"The Missouri "Lead Belt" comprises approximately 50 square miles, centering around the town of Flat River, in St. Francois County. Missouri. This district has been producing lead for more than 200 years, the total production being at least 8,000,000 tons of lead, valued at more than $1,000,000,000. For many years, the annual production of the district has been at least one-fourth of the total production in the United States.

An excellent description of the geology of this area was published recently by Ohle and Brown in 1954.

Statement of the problem. It was the purpose of this investigation to undertake a field study in Athens Township, Calhoun County, State of Michigan in order to (1) determine the ecological factors necessary for maple sap production; (2) relate the extent to which the natural resource is being used; and (3) determine economic and social values to the syrup producers. The information was compiled through the sue of interviews, questionnaires, research, and participation in a community project.

"A stable direct current transistor amplifier is difficult to design for use at elevated temperatures. The above is true since transistor parameters and bias conditions are affected by temperature. When transistors are incorporated in direct coupled amplifier circuits, these variations in parameters and bias conditions usually result in unstable operation. It is the purpose of this thesis to investigate this problem and to design a stable direct current transistor amplifier which will operate satisfactorily at elevated temperatures.

"The problem is to develop a phase-lead compensation network for a servomechanism which will not reduce the low-frequency gain and thus decrease the velocity-lag error. The principal part of this thesis deals with the design of such an active phase-lead network. The active network does not have d-c coupling; this eliminates drift problems.

To illustrate an active phase-lead network a simple second order servomechanism is used as a basis for comparing three methods of compensation.

The substances obtained by corrosion of titanium in fused salts, if leached with water and dried, are composed of three kinds of products, namely of black, gray and yellowish ones. The black product was identified by X-ray diffraction as titanium-oxygen alloy with 9-10% by weight oxygen which later was used as coating material instead of the titanium sheet for deposition experiments described previously.
