Reliable File Transfer Across A 10 Megabit Ethernet, Mark Van Dellon Jan 1984

Reliable File Transfer Across A 10 Megabit Ethernet, Mark Van Dellon

Theses

The Ethernet communications network is a broadcast, multi-access system for local computing networks. Such a network was used to connect six 68000 based Charles River Data Systems for the purpose of file transfer. Each system required hardware installation and connection to the Ethernet cable. The software is an implementation which conforms to Xerox "PUP File Transfer Protocol Specifications". This required the writing of two programs, the FTP user and the FTP server. Each program was built upon common communication packages which also had to be written. These communication routines transferred data over the Ethernet using the PARC Universal Packets (PUP) …

Determination Of The Existence Or Non-Existence Of Low-Intensity Reciprocity Law Failure In Kodak Micro Positive Resist 809, Jutta C. Middel Jan 1984

Determination Of The Existence Or Non-Existence Of Low-Intensity Reciprocity Law Failure In Kodak Micro Positive Resist 809, Jutta C. Middel

Theses

This thesis was performed to determine if low intensity reciprocity law -failure (RLF) exists in Kodak Micro Positive Resist B09 (KMPR 809) . At exposure irradiances at or below .44 mw/sq cm, it was observed that solublization of the photopolymer was incomplete, indicating that low-intensity RLF of the photosolubilization does exist. RLF was indicated by the formation of a "scum" layer over the exposed areas of the resist, the thickness of which increased with decreased irradiance. Mechanisms have been identified which may explain the RLF of the photoreaction. Confirmation of the proposed mechanisms could be the subject of another study. …

Gpss Compiler/Simulator, Jacquelyn Van Dellon Jan 1984

Gpss Compiler/Simulator, Jacquelyn Van Dellon

Theses

As with any large software project, the first priority of this thesis is program correctness in the GPSS compiler and correct simulation statistics. Several distinct processes are gone through in the construction of any compiler/simulator: development of specifications, indication of the goals, design, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance. The specifications of the GPSS compiler/simulator were introduced in the thesis proposal. The VAX/VMS 11/750 will be the machine which this GPSS compiler/simulator uses because of the supported 'C language, a Command Language Definition Utility, and accessibility by this author. The implementation language, 'C, was chosen based on ease of readability, ease of …

In Vivo Spectral Absorption Analysis Enabling The Classification Of Pigmented Cutaneous Lesions: Investigating System Design And The Role Of Faculative Melanin In The Spectral Determination Of Skin Type Classification, Howard E. Mahran Jan 1984

In Vivo Spectral Absorption Analysis Enabling The Classification Of Pigmented Cutaneous Lesions: Investigating System Design And The Role Of Faculative Melanin In The Spectral Determination Of Skin Type Classification, Howard E. Mahran

Theses

A spectroradiometer was designed and built to record in vivo absorption characteristics of the lateral elbow. An analysis of variance of spectral characteristics between 400 and 1100 nanometers of faculative melanin to skin types one two and three was performed. The hypothysis that skin type could be differentiate by spectral recordings of in vivo faculative melanin was rejected. Further research is required to correlate constitutional melanin to skin type classification, in order to form a reference for pigmented cutaneous lesion classification.

Digital Processing Of Compressed Image Data, Andrew Masia Jan 1984

Digital Processing Of Compressed Image Data, Andrew Masia

Theses

Certain image processing functions can be implemented more efficiently when the input data is in compressed form. Such an experimental system has been studied and simulated. The system consists of a one-dimensional Differential Pulse Code Modulation (DPCM) compressor, a one-dimensional non-recursive linear filter, and a one-dimensional DPCM decompressor, applied in that order. The implementation is more efficient because the filter is applied to the data in their compressed form, where fewer bits per pixel are required to represent them. A second, more conventional, system that contains the same functional elements but reverses the order of the filtration and decompression operations …

R.N. State Board Review Course Curriculum Project, Koreen Smiley

Theses

Nursing students, after completing two to four years of nursing education, are required to pass state board licensing exams in order to practice as professional registered nurses. Approximately 15 percent of all candidates fail these exams and must wait six months to repeat the test. This State Board Review Curriculum was designed to review and acquire the basic knowledge necessary to pass the Nursing Council Licensing Exam (NCLEX). The curriculum organization models the NCLEX by utilizing the nursing process format and through the integration of medical, surgical and behavioral concepts throughout the life cycle. The conceptual framework utilized man as …

Comparison Of Methods Of Mtf/Otf Analysis For Optical Systems, Jean Croteau Nov 1983

Comparison Of Methods Of Mtf/Otf Analysis For Optical Systems, Jean Croteau

Theses

A comparison study for the methods of obtaining the MTF of optical systems was performed. It is demonstrated that non-Fourier methods are as good predictors of the MTF as are the Fourier methods. A new technique based on the moment theorem is introduced and is found to be a good predictor. A computer algorithm has been written to perform all the necessary operations.

To The Best Of My Abilities, Barry Warren Kaiser Oct 1983

To The Best Of My Abilities, Barry Warren Kaiser

Theses

The basic intention of my work is to visually represent concepts through juxtaposed images. The concepts I represent may be elementary, but this does not limit the relationships between images, which may be highly complex. The inspiration for the linkage between images commences intellectually, but because I wish to create unique, and visually appealing pieces, I also deal with the evocative qualities of these juxtapositions.

Data Acquisition And Parameter Identification In Electro-Oculography, Wolfgang Poelzleitner Sep 1983

Data Acquisition And Parameter Identification In Electro-Oculography, Wolfgang Poelzleitner

Theses

Electro-Oculography (EOG) is used in clinical ophthalmology to measure the time response of the corneoretinal potential (CRP) to changes in light intensity. An automatized data acquisition and system modeling link has been developed that significantly reduces processing time presently required for EOG. The data acquisition is performed on a microprocessor based instrument, which supervises the EOG-test, measures the potential and, after completion of the test, transfers the results to a mainframe computer. Parameter identification routines provide graphical representation and mathematical models for the CRP. Both nonlinear curve fitting methods and Least Squares System Identification schemes are used.

The Pot As Nurturer: An Approach To Functional Pottery, Marian L. Baker Aug 1983

The Pot As Nurturer: An Approach To Functional Pottery, Marian L. Baker

Theses

What is meant by life in pots? Animals drawn on the sides? Arms and legs sprouting out from the clay walls? a big face on the side like those horrible mugs you see in tacky gift shops? Is it a quality in the throwing? A tiny piece of clay frozen out of place on the wall? A fat round shape that may speak of pregnancy or over-eating? Gooey slip dripping off the sides? A distorted portion: lip, foot, wall? A disoriented pot, leaning on its left foot? A drunk pot, ready to fall over? It it none of these, but …
