Fresh fruits play a vital role in ensuring food and nutritional security, while also making significant contributions to global trade. However, due to their highly perishable nature, they are susceptible to postharvest losses during storage, transportation, and marketing. Edible coatings (ECs) and edible films are effective postharvest preservation technologies for retarding senescence and preserving fruit quality. This review provides a comprehensive update on recent developments in ECs and films aimed at reducing postharvest losses in fresh fruits. These coatings are formulated using biopolymers, including polysaccharides, proteins, and lipids, along with food-grade additives. The review discusses how ECs modulate postharvest physiology …

How Perceived Empowerment And Place Attachment Drive Residents’ Support For Sustainable Tourism In Central Vietnam: A Serial Mediation Model, Phuong Kim Thi Tran, Nhi Thao Ho-Mai, Tuan Nien Tran, Vinh Trung Tran
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
From the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and the Stimulus-Organism-Response (S–O–R) framework, this study proposes a serial mediation model to examine psychological drivers of residents’ support for sustainable tourism development (STD) in central Vietnam. Specifically, this study investigates how perceived empowerment and place attachment as stimulus influence residents’ attitudes (ATT), subjective norms (SN), and perceived behavioral control (PBC) as organism, which in turn shape their intentions to support STD as response. The study empirically surveyed 686 residents engaging with tourism services in three cities, namely Hue, Da Nang, and Quang Nam, in central Vietnam. This study utilised both online and …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Among many firms in emerging economies, investments in HR analytics promise strategic insight yet often fail to translate into measurable sustainability gains. This study theorises and tests how HR analytics capability drives supply chain sustainability through the strategic enactment of Green HRM (GHRM). Drawing on dynamic capability theory and socio-technical systems theory, we propose that HR analytics capability indirectly enhances supply chain sustainability by enabling firms to design and implement data-informed GHRM strategies that align workforce practices with environmental objectives. We further argue that this indirect effect is contingent on two distinct enabling conditions: AI-driven capability, which strengthens the translation …

Participatory Work Design Intervention In A Disability Support Organization: Effects On Job Demands, Social Support, And Burnout, Arian Kunzelmann, Connie Deng, Lucinda Iles, Ryan Cheng, Helena Nguyen, Anya Johnson, Sharon K. Parker
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
This study evaluates the effectiveness of a participatory work design intervention to improve job quality and mental well-being in a disability support organization. We investigate whether the intervention is associated with changes in burnout (i.e. disengagement, work-related, client-related), and we assess the changes in work design through which the intervention has its effects. We hypothesized that the effects of the work design intervention on burnout occur via changes in social support (i.e. co-worker instrumental and emotional support) and job demands (i.e. role conflict, time pressure). 72 participants were involved (N = 21 in the intervention group, 66.7% female; N = …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Conceptualised from a vision to honour children’s languages, agency and cultural ways of knowing, this research presents findings from a place-based translanguaging play pedagogy for early childhood called Playworld Translanguaging. In the remote Kimberley of Western Australia, researchers collaborated with educators in a Kindergarten/Primary/Yr 1 class of mostly Aboriginal children who have Bardi Jawi as their ancestral language, co-designing ways to revitalise this language through play pedagogy in ways intimately connected to place. Our Playworld Translanguaging approach reimagined Conceptual PlayWorlds (Fleer, 2018) with the intention of integrating pedagogical translanguaging. Following Indigenist research principles, critical participatory action research (CPAR) was the …

Despite the revolutionary impact of genome engineering tools in medicine, the safe and effective intracellular delivery of CRISPR remains a major obstacle to clinical applications. Here, we utilize precision molecular targeting and delivery strategies based on CRISPR-nuclease-dead Cas9 (dCas9) systems adapted for epigenetic repression (dCas9-Krüppel-associated box [KRAB]) to silence oncogenic drivers with high selectivity. As proof of principle, we target the EWSR1-FLI1 translocation, which encodes a chimeric and hard-to-drug oncogenic transcription factor driving approximately 85% of the cases of Ewing sarcoma (EWS)—an aggressive childhood malignancy. We describe the development of a programmable, non-viral polymeric system for the delivery of dCas9-KRAB …

The Role Of Participant–Clinician Relationality And Intervention Source In A Violence Reduction Trial: A Qualitative Study, Paul Leslie Simpson, Freya Stephenson, Patricia Morgan, Emaediong I. Akpanekpo, Jocelyn Jones, Peter William Schofield, Lee Knight, Tony Butler
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Violence and domestic violence are global public health problems with prevention programs showing limited effectiveness. The form of delivery of such programs can influence their utility yet delivery characteristics are often poorly described. We analysed interviews with clinicians (n = 5) and participants (n = 12) involved in ReINVEST, a violence reduction clinical trial, to identify key elements of delivery. Three themes were identified: (1) clinician accessibility; (2) clinicians as participant advocates; and (3) humane care, reflecting participant–clinician ‘relationality’ as a central component of program delivery. We propose that this relationality is more likely to emerge in interventions delivered independently …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Introduction: Monitoring trends in wildlife populations and their response to pressures is integral but challenging for conservation managers. Wuthuga (dugongs (Dugong dugon)) are increasingly vulnerable as extreme climatic events, such as marine heatwaves and flooding, intensify with a warming climate and increasingly impact the seagrass they are dependent upon.
Methods: This study estimated wuthuga abundance using two methodologies: conventional observer aerial surveys, as part of a time-series of surveys, alongside aerial imagery, in Gathaagudu (Shark Bay), Western Australia in 2023. We compare the contemporary abundance estimates with long term monitoring data (1989 – 2018) to identify temporal trends in abundance …

Colour Segmentation In Coffee Berry Recognition: Light And Texture Convergence For Single-Overflight Frugal Agro-Diagnostics In Smallholder Coffee Environments, Cook David, Chris Napier, Leisa Armstrong
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Smallholder coffee plantations are disadvantaged compared to larger coffee estates because they lack the digital sophistication to perform regular investigation of crops for signs of berry disease and poor berry health. Accurate visual recognition of coffee berry health is critical for early detection, particularly by pests such as Hypothenemus hampei. A persistent challenge is distinguishing true signs of infestation, and the pursuit of healthy berries is a contested struggle, classified by the size and scale, and determined by constrained financial decision support systems preventing high-level precision crop evaluation. Much of the precision agriculture discourse ignores smaller concerns in the 2-hectare …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Children's ability to extract statistical regularities from speech is considered fundamental to lexical, syntactic, and grammatical development. However, the neural oscillatory mechanisms supporting this process in childhood remains poorly understood. While beta-band oscillations have been linked to statistical learning in visual and motor domains, it is unclear whether similar dynamics support auditory statistical learning in children. In this study, we recorded electroencephalography (EEG) from children aged 8–12 years as they listened to a continuous stream of trisyllabic nonwords (e.g., dapiku), where syllable order within each nonword was fixed (high predictability), but transitions between nonwords were variable (low predictability). Beta power …

This study utilizes systems thinking to explore and entwine an evolving metaverse scholarship to a relatively underexplored phenomenon of Web 4.0. We adopt a soft systems thinking framework to guide the interpretation of complex and evolving metaverse scholarship, using bibliometric mapping of 5587 publications sourced from Scopus. Using systems thinking, we synthesize these clusters into the following four thematic areas: (i) business and society implications, (ii) optimization, (iii) integration with other technologies and (iv) metaverse education. Drawing on the largest-to-date review of the metaverse as well as a systematic review of Web 4.0 literature, we propose a novel conceptualization of …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Text messaging programs have emerged as effective tools for enhancing parental engagement in children’s home-based literacy development, as substantiated by a growing body of research. This paper presents findings from a doctoral study that examined parental experiences and perceptions of a literacy-based text messaging program, with particular emphasis on how such initiatives inform and shape literacy practices in families with kindergarten-aged children. Rooted in the frameworks of social constructivism and interpretivism, the research privileges participants’ unique perspectives to explore the varied meanings parents construct around their use of the Kindytxt program. The study was theoretically informed by Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory, …

The modern world is shifting towards digitalization and miniaturization, leading to higher flux densities in electronic components and machines. However, conventional cooling methods, such as air-cooled smooth channels, are proving inadequate for removing the huge amounts of heat generated, thereby compromising the reliability and operational lifespan of electronic systems. This necessitates urgently exploring and analyzing modern techniques like microchannel cooling to improve its efficiency. This work uses ANSYS to conduct numerical simulations and investigates the heat transfer and flow behavior in a microchannel heat sink. The smooth channel is used to investigate and validate the flow behavior with the available …

The posterior chain muscles (i.e. hamstring and gluteal) play an important role in performance and injury prevention. Posterior chain muscle injuries lead to time lost from training, competition and increased reinjury risk. Force plates enable valid and reliable assessment, current methods assessing isometric posterior chain (IPC) force production using force plates have yet to be reviewed. This review was designed to systematically review methods of single joint IPC force plate testing; establish existing reliability; and summarise descriptive data. A literature search was conducted using the following search terms: ‘force plat*’ AND ‘isometric’ AND (‘hamstring*’ OR ‘knee flex*’ OR ‘posterior chain’ …
