"With the rapidly increasing population in the United States the adequate disposal of sewage has become one of the major technical problems which the sanitary engineer has to solve. In most areas it is no longer acceptable practice to discharge domestic sewage or industrial waste products directly into streams or lakes because of the resulting pollution of the water, which may later be used for drinking or recreational purposes. Many larger cities have, therefore, adopted some method of sewage treatment which renders such wastes safe and unobjectionable before they are discharged into a lake or stream. It was the purpose of this investigation to undertake a field study in Athens Township, Calhoun County, State of Michigan in order to (1) determine the ecological factors necessary for maple sap production; (2) relate the extent to which the natural resource is being used; and (3) determine economic and social values to the syrup producers. The information was compiled through the sue of interviews, questionnaires, research, and participation in a community project.

Since the first World War, business training on the secondary level has steadily grown in the number of students enrolled and in importance. New inventions, recent legislation involving more record keeping, and rapidly growing industry has brought about the demand for more workers, especially for office workers.

In a survey made in 1954 for the Comstock School Board it was found that most of the graduates from Comstock High School begin working in offices without further training. Although 49 per cent of the graduates seek further education before beginning regular employment, only 30 per cent …

"The phase reversal of an emulsion from a system in which oil droplets are dispersed in a water medium to a system in which water droplets are dispersed in oil is dependent upon the interfacial characteristics of the liquids and the emulsifying agent being used, as well as the volume ratio of the two liquid phases. A preliminary investigation at this institution has indicated a possible relationship between phase reversal and the isoelectric point of gelatin used as the emulsifying agent. "In acoustics the term ultrasonics is used to refer to those frequencies which are above the range of human hearing; that is, frequencies above approximately 20,000 cycles per second. Since the laws of sound which are valid for the audible range are also valid in the ultrasonic range and since the wave length of ultrasonics is much shorter than that of audible sound, ultrasonic has proved very valuable in the calculation of both the velocity and the absorption coefficient of sound in various media. "Fossil Radiolaria are described and figured from the Porters Creek formation (Paleocene) of Ardeola, Stoddard County Missouri. This is the first detailed treatment of fossil radiolarians from the Gulf Coast area. Thirty-one species are described and figured, all believed to be new, belonging to twenty-four genera. Fifteen families are represented, ten referable to the Legion Spumellaria, five to the Legion Nassellaria. Stratigraphic descriptions or the section at Ardeola is presented, and a discussion of laboratory techniques is included"--Abstract, page 3.
