Interaction of beta-cyclodextrin with ampicillin, phenobarbitone, and phenytoin was studied and complexation was observed with all three drugs. Analytical methods for the quantification of these drugs were validated. In order to obtain an inclusion compound in the solid powdered form, a variety of methods (freeze drying, spray drying, kneading, and solvent evaporation) was evaluated. Among these methods freeze drying was the most feasible and reproducible method from a laboratory scale to a pilot scale and to the manufacturing level. Factors Influencing Food Habits In Antigua, W.I., Jill E. Armstrong

A cross-cultural food habit model constructed after review of available literature was used as a guide for investigating food habit determinants. A food habit survey was conducted in Antigua, W.I. in December, 1981 and January, 1982 to test the model. Data collected by questionnaire from 305 households included household food purchase and production, food consumption via 24-hour recall and food frequency, food-related beliefs and socioeconomic characteristics of respondents and household members. Results showed that the Antiguan diet is starch-based and that, despite crop production by about two-thirds of the households sampled, many diets appeared to be deficient in selected fruit …

Studies of the Holocaust have shown that the Concentration Camp victims were traumatized in so massive a fashion as to make a permanent and irreversible change in their character.

The purpose of the present research was to make a direct inquiry into whether the character traits and symptoms of the survivors had an effect on character structure and personality of their children. Further, it was an attempt to distinguish two groups of survivors' children: children of survivors who were adolescents in the Concentration Camps and children of survivors who were adults in the Concentration Camps.

Causal Inferences Among Perceived Work And Nonwork Stress And Satisfaction, And Psychological Distress: Empirical Tests Of Path-Analytic Models, Jocelyn J. Johnson

The present investigation was designed to integrate work and nonwork domains in the study of perceived stress, satisfaction, and psychological distress. Causal inferences among perceived work and nonwork stress and satisfaction, and psychological distress were determined by empirically testing two basic path-analytic models depicting causal relationships among those variables.

Data were obtained from a sample of 105 female clerical workers on five variables (work stress, nonwork stress, work satisfaction, nonwork satisfaction, and psychological distress) and support for the contention that work and nonwork domains are interdependent was found. Nonwork variables contributed more to perceived psychological distress than work factors.

A Hobart mixer was instrumented with a slip ring torque sensor, signals were amplified and the output was recorded using a Bascom-Turner recorder. The relative dynamic torque on the paddle was measured in millivolts as a function of granulating fluid added and time. The data generated from a formulation containing lactose, corn starch and povidone were reproducible. The maximum relative standard deviation was less than two percent at any time point on the torque curve. Formulations containing lactose, dicalcium phosphate and mannitol matrices (with four different drugs) shoed five distinct phases in the torque profile. Phases I, II, and III …

Previous research has suggested a high positive correlation between agentic characteristics and self-esteem. Psychotherapists have noted, however, that as women clients become more agentic, they experience distress and heightened concerns about betraying their mothers. The present study utilized a non-clinical sample of adult women engaged in the process of personal change (i.e., women reentering college) to explore relationships among the variables of Self-esteem (SE), Fear-of-success (FOS), Educational Goals (EG), Agency (A), Communion (C), agentic similarity to mother (ASI), and comfort with agentic attributes (ACI). This investigation examines the relevance of Piagetian theory for understanding creativity. Selected studies of creativity using a variety of methodologies and deriving from diverse theoretical orientations are reviewed with the purpose of demonstrating a common link among seemingly unrelated investigations, namely, their congruence with a Piagetian theory of creativity.

Three subtopic areas are considered in more detail: attention deployment of creatives, similarities and differences between creatives and schizophrenics, and Kuhn's theory of scientific revolutions. An attempt is made to relate the findings from each of these areas to a Piagetian perspective on creativity.
