The Potential Role Of Microbes In Oncogenesis With Particular Emphasis On Oral Cancer, Asmaa A. Faden
The Potential Role Of Microbes In Oncogenesis With Particular Emphasis On Oral Cancer, Asmaa A. Faden
Saudi Medical Journal
For over a century, non-virus microorganisms, notably bacteria have been implicated as causal agents of cancers, a relatively small number of researchers have provided evidence to support the so-called “cancer germ” hypothesis. With the exception of the link between Helicobacter pylori and stomach cancer, other supposed links have been ignored. A wide range of bacteria and other non-virus microbes, including fungi, have been implicated over the years in oncogenesis, as well as the ability to induce inflammation, which may cause cancer. It seems that there is no single “cancer germ,” as most bacteria can apparently induce cancer. Here, the role …

An Insight Into The Molecular Characteristics Of Hepatitis C Virus For Clinicians, Lingyao Du, Hong Tang
An Insight Into The Molecular Characteristics Of Hepatitis C Virus For Clinicians, Lingyao Du, Hong Tang
Saudi Medical Journal
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) consists of envelope proteins, core proteins, and genome RNA. The structural genes and non-structural genes in the open reading frame of its genome encode functional proteins essential to viral life cycles, ranging from virus attachment to progeny virus secretion. After infection, the host cells suffer damage from virus-induced oxidative stress, steatosis, and activation of proto-oncogenes. Every process during the viral life cycle can be considered as targets for direct acting antivirals. However, protective immunity cannot be easily acquired for the volatility in HCV antigenic epitopes. Understanding its molecular characteristics, especially pathogenesis and targets the drugs act …
