"This investigation was conducted to develop a graphical representation to determine the optimum bearing conditions for minimum friction and to establish a theoretical approach for journal bearing design.

A series of graphs has been plotted for· the coefficient of friction versus the eccentricity ratio based on the. Sommerfeld number derived from Reynolds' differential equation, f or optimum journal bearings.

The results obtained in this research have been compared with those developed by other investigators. This comparison confirms the validity of the results presented in this thesis, so that it could be used advantageously for the design of optimum journal bearings"-- …

"The effects of ammonium acetate on the solubility of anhydrous nickel (II) acetate in anhydrous acetic acid was investigated and was found to behave similar to the zinc (II), copper (II), and cobalt (II) systems. Problems with equilibrium, encountered by previous investigators, were overcome. The determination of the structure of nickel (II) acetate hemiacetate was atacked by infrared studies, preparation of adducts, cryoscopic studies, magnetic susceptibility measurements, and absorption spectra. It was found that nickel (II) acetate hemiacetate is octahedrally coordinated with two coordination sites vacant. "A procedure for scaling and operating a laboratory model for the purpose of studying fluid crossflow between zones of different permeability is presented. A modified existing model is used to simulate conditions for three dimensional, incompressible, two-phase flow through a two-layer, unconsolidated, homogeneous porous medium.

Eight tests were made to show effects on crossflow between the zones. Qualitative results indicate crossflow from the high to the low permeability zone for various perforation ratios and mobility ratios"--Abstract, p. ii

"This paper briefly reviews the geometric concepts associated with nonlinear differential equations and then proceeds to a study of the homogeneous van der Pol equation. After studying the method of Kryloff and Bogoliuboff for small values of the parameter €, the author makes a numerical study of the equation using Hamrning's Method for the numerical solution. Several trajectories and the phase plane are shown for E = 0.1, 1.0, and 5.0. It is the purpose of this study to review the cervical cancers, stained by Papanicolaou (1956:3-6) method, at Borgess Hospital, Kalamazoo, Michigan, from September, 1956 to September 1963.

A previous analysis of the cytological screening at Borgess Hospital to ascertain the per coat accuracy in cervical diagnoses, was made by the investigator in June, 1961. This study, covering a four year period, draw attention to the fact that the patients with invasive carcinoma were in a much older age group than any other reported series studies. The intent is to investigate and compare the historical origin, reasons for settlement, early development, growth patterns, industry, lines of transportation, and elements of similarity and difference between the towns.
