination Of Sex-Related Bladder Cancer Biomarkers, Joseph Pizzi Apr 2026

Machine Learning-Based Determination Of Sex-Related Bladder Cancer Biomarkers, Joseph Pizzi

Theses

Bladder cancer exhibits sex-specific behavior, occurring more frequently in males but progressing to advanced stages more commonly in females. The activation of sex hormone receptors may explain these differences, but the exact genetic drivers remain poorly understood. Furthermore, current bladder cancer biomarkers have inconsistent sensitivities and specificities in practice, making early diagnosis a challenge. This study approaches bladder cancer biomarker discovery through machine learning techniques on gender and disease-stratified RNA-seq data. Training sets limited to differentially expressed genes were subjected to four different feature selection methods: differential gene expression analysis adjusted p-value, recursive feature elimination with support vector machine, logistic …

Visualizing Perception: Systems Of Perception And Cognition In Animal Species, Felicia Soto Apr 2026

Visualizing Perception: Systems Of Perception And Cognition In Animal Species, Felicia Soto

Theses

Animal species utilize various modes of perception based on their individual adaptations and survival needs. The sensory organs of an organism serve as an interface between the present environment and the organism’s central nervous system (Dangles et. al, 2009). An organism will make decisions based on the information being perceived and processed by that individual's nervous system. Studies investigate the mechanisms of these interactions in a variety of ways, from studying physiology and functional morphology, to conducting observational studies of perception. These studies concerning perception and cognition in animals can help to uncover parallels between animal species, as well as …

Hidden Diversity In A Clonal Endemic: Insights Into Clematis Socialis From A Population Genetics Perspective, Joanna M. Lapoint Apr 2026

Hidden Diversity In A Clonal Endemic: Insights Into Clematis Socialis From A Population Genetics Perspective, Joanna M. Lapoint

Theses

Clematis socialis (Kral) is a rare, federally endangered perennial species restricted to a small number of fragmented populations in Alabama and Georgia. The species exhibits extensive clonality and limited sexual recruitment, characteristics that complicate expectations regarding genetic diversity and population connectivity. Despite its conservation significance, genome-wide assessments of population structure have been lacking. We used genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS) to generate a genome-wide SNP dataset for 170 individuals sampled from six natural populations. Population structure and genetic differentiation were evaluated using Bayesian clustering, analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA), pairwise FST estimates, and network-based visualization. Analyses revealed strong genetic structuring among populations and …
