Agency/Communion Balance And Its Relationship To Sex Role Stereotyping, Dorothy Thompson
Agency/Communion Balance And Its Relationship To Sex Role Stereotyping, Dorothy Thompson
Open Access Dissertations
The purpose of this investigation was to examine a model of interacting with life situations which does not carry with it the restrictions implicit in the masculinity-femininity-androgeny concepts. However, the model includes positive aspects of behavior generally imbedded in the masculinity- femininity concepts. This model utilizes David Bakan's (1966) concepts of agency and communion, modifying his description of these modes of interacting and positing a complementary (completing, non-conflicting) relation between them. An agency/communion theoretical model was developed which emphasizes the potential for balance between the modes. Problems with the traditional gender dichotomy were discussed. The transcending of sex roles and …

Large And Small Scale Temperature-Salinity Correlations In The Ocean, David L. Evans
Large And Small Scale Temperature-Salinity Correlations In The Ocean, David L. Evans
Open Access Dissertations
An examination of the equations for the conservation of salt and potential temperature provides a functional relationship between the cross-correlation of the gradients of temperature and salinity fluctuations and the ratio of the variances of the gradients of the fluctuations. Different values of the correlation correspond to different dynamical processes. When the fluctuating quantities are well correlated, it is predicted that the slope of the regression line of the temperature fluctuations on the salinity fluctuations is the appropriate scaling parameter for the relationship.
The functional relation is combined with a linear equation of state to show that the slopes of …
Sex-Role Development In Psychiatrically Disturbed Adolescent Females And Their Parents, Judye Gershman Hess
Sex-Role Development In Psychiatrically Disturbed Adolescent Females And Their Parents, Judye Gershman Hess
Open Access Dissertations
Seventeen acting-out, 17 mixed-neurotic and 19 normal adolescent females were compared with respect to their sex-role development. It was hypothesized that mixed-neurotic girls would be more 'traditionally' feminine in their sex-role development while the acting-out girls would be more masculine. It was expected that the normals would show a combination of masculine and feminine traits. Adolescents' perceptions of the sex-role behavior of their parents were also examined. It was expected that the mixed-neurotic girls would perceive their mothers as more traditional in sex-role while the acting-out girls would perceive their mothers as more masculine. Again, normal girls were expected to …

16 x 16 element silicon image sensor arrays, utilizing the photodiode-bipolar transistor (PBT) element, were fabricated, tested and scanned in a television raster. Area arrays utilizing the PBT element are simple to fabricate requiring only two diffusions and one metallization. The spike noise cancellation scheme inherent in the PBT element was effectively utilized in the area arrays to reduce the peak value of the spike noise by more than an order of magnitude and to increase the peak value of the video signal.
The circuit analysis was performed using ECAP-1620. The photodiode was modeled by a non- linear capacitor and …
