This study examines how the Iraqi writers maintain cohesion in the text by analyzing the patterns of thematic progression in various rhetorical moves in an online Iraqi newspaper, Azzaman (Zaman). This study integrates two theoretical frameworks such as the rhetorical movement which was modified by Van Dijk (1993) and later modified by Katajamaki and Kosketa (2006) and the thematic progression theory by Danes (1974). This paper looks at the opening and closing strategies of Malaysian vlogs. Aside from these strategies, the non-verbal communication of the vloggers are analysed as well. This paper also investigates the vlog viewers’ perception regarding the importance of openings and closings in vlogs. Frobenius’s (2011) taxonomy of opening strategies and Coronel-Molina’s (1998) closing strategies are used as the framework for analyzing the data. This study investigated the effectiveness of different strategies of written corrective feedback in improving students' written accuracy. 20 students were recruited and divided into two groups, direct and indirect group. This study was conducted in 3 stages; pre-test, treatment, and post-test. Feedback was provided in treatment stage where group one students received direct corrective feedback while group two students received indirect corrective feedback. This study sought to determine the levels of pragmatic competence among Iranian EFL learners and to correlate these levels with their levels of grammatical competence. In order to do this, separate tests were devised. One set of tests was designed to measure pragmatic competence. A second set of tests was devised to test grammatical competence. In 2012 alone, the Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) reports that Internet Romance Scams (IRS) have caused a loss of RM32.09million. Using romance and love as bait, romance scammers entice their targets into a romantic relationship before persuading them to give money; hence causing victims to also suffer psychological and emotional trauma. This qualitative case study examines a total of 15 scammer e-mails taken from one successfully closed IRS case obtained from RMP to determine (1) how the scammer’s credible identity is established, (2) how the target’s emotional responses are aroused, and (3) how the fraudulent scheme is diachronically developed; focusing …
