Universality Of Management Principles And Applicability Of American Management Know-How In Less Developed Countries., Minas Lessanu

Masters Theses

"The title is the Universality of management principle through the history and development of management thoughts. It illustrates the gradual education of management principles. Then it goes on to discuss certain problems of the field of management, in particular the problems associated with semetics.

The thesis then discloses the different management principles in the different managerial functions of planning, organizing staffing and controlling. It then shows these principles to be universal and finally discloses the different environmental constraints that evolved and concludes that they are universal, but their applicability is to a certain extent possible and highly dependent on the …

Planned Unit Development: A Comprehensive Analysis Of A New Approach To Community Living., John Raymond Weese

Masters Theses

"Undeveloped land in America has been one of our most cherished natural resources for many years. Yet, land development has often been haphazard and extremely wasteful.

This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of one particular method for developing land which utilizes land efficiently, but which also respects the natural characteristics of a land development site. The Planned Unit Development process is such a method, and it is the subject of this paper.

The Planned Unit Development concept is an outgrowth of the planned community concept which has existed for many years. However, only recently has the Planned Unit Development concept …

The Social History Delinquency Scale, Mary A. Byrne Jan 1975

The Social History Delinquency Scale, Mary A. Byrne

Masters Theses

Twenty four delinquents from Coles County, Ill. and twenty four non-delinquents were given the Social History Questionnaire (Best and Ericksen, 1973). The two groups were matched on age, sex, and self-reported social status. An item analysis was performed and the questions which differentiated between the delinquents and the nondelinquents were identified. A delinquency subscale was then developed from the 54 significant questions.

Performance On A Drl Schedule As A Function Of Deprivation Levels, Scott E. Memenga Jan 1975

Performance On A Drl Schedule As A Function Of Deprivation Levels, Scott E. Memenga

Masters Theses

Twelve male albino rats were divided into three groups that were exposed to a DRL-18 second schedule of reinforcement. Each group was maintained at 70%, 80%, and 90% ad lib weight respectively during 28 days of acqusition training. The 70% ad lib weight group demonstrated continued superior performance over the other two groups after the 10th day. The 80% and 90% groups evidenced little difference between each other until the 20th day when the 80% group showed slightly better performance. Performance was based on the mean time-response efficiency ratios [(reinforced responses/ total responses) + (reinforced responses/ total possible reinforced responses)/ …

The Social History Questionnaire In Relation To Suicide Risk Potential, Edward Ward Jan 1975

The Social History Questionnaire In Relation To Suicide Risk Potential, Edward Ward

Masters Theses

The study of suicide is the study of individuals, each of whom can be considered a unique entity. However, in the course of studying suicide case histories, some demographic variables seem to repeat themselves as differentiating potential suicides from persons who will never attempt or commit suicide. The purpose of this paper is to determine which social history variables correlate significantly with subjects who have made a definite suicide attempt or gesture.

The basic question raised by this thesis was: What factors in a person's social history correlate significantly to an increased probability of having made a suicide attempt or …

Computational Models Of Learning., Kenneth Jesse Marse Jan 1975

Computational Models Of Learning., Kenneth Jesse Marse

Masters Theses

"An investigation is made into the use of techniques which would normally be described as learning if encountered in a human being. A literature review of several subject areas including game-playing computer programs, automatic control systems, pattern recognition methods, and biological modeling is performed, with the purpose of extracting and examining those processes which exhibit learning. A general model of the type of learning most widely utilized in these areas is constructed and used to compare and contrast specific models which describe the learning techniques employed. Some specific models which do not exhibit learning as described by the general model …

The Social History Questionnaire As A Predictor Of Therapeutic Outcome, Susan E. Suter Jan 1975

The Social History Questionnaire As A Predictor Of Therapeutic Outcome, Susan E. Suter

Masters Theses

One of the most critical problems encountered in clinical practice concerns the outcome criteria used for predicting therapeutic improvement. At present, there is no single outcome criteria that is universally accepted as evidence of improvement. Representative studies by Lubarsky et al (1971) have emphasized the magnitude of this problem by citing the many patient variables that may effect the outcome of a therapeutic relationship.

The importance of this therapeutic relationship in terms of time and committment on the part of both the therapist and the client, necessitates some objective means for first, the development of an instrument that can measure …

An Experimental Model For Predicting The Commodity Futures Market., C. E. Roy Francis

Masters Theses

"Trading of· commodity futures contracts is one of the purest forms of speculation available today. Inherent is the risk of substantial losses. In an effort to reduce these risks, this research was undertaken.

As a result, a computer program was developed to forecast the prices of commodity future contracts on a daily basis. The program employs the Monte Carlo Technique of simulation and provides expected values for the next trading day.

During the development and testing of the prediction model. various trading techniques were also tested. A trading technique utilizing the difference between the forecasted price and the actual price …

Studies Of Acetylcholinesterase In Synaptosomes, Syed Abbas Rizvi Jan 1975

Studies Of Acetylcholinesterase In Synaptosomes, Syed Abbas Rizvi

Masters Theses

Acetylcholinesterase from rat brain was studied in crude homogenates, partially purified enzyme fractions, and in synaptosomes, to observe modification of the enzyme as a consequence of the modification of the membrane containing it.

Sodium dodecyl sulfate decreases the absorbance due to particles in the homogenate. This change in absorbance was proportional to both the concentration of sodium dodecyl sulfate and the concentration of the particles. Further, sodium dodecyl sulfate caused sulfhydryl groups to appear in the crude homogenate and in partially purified enzyme fractions. Synaptosomal preparations did not give such results. At concentrations of sodium dodecyl sulfate sufficient to cause …

Mmpi: An Attempt To Fake Profiles Of Policemen, Odie M. Swift

Masters Theses

Personality, uses of personality tests, and problems associated with reliability of personality tests are briefly discussed. The Kroger and Turnbull (1975) study dealing with "role-faking" is discussed. The review of the literature discusses the occupation of policeman under three categories: 1) assessment of policemen, 2) MMPI and police assessment, and 3) MMPI studies. The MMPI was given to 18 policemen, 43 male college students, and 40 female college students. The students were assigned to a control condition and an experimental condition. Subjects in the experimental group answered MMPI questions the way they thought policemen would answer the questions. An analysis …

The Relation Between A Teacher Evaluation Checklist And Actual Student Course Gains, Thomas Michael Ozee Jan 1975

The Relation Between A Teacher Evaluation Checklist And Actual Student Course Gains, Thomas Michael Ozee

Masters Theses

The relationship between student gain, as measured by pre and post achievement test measures, and a teacher evaluation checklist, the Student Evaluation of College Teaching Behaviors Instrument (SECTB), was examined in an attempt to validate the eight factors in the SECTB. Sixty seven students in three sections of introductory psychology were measured on both instruments. Results of this study do not support a relationship between student gain and the SECTB. The only significant correlate of gain was a factor measuring nature of presentation (r = -.468) and this correlation was found in only one section. In this section there was …
