Mechanism Of Solvolysis Of 3-Methyl-2-Butyl Brosylates., Luu Le Nghi Jan 1974

Mechanism Of Solvolysis Of 3-Methyl-2-Butyl Brosylates., Luu Le Nghi

Masters Theses

"The brosylates of 3-methyl-2-butanol and it's a-d1-, ß-d1-, B-d3-, and S-d4- analogs have been synthesized. The solvolytic rate data for these compounds were determined. The solvolytic products in 70% (vol.) ethanol-water have been identified by flame ionization gas chromatography using a Carbowax 20M column. The amount of each product was measured by integrating the peak areas from the chromatograms. By analyzing the isotope effect data, the rate determining step is shown to be the formation of the hydrogen bridged ion pair intermediate. By evaluating the GC-mass spectral analysis of the isopentenes, a …

Minorities Are Not Prepared For Accepting Jobs In The Petroleum And Petrochemical Industries., Freddie Lorace Thompson Jan 1974

Minorities Are Not Prepared For Accepting Jobs In The Petroleum And Petrochemical Industries., Freddie Lorace Thompson

Masters Theses

"A survey has been made from nine petroleum and petrochemical companies in the Houston area to get recommendations on the training required for minorities to secure jobs and advance in these industries. Information gathered through this survey consist of the following; (1) recommendations on careers minorities should concentrate their training to secure jobs in these industries; (2) the demand for qualified technical minority graduates far exceeds the supply; (3) a vehicle whereby minorities can be trained and inducted into the petroleum and petrochemical industries; and (4) the companies surveyed are putting forth an honest effort to increase their job mix …

Graph Model Analysis Of Computer Structures, Ömür Taşar Jan 1974

Graph Model Analysis Of Computer Structures, Ömür Taşar

Masters Theses

"Graph theory is applicable to the solving of problems in nearly every field of scientific study. The purpose of this thesis is to consider its applications in representing and analyzing digital computers. Fundamental graph theory definitions, the types and the properties of the directed graphs, the matrix representation, and several reduction techniques are discussed. The blocking gate method for diagnosing computer systems is described and applied to the Scientific Control Corporation (SCC) 650 for its fault-diagnosis.

Microprogramming has been a significant trend in hardware and software designs of computers. Microprogrammed computers are discussed in comparison to conventional computers. A general …

Waste Heat Utilization From A Direct Cycle High Temperature Gas Cooled Nuclear Reactor For District Heating And Air Conditioning, John Joseph Blase Jan 1974

Waste Heat Utilization From A Direct Cycle High Temperature Gas Cooled Nuclear Reactor For District Heating And Air Conditioning, John Joseph Blase

Masters Theses

"An analysis was conducted to determine the economic as well as technical feasibility of waste heat utilization from the proposed direct cycle high temperature gas cooled nuclear reactor, as designed by the General Atomic Company.

The rejected heat from this system is at considerably higher temperatures than those normally encountered in conventional steam-electric Rankine cycles. By taking advantage of these higher rejection temperatures, heat was translated into energy available to a district heating and air conditioning service. The transportation of this energy was considered to be in the form of heated and chilled water.

A refrigeration capacity on the order …

Detection Of Impurities In Zinc Sulfate Electrolytes By Cyclic Voltammetry Techniques., Bruce Alan Lamping Jan 1974

Detection Of Impurities In Zinc Sulfate Electrolytes By Cyclic Voltammetry Techniques., Bruce Alan Lamping

Masters Theses

"A cyclic voltammetric technique has been developed for quantitatively detecting the presence of active chemical species present in zinc sulfate electrolytes. The experimental apparatus consisted of a pyrex "H" cell, an Al cathode encased in a Teflon holder, a carbon anode and a mercurous sulfate reference electrode. Voltammograms were obtained from industrial, purified neutral leach solution (Cominco Ltd., Trail, B.C.) acidified to give a final concentration of 0.77 M Zn++, 1 M H2SO4. The polarization curves were then evaluated and used as a reference standard to compare with results obtained when various organic and …

Magnetostrictive Aftereffects In A Dilute 50fe-50ni-C Alloy, Raj N. Master Jan 1974

Magnetostrictive Aftereffects In A Dilute 50fe-50ni-C Alloy, Raj N. Master

Masters Theses

"Crystallographically equivalent interstitial sites are energetically equivalent when the host crystal is free of any fields. This situation is shown in Fig. Pl from which it may be appreciated that the difference of the free energy of the "crystal" with an interstitial "I" located in "x" and "y" sites, respectively, is equal to zero. This energy equivalence of the various interstitial sites is destroyed when the host crystal is subjected to fields such as strain fields, magnetization fields or a combination of both as may be appreciated from Figs. P2 through P4. In this case, the interstitials will preferentially occupy …

"This thesis has been prepared in the style utilized by the Physical Review A. Pages 1-17 will be presented for publication in that journal. Appendices I, II, III, and IV have been added for purposes normal to thesis writing"-- Abstract, p. ii

Mercury Distribution In A Massive Sulfide Ore Deposit At Balmat, New York, David Ray Jessey Jan 1974

Mercury Distribution In A Massive Sulfide Ore Deposit At Balmat, New York, David Ray Jessey

Masters Theses

"Ore samples consisting of diamond drill core and mine samples, collected from several Balmat ore bodies, were analyzed for their mercury content. The average contents in these ore bodies were found, in ppb, to be: Upper Gleason, 829; Middle and Lower Gleason, 504; Loomis, 546; Fowler, 195; No. 1 Zone, 37; Sylvia Lake, 59; No. 2 Mine, 5. If all of the mercury in these pyrite-sphalerite-galena ores occurs in the sphalerite, then the average sphalerite mercury contents, in ppb, are the following: Upper Gleason, 2490; Middle and Lower Gleason, 2516; Loomis, 2701; Fowler, 1376; No.1 Zone, 384; Sylvia Lake, 408; …

The Effects Of Dental Hygiene Information And Consequation On Plaque Control, Janel R. Warner Dec 1973

The Effects Of Dental Hygiene Information And Consequation On Plaque Control, Janel R. Warner

Masters Theses

The research described in the present paper is based upon a parsimonious analysis of behavior which utilizes principles that have been empirically determined. These principles as discussed by Ullmann and Krasner (1966) and Ulrich, Stachnik, and Mabry (1966) have suggested the wide applicability of behavior modification techniques, not only with animals, but with human subjects in diverse settings. One setting that has previously been left unexplored by proponents of behavior modification, which promises to be an area of growing concern, is that of dental hygiene.

The problem that the present study concerns itself with is educating children in the· correct …

Predicting Success In Instrumental Music, Charles A. Baughman Dec 1973

Predicting Success In Instrumental Music, Charles A. Baughman

Masters Theses

This paper represents a study of the predictability of several types of music tests given to the fourth grade students in East Grand Rapids, Michigan. The tests studied were the "Selmer Music Guidance Survey," a Teacher's Evaluation, and an investigatordeveloped self-concept test. The study showed that the correlation coefficient between the self-concept test and the achievement level of the students at the time of the study was the highest. The correlation coefficient between the "Selmer Music Guidance Survey" and the achievement level was the lowest. There were 595 students surveyed in the study, which was conducted between the years 1968 …
